The Ultimate CCHA Championship: Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan

Re: The Ultimate CCHA Championship: Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan

Seems obvious but all fanbases, in particular large ones, are going to have some bad apples, making all the good fans look bad. This is obviously more precedent in Football fueled by alcohol. I never seek out opposing fans to talk trash but will play defense against an attack if I feel it's warranted. I enjoy this board and its civility. Of course I haven't spent much time in Gopher threads, they seem to have a "rep" with opposing WCHA fans :)

Is umichhockeyrulz still around?

One last note on fans, things changed alot down here after the Texas game in 2005. People knew some change was needed and since then I don't think visiting fans have ever been treated so well. I like to peruse visiting teams msg boards after the game so see their reviews on visiting, and its generally positive, but there's always going to be a drunk idiot somewhere.

Anyway, can't wait for tomorrow for day 1 of the CCHA swansong.

I haven't seen that name in awhile, hopefully it remains that way.

As for OSU's rink, it's not that they need their own. Wisconsin makes the Kohl Center work. It's that scheduling needs to be worked out so you aren't hosting high school b-ball or wrestling, or whatever it ends up being during potential home playoff games. Though I guess that will not be a concern with B1G tournament format.

Back on to the topic of this weekend, is it hockey time yet?

What's going on with the "CCHA Celebrate the Legacy VIP Party" or whatever it is? The only places I see it mentioned is from the super fan contest. Somewhere earlier in this thread someone said it's moving from Cobo Hall to the Olympia Room?
Does that mean the Olympia Room is not going to be open to the public? I'm so used to going down there between games, and with Michigan bouncy ball playing at 12:15, I was thinking it would be nice to skip the 1st period of the OSU vs ND game to watch hoops in the Olympia Room, then I'd already be at the Joe to catch as much of the 1st game as I can.

Also, why aren't we having a party at the Ren Cen? If the league is selling off a bunch of assets, can't that pay for the party? What else are they going to do with any money that's earned? Or is the league in debt?

I'm going to miss the convenience of the conference championships being just 40 miles from my house each year (and will have to settle for every other year).

I'd guess the Olympia Club will still be open during the games. They'll probably close it off for the "Legacy Party" near the end of the late game on Saturday. I believe you can get tickets to the party for $20 a head, which gets you appetizers. Cash bar. Not worth it, especially without the atmosphere of the old RenCen parties.

Regardless, they've done a pathetic job advertising the party. I don't even see a reference to it on the website anymore. Apparently they don't actually want anyone celebrating the legacy with them. They should have gone out with a bang with a top shelf open bar at RenCen!

I'll probably be on TV Saturday. Got a Thanks for the Memories CCHA, '81 -'13 sign.

With the block M for the m in "memories".

Downtown is downtown. Doesn't change the fact that it's a patch of civilized land in a crater of despair. This is coming from someone who grew up IN the pit of despair.

Wonderful city.

Unfortunately you can take similar pictures in similar sized big cities. Detroit is the poster child for them.

I can also see the same decay in small Michigan towns like Kalkaska or even in the deserted ghost towns in the U.P.

It's sad but none of us, no matter how we beat our chests about some place else being better- is not far from this type of ruin.

Re: The Ultimate CCHA Championship: Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan

I'd say the women's rink is a better environment. It's more enclosed and it creates more of a home ice advantage.

Showed in the playoffs.

Have you ever been to the old rink? When I lived in C-bus 40 years ago, my mite team played at the old rink. It's barely bigger than the rink in Inkster. Great spot for drop in play or community practice, but it's not much for college hockey. As mentioned in the Michigan thread, I did meet Woddy Hayes at an OSU game in the 70's. But even then, I was a Michigan fan.

Although, if you think we should relocate back to the old Coluseum, well...

Re: The Ultimate CCHA Championship: Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan

The CCHA is so cheap in its waning hours that the league refs don't even get comped tickets to the games this weekend as they have been before. I know, I know...who cares about refs...

I gotta say, I'm disappointed in what little (i.e. nothing) is being done to "Celebrate the legacy."

Well that's understandable. With the Joe selling out, they wouldn't want to turn away paying fans just to give the refs some free seats.

Weinberg Coliseum was before my time. I would have loved to have visited the old barn once. Should have left it up in it's rink form and make it a Hockey museum.

Hockey day.

OSU vs ND in the morning game
UM vs Miami for the afternoon.

Lots of upsets yesterday, will that continue today?

I think if OSU and um win, western is out regardless.

Re: The Ultimate CCHA Championship: Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan

Whats also sad is forcing the top seed to play the late game too

Having been in the same position quite a few times over the last 23 years, I certainly don't feel sorry for you.

Remember, we are here a lot. While its your first senior class to be here all 4 years, this is our 21st straight senior class to come to the Joe all 4 years. :)

Re: The Ultimate CCHA Championship: Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan

Down to 2.

Which will win- the offense that Michigan is playing or the defense that Notre Dame is playing? Certainly will come down to that.
