The Ultimate CCHA Championship: Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan

Re: The Ultimate CCHA Championship: Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan

That's the positive attitude we like!

Good to see you turn your back on your home like that. Makes me really hopeful there will be a good future.....

Not my fault there were a bunch of corrupt a-holes running that city. That is nothing but their fault. Years and years of failed leadership led to the rotting after the riots.

Who gives a crap about fault anymore? Get over it. That's not going to get us anywhere.

Re: The Ultimate CCHA Championship: Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan

Yeah, it's the one at the end of a penalty.

First, the penalty box door opens. Then, the player returns to the ice and the teams are back at full strength. Then comes the whistle.

Listen for it in the second or third period of any men's hockey game. It comes from assistant coach Brent Brekke, who's been signaling the end of penalties since he was an assistant with the Chicago Freeze of the NAHL.

"I did that with the junior team because we'd have guys not being aware when they're on the ice when the power play or penalty kill is ending," he said.

Although Brekke might be most noticeable for his even-strength alert sound, he is a big contributor behind the scenes to the Red's on-ice success.

I rather have Toledo personally. It's like a nicer, cleaner and safer version of Detroit. Mudhen games anyone?

The UP is an outsider. They wanted to become their own state at one time, and I think we should have let them.
Blasphemy. I love the UP. Yoopers on the other hand.... Well, one can learn to love them too.

Re: The Ultimate CCHA Championship: Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan

You are still here!!! Man, it's sure good to see a post from you! I was actually getting worried.
Appreciate the sentiment; and apologies for any distress caused.:o I actually have been posting on things OSU, particularly on the Women's Board. Admittedly I've been posting less on CCHA topics...

Also, for most of the season I've been a little discouraged about my personal prospects for going to Pittsburgh. (non-hockey issues) For that and other reasons, I didn't do the first thing about starting a Posters' Game effort, and apparently neither did anyone else. For a little more detail on that, see the "Going to Pittsburgh" thread in the Cafe.

On the upside, due to very recent developments, it now looks like I'll be able to make it to the Steel City for the full tournament after all. Maybe we can connect at the FF.

But first things first. Although I'll be watching from afar, it's time to focus on the Joe. Go Bucks!

Hope. Big word for so few letters.
Agreed, and I believe it applies to all 4 teams this weekend.

Well, I'm ok with the settlement that you got Toledo and we got the UP. Still a lot of copper up there.
Hard to believe our respective militias nearly fought over Toledo in the 1800's and now we couldn't give it away to you. LOL!
Actually I LOVE Detroit, it's just coincidence that I'm armed when walkling through downtown. ;)

Absolutely! Missed you in Tampa, and hope you can make the extra trip in Philly.

Nearly? Shots were fires (allegedly in the air) and a 4 months later, someone ended up being stabbed with a pen knife! He was ok....

It's interesting... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toledo_War

Although, at the time, Michigan was still a territory until a year and a half after "hostilities."

Thinking about it- I suspect there has been more violence over the football game.

Hockeybuck seems like the coolest and most civil ohio fan ever. And that is saying something.

I imagine the ohio hockey fans are more civil than the football ones are. Because, let's be honest, hockey isn't exactly priority down there and there is less of a t-shirt fan attraction.

I'm actually rooting for a B1G Final. Would be funny and a gut punch to everyone hating and whining about the B1G.

Thank you! Although I will make the occasional OSU-Michigan joke I have always treated Michigan fans respectfully when they're in our house and have a deep respect for your coach and program. It's a lack of class to act towards your rivals with obsenities like you're drunk at a frat party.
Also my grandmother was a Michigan Graduate - Class of 1918! So you see there is some Maize & Blue in my veins.

I find that many of the posters here are credits to their fanbase. Sure, we all have a few trolls among our posters, but having met many of the people that post here, most are good people (even some of the trolls).

Then again, maybe I'm just insane. Afterall, I did go to Bemidji to see a UAH @ Bemidji game with a bunch of people I met on a hockey message board, none of whom had a rooting interest in either team.

I'll be the first to admit sometimes in the past I have gotten into some exchanges with people then were more involved than it should be the it's not the norm and I do try to avoid it. And by the way MUnRPI I LIKE Enrico and have a nice photo of us posing together and Miami likes me, or at least the tuition I paid on my son's behalf, lol.
But hey, on to Detroit where I hope we all have a good time!

He's not the only one from down south who is great fan- when I was surprised to see pgb-ohio- I am genuinely happy to see that he's still here. We met the first time at the Posters Game in St. Louis, and he's one of main drivers for that game.

What we really miss with the loss of the party is a very easy way to meet other posters. Lots of Northern, Miami, Notre Dame, and even a few UM posters I've not met at Yost. Much easier there than as the Joe. Oh, well.

For me, that meeting also meant a very strong contingent of Miami, OSU, and MSU fans at the posters game we had at Yost (I organized). We all had a great time as we crawled off the ice from exhaustion.

I would imagine there will be good opprotunity to mix & mingle in the bar / lounge area at the Ren Center, no matter what colors we wear we all love hockey and have that in common. I think I have a lot on common even more so with the attending teams as Paul Pooley, one of OSU's best players ever is assistant coach for ND, my dad's half of the family are all Michiganders and my son is a Miami alum and need I say about Ohio State?

PGB is a great guy. We have some differences in perspective once in awhile like how big OSU should build a hockey only arena but he always is very analytical and insightful and has more experience with college hockey and the CCHA than most people know. A true ambassador for the sport no matter whose team it is.

You guys gotta get on that. If ohio wants to be a big time program, they need to show some commitment. Kind of bad when the women's team has their own rink when the men don't.
