The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

exactly what school is that? us national university??

Players from the ACHA schools that will be representing the US at the World University Games in Turkey at the end of January.

The team beat D=III Castleton State 5-4 in OT on Tuesday, then lost 3-2 to D-II St. Michael's on Wednesday.

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

Well, at least muse is back down to earth. Allowing 5 goals to a now 3-13 Colgate team. He was scaring me for a while....he can always be lethal (2 national titles), but this seems more like his regular season self. Funny how he always gets bailed out by his offense. That kid never would have won any championships if he were given an even average offense. He's lucky he plays for Jerry York, who can recruit basically anyone he wants.

Midge

Why bother to berate a goalie who has won the same number of national championships in the last three years than our team has won games this season. We suck, we own it, and Muse owns us when we face him, particularly if it's a big game.

I know we suck. Not denying that. Was just pointing out how he's the complete opposite of roberto luongo. Usually nothing special in the regular season (but still gets wins cause BC has an incredible offense) and then becomes godlike in post season play. While Luongo, on the otherhand, always has great regular seasons and then he flounders in the playoffs. This is simply an analogy. In no way am I putting Muse in the same category as Luongo ;)

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

Terrible game by the Cats, no surprise there I guess. Looked good through the first and early into the second. Right up until they gave up the first goal and then failed on the 5 min major. I hate to sound like a broken record, but the reffing was atrocious again. It's bizarre watching so many calls go the other way. How they got an interference call against Lawson is beyond me. That said, the Cats really looked like they were just going through the motions late in the game. A 2-1 game and there was no intensity, no desire, no nothing. they get a 'D' for effort on this one.

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

yeah, the cats looked awful from the 5 min PP on

Agree that was not a good call on lawson for the interference. That looked a legit hit to me. but you can't take another penatly nine seconds later and think you are going to have a chance to win the game

they SUCK. It's incredible how bad they are

Stalberg was coasting around the ice all night, Leanard was one of the only guys who looked like he was trying

They get a revamped locker room for Christmas and this is their thanks to their supporters. not impressed......

I hope this does not hurt recruiting too badly because I still think they are on the right path, just not going to achieve to their potential this year....

They were on the verge of getting very top recruits the last couple of years and competiting with BU/BC/Michigan/UNH for those kids. This season worries me about that drying up.....

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

The lack of intensity in the 3rd was something. Down by a goal and it looked like they dropped their shoulders and said, "oh well we lost." No juice.

Very surprised by Snedden's post game comments.

“For the most part, I thought we did some really nice things tonight and 5-on-4 I thought we did a really nice job,” said UVM coach Kevin Sneddon after the Catamounts plunged to 2-10-4. “You can’t give teams two 5-on-3s for two minutes full almost.

You also can not roll over and play dead. Brett Leonard seems to be the only guy who really wants to win. McCarthy, Brickley, Stalberg ... Not so much. Come on Brickley SHOW US SOMETHING.

For the youngest kid on the team Bruneteau looks better than most.

Agree on alot. Stahlberg gets a point by fanning on a shot. The Cal on Lawson was brutal as was the high stick on McCarthy eight seconds later. He outworked the Guy cleared the zone and gets the phantom high stick. Awful.

The power play problem is simple too many guys are just playing for themselves. Shooting from areas that have no chance of creating, not moving the Puck. Watching OSU they moved the Puck on their PP, quick and crisp. The line centered by Stahlberg loves the try to carry and do too much on offense with limited defensive effort.

McCarthy and Brickley will be good together you can see that. Probably better served if White centers them.

Nilsoon Roos with Leonard played hard.

Bottom line zero leadership or captains passion.

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

Cat's manage to squeek out the win against lowly Harvard. A win is a win at this point for the Cats. Intensity looked better although I still thought the offense looked terrible, there is no cycling at all, it's skate it in, throw a pass cross ice and watch the D pick it up and carry it back out. They really need to work on sustaining some pressure. Miller had a nice goal there, that was a great shot and it was nice to see Medvec generate some offense as well. Brickley and Lenz seem to really be gritty players, I do have to say however they seem to look for the hit first and the puck second. They both had good offensive numbers in the USHL, they need to turn a mind towards offense.
Was also nice to see Madore have a real solid night in net. He looked great with some real nice saves, much improved from the SLU and DC games.

I guess it's a new year, all we can do is hope that it's also a new season for the Cats and they leave a dismal 2010 behind.

BU's on a bit of a skid, losing to Brown and RPI before the tie with Notre Dame and are 1-4-1 in their last 6. Probably as good as a time as any to play them. Hopefully UVM can hustle, move their legs and play strong defense.

Funny how he always gets bailed out by his offense. That kid never would have won any championships if he were given an even average offense.
Goals allowed by Muse in 4 FF games:1,1,1,0......... Total 3, GAA 0.75......that's really getting bailed out by your offense

Have you seen Muse's stats in the NCAA Frozen Four? Bailed out by the offense? Jeesh.

I was referring to his regular season performances. Read my other post and you'll see the analogy I had with him and Luongo

Come on Guys it's a new year. How about we all resolve to actually read the other posters post. I here by I resolve to put forth a good faith effort to really read and understand the BC poster's post and to when in doubt of the actual mean offer up a genuine question for clarification BEFORE I make a snide remark, or at least at the same time.

Exactly! Thank you. I'll even copy and paste it again for the two who clearly missed it: " I know we suck. Not denying that. Was just pointing out how he's the complete opposite of roberto luongo. I liked the Sunday night effort better overall than Saturday. Fewer penalties and no bad calls except that no goal call on UVM's 4th goal. That is BS. Either call the goalie interference at the time and no goal but don't go to a replay and say yeah it should have been goalie interference. that is ridiculous, it was a nice play by VT though.

Madore was very good.

However, I don't think Harvard is very good so that was not much of a test. They need every point in HE that they can get. They better BRING it on Sunday night versus BU. Crappy game time for everyone but hopefully it hurts BU the most....

Did you see Bruneteau on Saturday night? During the 5min power play, he had the puck longest, and maybe took only one shot. He has speed, and started to throw his weight around, but needs to pull the trigger from the point.

Plain and Simple: The team just needs to put more pucks on net through traffic. Alluding to what you said, we often just dont pull the trigger when there's a wide open shooting lane or even bodies in front. We don't really have any truly gifted goal scorers, so any shot's a good shot.

The problem with this team is it seems there is never someone in front of the goalie. Watch other teams and that does not seem to be the case. Vermont players seem to be afraid to screen the goalie. They really miss Pacan. Last season he was brave enough to stand in front of blasts from Lawson and Medvec. This year....no one.

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

Anybody know if this game will be televised on any of the national or regional channels such as ESPNU or NESN or Comcast SportsNet. Sometimes these odd time games get picked up. Does the UVM website provide this type of info? I doubt it is on with college bouncy ball in full swing.....
