The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

Pleasant surprise after the debacle last weekend.
Good to see the effort paying off!

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

The Friars did a great job of earning points this weekend. My only concern is that the Friars seem to struggle with leads in the third period. It seems as though they still need to learn how to put teams away. I know that this will be corrected in time as they gain more confidence, experience and talent.
I must say that I love the fact that the Friars are good enough to have this as a problem.

Coach Leaman is doing a great job with these guys and the Friars are showing a great deal of effort. They are even winning games in February which is weird for fans of Friar hockey. ;)

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

Hockeyman needs to confirm, but I think this year's team has won more games in February than the last 2-3 years combined. While rebuilding takes time, you always hope to see upward movement. Kudos to Nate and the team.

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

Where do you think Beaudry would stand if he played the entire freshman year.......he is the one thing Tim can call his and is a great find for the program, I hope Nate has another super goal keeper in waiting

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

Shhh! Don't tell anyone but Mike Logan does a great job. Fans of Friar hockey already know it but it will soon become evident to a wider range of hockey fans as PC's program continues on the road to recovery.
Once the programs get to where it's going we are going to be standing in lines saying, "remember when no one came to the games?".
That's gonna be awesome. :)

BTW Derek Army needs to be commended for sticking it out here at PC. I used to hate his punky style of play. He was a cheap shot artist and punky. He's cut that totally out of his game and has done a great job for the Friars. He's developed into a very solid player and I'm glad to see him enjoying success. It couldn't have been easy for him over the past year and he's carried himself with a great deal of class and he should be commended for how he's represented himself, family and the team.

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

Nate Leaman was interviewed last night on USCHO. "The goal all year has been to earn home ice in the quarter-finals", he said.

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

I'm hoping to make it to the Northeastern game tomorrow. I'm going to be in boston at a conference Friday/Saturday. Unfortunately, I do not think the hardhat from my student days will be making the trip. Can't afford to pay the baggage overage fee!

Go Friars

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

Anyone know of any good bars close to the rink? I usually don't have time before the games at matthews, but I'm hoping to get there early tonight.

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

1 - 1 Tie but 14 shots on goal is not getting it done, we have to step it up a bit even if the shots are from the blue line and they look for rebounds.....good D but we need more.....our only goal came 28 seconds into the game so we had 13 shots after that

23 shots last i saw

On the webcast from NE it listed 14 going into the OT raised it on the score sheet to 18 with 4 more in the OT......team looked good but the shots were not there

The Friars earned a point on the night but suffered a couple of key losses. Tim Schaller scored his 14th goal of the season 29 seconds into the game, but he was injured late in the first period and did not return. Defenseman Mark Adams suffered a concussion in the third period. Both players are out of tomorrow night's rematch as they join Danny New who did not play due to an injury sustained this week in practice.

The tie extends the Friars unbeaten streak to three, which is their longest streak in the month of February since they closed out the 2006-07 season with three straight wins. The Friars remain in 6th place with 22 points, which is two ahead of UNH, five ahead of Northeastern and six ahead of Umass. A PC win tomorrow night coupled with a Umass loss at Maine would clinch a playoff spot for the Friars.

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

This will be a tough one with those players out but it will test the reserves and sometimes they step up and do more than anticipated, lets hope that is the case here......Northeasterns webcast was excellent last nite I accessed it through their directory.......go Friars

You are right, with these injuries some players that maybe don't see a lot of time will have to step up - namely on D with New and Adams out. Speaking of webcast's the "most excellent" way to listen (and watch when games are aired) is to listen to Mike Logan on the Friars feed. It's super cheap and Mike is the best (and has the awards to prove it.)

Re: The rebirth of Providence College Hockey

Another tie tonight, 2-2. Big point to pick up. Keeps them ahead of UNH by 1 point for 6th place and UMASS/NU remain 5 back of the Friars. PC has a game in hand on UNH. Going to be a mad scramble last two weekends. Can Friars get a home win against BC Friday? I hope there will be a big home crowd for this one.
