TV 19 - Simpsons Did It

The racist dog in Poker Face 1.3 was great. The show is incredibly well filmed. I viscerally dislike Lyonne but her acting is excellent and the episodes are as well-written as its spiritual grandparent Columbo.

Something about the way it was shot doesn't look right. Too clean and digital. It resembles a soap opera or newer sitcom...

I have been noticing this a lot lately. (especially with any clip I see of something Di$ney live action related but also elsewhere) It all seems way too pure, there is no edginess or graininess. The worlds don't feel lived in. The digital camera work is so clean and filtered that you can tell it is a full on set. Yes it was always a set, but when the pictures were a little dingier and the sets were more cluttered and darker it felt real. Now it just feels like people in a room. (the Antman and Wasp trailers really looked horrible this way) And I am no snob, I am not some hipster talking about much better things were in the past...or how film is superior because of whatever reason. I just think that the mind needs to be tricked into forgetting you are watching tv in order to suspend disbelief and enjoy things and TV and movies now a day are failing that at an unconscious level.

Best example is Night Court. I tried watching the new one and the sets are all mostly the same but they just look so fake. Everything is so bright and clean, it looks like you are watching a play in person. It is very cool to know that can be done but man is it awful in terms of the show itself. Since Night Court the original run is on Amazon for free I am rewatching it and even though it is low def and a bit wonky it feels like you really are watching these people at work every day. Things are weathered, stuff is broken, there is the feel of dirt and grime everywhere. It is much more enjoyable to look at. (and it is just a better show overall obviously)

My favorite example of this is the six Twilight Zone episodes that were videotaped. They seem completely wrong. It interferes with the way everything is perceived, from set to acting even to pacing.

I'm in Ottawa, all of the American TV channels they get are out of Detroit. Isn't Buffalo closer?

There's a channel called CPAC but I guess it means something different here.

When I was in Fort McMurray they had tv stations out of Spokane.
