The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

Agreed. but part of my point is I would rather have a medium to small sized barn that is almost always full - than a big barn that has empty seats. I have been to several post season games now (NCAA and HE) where the rink in half to 3/4th full and it is depresssing as a fan of the game. Which gets into the whole conversation regarding where the first round of the NCAA's ought to be played. I am starting to feel like top 8 teams should get home ice for best of 3. You would get full barns - If not during spring break. -- but alas it will probably never happen. Went to Albany NY - last year for first round.. it was awful.

For the record ticket sales at the whit averaged nearly 95%. It's not a UNH thing. Anyways this season is over...so is this thread

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

It would barely be over capcity... yes the gutt is small but let's not get carried away. It's a poor showing, and by and large due to timing. UNH averaged over 6000/game. So 3332 is disappointing to say the least, spring break or not.
NU @ BU
Thurs: 3,039 | Fri: 3,676 | Sun: 3,884

UMass @ BC
Fri: 2,868 | Sat: 3,341

Maine @ Merrimack
Fri: 2,489* | Sat: 2,489*

Vermont @ UNH
Fri: 2,854 | Sat: 3,332

* = Volpe has a capacity of 2,489

Looks about par for the course to me.
Is UNH expected to win against MC?
Merrimack won the regular season series 2-1-0, it's #2 vs. #4, and with the year the Warriors are having I don't think it would be a particularly big upset.

p.s. congrats to Tim Kelley.

Was there ever an official announcement re Leonard? Is he coming back for sure?

I talked with his dad at the saturday game at UNH and he said he was coming back next year. I'm happy for him and can't wait for the UNH/UVM games next year. Cheers:)

Never said it was a UNH thing... What I did say was - it was too bad HE quaters always take place during spring break. (no good for all of Hockey East) .. good news about Leonard. Love his work ethic.

NU @ BU 57% compared to 86% season avg difference = -29
UMA @BC 46% compared to 86% season avg difference = -40
ME @ MC 100% compared to 91% season avg difference = +9
UVM @ UNH 48% compared to 94% season avg difference = -46

Thats dismal. HE needs to adjust the schedule so that the students are around for the QF games.

Small upset or not it would still be an upset. Especially when you factor in playoff experience...

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

I agree with your point, but keep in mind that the 3,332 in attendance on Saturday would have nearly filled the Gutt (capacity: 4,007)

We could fill 5000 without the students if we had homeice, hell we got 3500+ to play meaningless games vs UML and the students were gone.

If UNH was say 1 hour closer to Vermont you wouldnt have had so many seat empty.

You could fit 5,000 in to a 4,007 seat arena? If you say so...

I think if this was at all practical it'd have been done at some point in the past 25 years.

Schools don't schedule their breaks at the same time. A delay of even just 1-2 weeks in having the league playoffs might mean avoiding one school's break but colliding with another; so then you'd have a delay and still have some conflicts.

Delaying the HE playoffs might mean delaying the NCAA tournament as well.

It'd actually be much easier for schools to schedule their breaks around the HE playoffs. If you're a Hockey East school, you expect to participate in the tournament regularly, and you want your students around for the playoffs, why not schedule spring break in the weeks before the quarterfinals, or after the championship?

I can understand why, for instance, Merrimack didn't make such a change at the start of this academic year, but UNH?

You would figure someone with the word "Cloud" in his name would know the meaning of the word "Could" which has the same 5 letters

We COULD fill does not mean we have the seats and dont fill them it means if we had a bigger rink we COULD have filled it.

I would actually suggest moving it up as opposed to delaying it. Boston schools have enough people to make up for the loss of students, but schools like ME, UNH, UVM for example are rural in comparison, and the loss of students is more significant. That said, Cat Lover is absolutely correct, the Gutt would be sold out regardless, but it's sad to see those figures.
