Sympathy strikes and work actions are usually the killers in these situations and they typically strengthen the other unions as well.

Also, TIL the President of SAG-AFTRA is Fran Drescher.

Yep.

BTW the trades are running anti union stories so beware. Now the trades always fellated the studios for access but now many of them are owned by the same companies! For example The Hollywood Reporter is owned by a company that has a stake in Netflix and A24...and own the Chelsea Futbol Team.

And in case anyone is wondering why the writers are mad: https://twitter.com/totalvaligirl/st...89C035m4g&s=19

Edit: and Di$ney is tell all showrunners that even though they could be fined by the WGA they must show upto work and do theor non writing duties.

Started House of the Dragon tonight since my wife was out on the town.

It was pretty decent the first two or three episodes. Definitely going to continue it

Duffers here. Writing does not stop when filming begins. While we’re excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike. We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then -- over and out. #wgastrong

Final season of Stranger Things on hold it would appear. I am sure Netflix can weather that storm with their plethora of top flight content...

I thought I saw an article that said Netflix sorta saw the writing on the wall and stockpiled a bunch of new material to trot out during the strike, while the other streamers had already emptied most their material early.

They've got a nice catalog of foreign stuff. They'll be fine

A catalog that is niche and doesn't have a super strong following. Netflix is (pardon the pun) a House of Cards (and their financials are a fraud) and I think a prolonged strike is going to hurt them easily the most.

(this is where someone trots out their BS "viewership" numbers which can manipulated and with them almost certainly are)

People have to actually want to watch their material for a stockpile to matter. If it was anyone but Netflix that info would have more meaning to me.

Yeah Netflix is really not churning out good stuff anymore

even mediocre stuff on apple is better.

I still say Bad Sisters may be one of the better shows not enough people watched last year. Sharon Horgan is great

Silo.

Good concept, albeit stolen from a 50s SF novel. Bad writing and terrible acting, but I'm hanging on for a bit because of the idea.

Then what are you basing your opinions regarding Netflix upon? I don't pay attention and have no idea either way.

Just saying, my daughter watches Netflix more than Disney+ thanks to all the My Little Pony stuff (and previously cocomelon), my wife watches all the k-dramas (though she uses Viki more for that lately), and I basically alternate between Netflix and Amazon prime depending on which reruns I want to binge in the moment.

Oh, and all that foreign stuff is popular in foreign markets, just saying.

Paramount, peacock, and all the network specific services this side of HBO are more likely to fail than Netflix.

I thought the Diplomat was pretty good. One hell of a cliffhanger at the end. I guess it's good there's going to be a season 2. Although with the writers on strike, who knows. Started The Citadel on Prime.

Started S2 of Perry Mason last night. 3 episodes in and so far so good.

I had forgotten that Della is played by Juliet Rylance. I remember her from the series The Knick which I also thought was very very good. In which, Clive Owen was superb in my mind. Also on HBOMax currently.

Someplace Somewhere - S2 on HBO. Comedy/drama about a woman that returns to her smalltown in Kansas while going through a midlife crisis. It's very well done. Understated, dry, but there are some great characters and even better dialogue. Definitely not for everyone but I really enjoyed S1 and so far S2 has not disappointed.

I also watch this and I agree.
