The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways.
Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar.
We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.
The Friars make it back-to-back ties at Matthews Arena. Shane Luke (#5) and Kevin Hart scored the goals as the Friars poured a season high 49 shots on net. Hart's goal came on the power play (25th PP goal of the year for the team) and came from beyond the blue line. The Friars were without Tim Schaller, Danny New and Mark Adams due to injury.
The Friars remain in 6th place one point ahead of UNH and five points ahead of both Northeastern and Umass. PC starts a home and home with BC Friday night at Schneider. You can watch that game on cox sports and on the web at www.coxsportsonline.com. Saturday's afternoon game at BC starts at 3:30 and is on NESN.
Mike, what's the news on Schaller, Adams and New, will any of them be back for Friday? I saw Schaller with his family 3rd period of Friday game, he looked like he was feeling OK. Guessing by the rules they had to hold him out last night.
BTW Friars are only 3 back of Merrimack for 5th, although not sure they would want to be in 5th if UMaine ends up 4th. Going up to Orno is not much fun for a playoff. Although remote, it is not out of reach to gain home ice either.
According to Chris Heisenberg, there may have been some academic issues that warranted not wanting to take the risk, particularly for his talent level. (In other words, why take the chance on someone who may not pan out as a good Hockey East player...) He's already 21, so there may not be much upside in him.
Todays PROJO has Schaller and Adams out for both games this weekend. Also stated New should return tonight. This is a bad weekend to lose you top center and goal scorer.
A loss like tonite is not that bad we played the NR 2 team in the country even 5-5 but could not handle them shorthanded.....PC has come a long way in a very short period and this weekend we are short 2 key players so I for one am very impressed with this club......lets get them in their barn and stay out of the box
Very impressive effort by PC tonight as i thought they played even with the Eagles. Lack of scoring depth was very evident tonight as PC is so top heavy it hurts. Thats how much their top line center means to this team. I really hope he is able to rejoin this team for next weekend. Go Friars!!!!
I would say there is hope in Providence again. This team has played competitively with some of the top teams in the country this year knocking off a couple along the way. Compared to the despair of the last five years, you can see improvement throughout the year. They were in the game all the way last night. Let's hope for a win today.
Without Schaller, the team really struggles to score. Hope they can come away with a point (or two) this afternoon.
BTW, Friars have just received another commitment for next year - and the name should ring a bell. Kevin Rooney is the nephew of ex-Friar Steve Rooney (which makes him the cousin of current Friar Chris.) He plays center at the Berkshire School where he the Captain and leading scorer at 12-12-24 in 27 games. He's a lot bigger then his cousin Chris at 6'2" 195. He is known as a very fast skater who plays both ends of the ice.
Also, have received a commitment from a top D man in the USHL - John Gilmour from Cedar Rapids. He most likely will arrive on campus in 2013.
Gotta respect what Nate Leaman has done for the team in such a short period of time. They have come a long way in such a short period of time I can't wait for the time when PC is battling with BC for Hockey East titles again which looks like it will be sooner rather than later.
Good luck today. Games vs. PC are always hard fought battles.
Look for Tommy Cross to have a bullseye on his back today. That was a pretty good slash he put to the back of Demo's leg near the end of the game last night. As a fan i just hope they dont take penalties trying to retaliate. Wait for your oppurtunity and do it within the rules, but take a run at him every time possible.
