Re: Too early for the PWR? Princeton and Brown say no!

Looks like Mankato will win...5-1 midway through the 3rd.

Dartmouth can be swapped with Miami or Michigan to reduce flights/improve attendance (allegedly) in St. Louis.

Wow, BC topped Yale in the RPI rankings. Nice.

I am really sure BC would be very happy with that region. :D

Re: Too early for the PWR? Princeton and Brown say no!

An RPI win tonight will remove Cornell from TUC and might knock Yale out of the top spot (at least temporarily). The Bulldogs will drop to 9 games vs TUC and without that criteria they start losing comparisons. With a loss they can fall as far as 4th.

However, depending on the outcome of other games, Yale could lose tonight and still remain #1 as Clarkson moves up to ~.5003 and becomes a TUC with a win. That would give Yale 10 games vs TUC and flip all those comparisons back.

Simple math, indeed. ;)

Re: Too early for the PWR? Princeton and Brown say no!

If St. Cloud beats Duluth (they are winning 3-2) then Merrimack is a 1 seed.

The Apocalypse is upon us.

Union UNO UMD Denver
Miami UNH Michigan	Notre Dame
AHA Champ	RPI Dartmouth	Wisconsin

SiouxSports will be different because they break head to head ties by RPI, TBRW breaks them by comparison. Therefore, they will have Denver #4 and Merrimack #5. The NCAA has never made it clear how they break ties between two teams when the RPI and comparisons conflict (and it's never happened before).

Dartmouth and RPI are interchangeable in this bracket.

Ties broken by RPI. Not ideal with Wisconsin going east, but with North Dakota and Denver occupying #1's out west, nothing you could really do. If AHA champ is Air Force, send them to St. Louis, Wisconsin to Bridgeport, and Rensselaer to Manchester.

Technically, since the WCHA would get 5 teams in, the committee could keep Wisconsin west for an intra-conference game. That would be a blatant money grab.

For some reason, I thought it was one conference getting 6 teams in before that could occur (or if there was no way to prevent it from happening).

The precedent is to make the switch to avoid such a game even with five teams (2003) but the rule says they can do it.

Re: Too early for the PWR? Princeton and Brown say no!

I still dont see how Wisconsin doesn't end up in Green Bay for attendance purposes, but if they end up a 4, I guess the NCAA would have no choice to send them east if DU and UND hold the 1s.

Re: Too early for the PWR? Princeton and Brown say no!

The TUC line

Code:
St Cloud 0.5081
Cornell 0.5081
RIT 0.5071
Robert Morris 0.5041
AK-Anchorage 0.5032
---
Bemidji State 0.4999
Northern Mich 0.4998
Ohio State 0.4992
Quinnipiac 0.4985
Lake Superior 0.4979
Brown 0.4936
Mich State 0.4930
Niagara 0.4917
Clarkson 0.4915

4 teams from the CCHA and 3 from the ECAC are within shouting distance of becoming TUC. Hockey East doesn't have a single team on either side of the line. Northeastern is almost .015 points away.

Given that I still haven't seen a definitive word on what actually breaks a tie between two teams, for the sake of this argument, I gave Merrimack the #1 seed over Denver and came up with endless possibilities. Focusing strictly on maximizing attendance and of course avoiding intra-conference matchups in the first round, I was able to come up with:

East:

1. Yale (1)
2. Union (7)
3. Notre Dame (12)
4. RIT (16)

Northeast:

1. Boston College (2)
2. Denver (5)
3. New Hampshire (9)
4. Dartmouth (13)

Midwest:

1. Merrimack (4)
2. Minnesota-Duluth (6)
3. Michigan (10)
4. Wisconsin (15)

West:

1. North Dakota (3)
2. Nebraska-Omaha (8)
3. Miami (11)
4. RPI (14)

Re: Too early for the PWR? Princeton and Brown say no!

They'd send Denver out East...

That would mean making BC get on a plane even though they're the #2 overall seed. Not to mention the cost of an extra flight. How much does it cost now for the NCAA for the plane?

Switch Michigan and Notre Dame and I agree. ND can bus to Green Bay.

Re: Too early for the PWR? Princeton and Brown say no!

I have asked the NCAA to clarify the tie-breaking procedures in the event the overall comparison and the RPI don't agree (as with Merrimack and Denver). I won't hold my breath waiting for an answer.

Re: Too early for the PWR? Princeton and Brown say no!

That sound you heard was the NCAA thanking Harvard for keeping Wi$conSin in the tournament.

Re: Too early for the PWR? Princeton and Brown say no!

If BC wins, the Pairwise remains unchanged. If Northeastern wins, NoDak and BC flip flop. If that happens, the NCAA might swap UMD and UNO in my brackets, but no other changes.

Code:
[B]Bridgeport	Manchester	St Louis	Green Bay[/B]
Yale BC North Dakota	Merrimack
Union UMD UNO Denver
Miami UNH Michigan	Notre Dame
AHA Champ	RPI Dartmouth	Wisconsin
