TIGER WOODS hurt in car accident.

Re: TIGER WOODS hurt in car accident.

That and I don't think he ever intended to miss a major because of this. I really don't think he cares that much about what happened, and he sure isn't going to let it get in the way of him trying to break Jack's record.

I agree and why would it be any different.? He's a golfer, its what he does and he does it well.

Re: TIGER WOODS hurt in car accident.

To be clear I wasn't referring to the media at large and I could still see CBS being very careful with their coverage should Tiger merely make the cut and not do anything miraculous over the weekend. Tiger will very well be protected inside the ivy walls of Augusta, but that's not the same as CBS fellating his every move. I very well could be wrong about this thought and CBS may go off the charts with Tiger coverage, but if it were me I'd be very calculated with how much attention I gave to him given the potential backlash.

Some honcho from CBS Sports was quoted on the radio this morning as saying Tiger's return would be a "media circus". Regardless of Augusta's rules, I'm sure distractions will abound, and I'm sure CBS will seek to capitalize on this. Otherwise nobody with a life will watch the **** thing. :D

Exactly, even if the rags like the National Enquirer don't get Media Passes, they'll still be in the Gallery. Hell, they might even prefer just being in with the Gallery, then they don't quite have to abide by the rules for the regular media.

I'm sure it will be, but when I mentioned the possibility of their using a, "tempered approach" I was referring to CBS' coverage and not the media at large. Like I said I may be completely wrong about that but I think it's probably under consideration.

Too bad that rules for the gallery at Augusta are probably more strict than for the media.

I think CBS will try to milk this for all it's worth. Perhaps in a discreet fashion, but they will still try to get non-golfers and Tiger-wannabes to watch. If Tiger's not playing, most people probably have no interest in TV golf. I think it's similar to the ratings swoon the NBA had after Jordan *finally* retired, and part of the game went with him.

Re: TIGER WOODS hurt in car accident.

There are golf fans who watch no matter what. Then there is a segment that only will watch only if Tiger is playing and in contention. Those who don't watch golf at all either way, will not turn in to watch this.

I would wager that a high percentage of non golf fans are sick of this and could care less about where Tiger decides to put his putter.

Well, it'll be Jim Nance, who is the very definition of a "tempered" approach.

If any TMZ or National Enquirer types scalp tickets and get in the gallery, they'll have one chance to get a headline because they'll be tossed out.

Re: TIGER WOODS hurt in car accident.

If you look to purchase tickets online, it 5 figures to get them. There is a reason that going to The Masters is a very exclusive, special thing to do in a lifetime.

not at Augusta, but the next place he plays... of course, that will probably be at Pebble, but :p :p

Re: TIGER WOODS hurt in car accident.

If Tiger is in it on Saturday or Sunday, the ratings will be thru the roof

You can bet your life on that, given that under ordinary circumstances the audience DOUBLES when he's in contention. Slap Shot's point about "tempered" coverage is certainly true. In fact, that tone that CBS affects for coverage of the Masters (something close to the tone they'd use for the second coming) is something the folks at Augusta demand. So there will be no change in that. It's just that in covering this event (particularly if he's in contention) CBS cannot ignore or downplay Woods. His presence and his perforance will drive much of the coverage because that's what millions of people will be tuning in to see and that's what the sponsors will demand. So the network will somehow try to balance these potentially conflicting realities. If he's in contention you can bet it'll be like a radio format: all Tiger all the time.

So the same as it was before **** hit the fan?

'Fraid so. What's CBS supposed to do, ignore the millions who are watching just to see him (if he in the hunt)? I'd say the coverage would be indistinguishable from previous Masters where he'd contended.

Re: TIGER WOODS hurt in car accident.

Something tells me she had an inkling/hard evidence before the incident in the driveway, but something happened that night that was the icing on the cake. Otherwise there'd be no reason to seek a muzzle.

he would be hurt just by the stupid questions.

"elin, did you have any idea that tiger was doing the things that have been throw about? allegedly dating strippers? allegedly having relations in a church parking lot with hostesses from ihop?"

"oh barbara, i had no idea. i was home with the kids - never thinking the man who told me he'd love me and be faithful to me until death would turn his back on our family like that...."
