The Ultimate CCHA Championship: Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan

Re: The Ultimate CCHA Championship: Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan

I hope to be there to see who gets conference honors. Czarnik has very good skills and will be a force to reckon with for Miami the next couple of years. I confess I don't know a lot about Lee for Notre Dame. Hjelle who was in Heeter's shadow before this season has blossomed into an unbelieveable goalie for us. I feel his stats are misleading because if it weren't for the MANY defensive mistakes by his teammates during the course of the season leaving him vulnerable to many great scoring opprotunities I think his stats would be the best in all college hockey as you can't expect your goalie to carry your entire team. I think he is much better than Heeter was also because he's a down to earth kid, Heeter was a moody Prima Donna.

Any CCHA fan (from any team) that can get to this should. The end of an era with the CCHA disbanding. It should be a great tournament.

I bought my tickets 2 months ago and wouldn't trade them for the world... even if Western wont be there I take it upon myself to represent the Lunatics at the last CCHA tourney. We may not have a storied, winning record in the conference but its got us to where we are now and should be an excellent time.

Go Miami!

Re: The Ultimate CCHA Championship: Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan

Should, sure. Will? I doubt that. And it's not a fan vs fan thing. I know we (UM) were part of the straw that broke the camel's back, but I certainly saw a lot of indifference toward the confernce from the CCHA HQ. Knowing that a lot of the non B1G schools correctly precieve a bias toward UM and MSU, the support for the conference is already darned thin outside of their own teams. So, with that- I would not be surprised to see almost no fans willing to put the effort in to support a conference that didn't really support iteslf.

IMHO.

I can't blame the CCHA at all about their treatment to U-M and MSU, although that shouldn't a reason to neglect the other teams. That was why UNO left. Outside of LSSU in the late 80's-mid 90's, who else carried the CCHA? OSU went to the FF with Michigan in 1998 and hasn't even been to the CCHA FF since 2004 when they won it, or maybe the next season. It wasn't until the last six or seven years that Miami has put it together consistently. Notre Dame in the last five seasons since JJ took over. Ferris put together two stellar seasons, culminating in last season's run- although they never made it to Detroit. WMU has had solid seasons the last three years, but outside of a tourney championship hasn't done anything nationally. Alaska went to the Joe a couple of times and made the NCAA tourney. BG hasn't been a national player since the mid 80's. NMU never won a thing in the CCHA and qualified for the NCAA's a few times. The CCHA catered to their $$ making teams and basically didn't give two craps the past twelve months.

I think one of the funniest things I saw at the CCHA finals was when the CCHA party had free beer the guy from Northern who wore the jersey with UNO on the nameplate was out on the dance floor totally drunk. He had an open beer in each hand falling against people spilling his beer everywhere and we saw him the next morning in the Renaissance Center's food court. My son said to him "You sure were having a good time last night!" The fellow replied " Really? Would you mind telling me some of it cause I really don't remember much." Then he said "By the way, do any of you know how I got this black eye?" Too funny!

Just one example of the awesomeness that was the open-bar CCHA party at the RenCen. I understand that they probably wanted to tone it down a bit and cut the financial losses from the event, but they could have at least changed it to a subsidized cash bar to avoid driving everyone away. I guess even the cash bar is better than not having it at all, though. Fan experience fail. We (fans) should just make our own party! RenCen won't care if we all show up with cases/bottles in the gallery area, right?

Personally I think the Canadians ruined it. Once word got out across the river about free beer there was no stopping them! LOL!

I don't blame them either, but I aslo don't blame people for not supporting the CCHA. That's all.

Re: The Ultimate CCHA Championship: Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan

Given how I already feel about Michigan, my head may explode next year. :D

Well, we don't like you, either... :)

But forgive us in advance for not considing you a rival. Apparently schools hate it when we don't and not named MSU. ;)

At least your state doesn't share a border with them!

Well, I'm ok with the settlement that you got Toledo and we got the UP. Still a lot of copper up there.

That's actually not true. Granted, there's no land border. But there is a MN/MI border in Lake Superior.

Along with the UP came Isle Royale. To the best of my knowledge there was never a battle royal over Isle Royale. But that National Park, though just off the Minnesota shore, is technically in Michigan.

You are still here!!! Man, it's sure good to see a post from you! I was actually getting worried.

By land, Wisconsin does a good job keeping the UP and Minny from starting a fight. The cheese calms things down, apparently.

To the weekend- I'm far to "nervous" to make any claims or analyisis. Yea, we are playing good- really good at times, but still- Western isnt' Miami. And even though we swept OSU in Columbus, that was a month ago, and playoff hockey is different. Notre Dame- Jeff Jackson. Him and Ron Mason gave us fits. But the potential- man.

And I get to lean back on the 24 championship streak that we end with this weekend. Not bad. Congratulations to MSU for having the most CCHA championships of all time- it will stay that way. But I'm pretty impressed with how UM has been a solid part of the CCHA for more than the second half of it's existance.

Now, you guys get a chance to round out history. I certainly hope it does not happen, and hope we get #10, though. Hope. Big word for so few letters.

I rather have Toledo personally. It's like a nicer, cleaner and safer version of Detroit. Mudhen games anyone?

The UP is an outsider. They wanted to become their own state at one time, and I think we should have let them.

So you have no idea how much money the UP has brought into the state, then. Check it out, we got the far better deal. By probably trillions of dollars. And there is a lot more up there to be had, if we need it.

And it also seems that you've not been downtown anytime recently. It's pretty nice. A lot more to do that in Toledo.

But...but, ripping on Detroit without ever having set foot outside the walkway from Cobo to JLA is a favorite hobby of most Michiganders!

Or by getting on the People Mover in Greektown, and back off again at Joe Louis....

Being that you are here, I assume you are going to the games? Or at least just the Saturday game? :) I still think we are going to sit it out again... maybe.

Downtown is downtown. Doesn't change the fact that it's a patch of civilized land in a crater of despair. This is coming from someone who grew up IN the pit of despair.

I think the one on the right has some potential ;-)

I'll probably end up going both nights. All my friends up here are Michigan grads...if we lose, figure I may as well tag along for the last game.
