The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

.028% is very significant

Nichols SOS is 0.467, only .033% off of Umass-Boston, would you say they played about equal schedules? I don't think so.

I wouldn't say they played about equal schedules, no. But UMass did play a lot of bad teams this year, they beat Skidmore 11-1! Just to lose 5-2 in the next round. Maybe SOS just needs to be at a certain number to be considered NCAA eligible, and after that it's just a wash? I don't have the answer, but just pointing out that Plattsburgh having a .028% higher SOS than UMass Boston, doesn't make them a better team, so the human element should be called for.

Or you play in a league that picks up 33 wins but only 4 (2 of which to Conn College) of those wins come against teams with a .600 win % (all other leagues have 7+). You then play those teams in your league 3 times with no "poor" team to offset the inflated win % and you get an inflated SOS. But then again I've gone over this a time or two.

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

I completely understand this argument but I disagree with it. People are mistaken when they argue that the whole purpose of the regular season is to determine the playoffs. Historically speaking, it's the opposite. I think everyone deserves equal opportunity. That's what competition is all about. Winning the SUNYAC may be 100x more difficult than winning the MASCAC, relatively speaking, but it's just to have champion v. champion to determine who's better. Sure, we can all agree that Plattsburgh is better than Plymouth State, but as champions of their conference Plymouth should have the opportunity to represent their conference and make Plattsburgh beat them on the ice (for example). Win your conference and you get your chance (if your conference has enough teams).

Correct. What if one day the ECAC NE and MASCAC produce the Top 2 teams in the NCAA but because 10 years ago their conference was "so weak to deserve a bid" were not granted participation into the dance. Yes it does take out say a Plattsburgh and or Babson this year and NORMALLY grant a team or two a free ticket to the next round, but this is the case with every NCAA Sport.

Standard Deviation among all teams SOS is .033043%

Now you're seeing it clearly, lol !! Hoping Hobart loses, but it they win, give them the Pool B. Now Plattsburgh only has to jump Mass-Boston (who shouldn't really be ranked ahead of them anyway). Adrian, Norwich and Amherst trifecta could do it in the even Cards don't win outright. I've bet worse trifecta's than that !

Remy, clearly you didn't read this last paragraph where I contradicted myself and did admit it was remotely possible. Having all four favorites win their conference tournaments would seem to be even a more remote possibility!

You've forgotten one team: UW-Stevens Point. I think they are the Pool B win or lose. However, if they don't get Pool B, they become a very strong Pool C candidate.

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

I'm not a fan of the tournament schedule this year. I much preferred it when the play in games were during the week and the 1/4 final games was held the Saturday after Section Sunday. Depending how the 7/4 or 8/3 split goes the top 3 or 4 ranked teams will have 2 weeks off before they play in the 1/4 finals. Just think for some reason if Trinity happens to be one of these teams they could have a 3 week period with out playing. Oswego did the 2 weeks in 2007 and it worked for them but I would much rather be playing and not just practicing.

While I understand your disappointment, as a hockey fan I'd like to see hockey 7 days a week and also why I watch a lot of MASCAC and ECAC NE teams during the week, but A. some coaches would relish at the chance to have an off week going into the NCAA's to get some injuries healed up and B. Several teams (especially out West) endure several hundreds of miles on a bus only to have to arrive back home Thursday morning to turn right around and drive a few hundred miles in the opposite direction the same day. Sometimes lucky to get a pee break back in the home town. IMO its about time.

You've forgotten about Stevens Point, who I think gets in (Pool B or Pool C) one way or another win or lose.

I also think if Hobart wins, they get a bid too. They would have a .777 WIN, a SOS near.550, and unbeaten in their last 10 games. I think those are enough to overcome the RNK.

Let's also remember they are STUDENT-athletes. With the new format, less class time missed.

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

You're right, I did forget Stevens Point. Now the Cards chances look even dimmer. Here's the only Pool C scenario:

Amherst wins NESCAC tourney
Norwich beats Babson
Neumann beats Hobart
Adrian beats St. Norbert

I'll bet at least 2, if not 3 of those happens. Cards need at least 3 to happen.

The anarchist in me prefers #Carnage this weekend

SNC wins
Amherst does not win
Babson wins
Hobart Wins
Stevens Point loses

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

I really don't think it can be trusted to make decisions on who the best teams are. It can choose who the best teams are on paper, yeah, and if that's all anyone cares about then it is what it is, but it just doesn't seem right to me.

I'm still mindblown that some of these conferences get an auto-bid. I'd love to see those team's stats lined up against any of the team's we've been talking about. That's the biggest joke of this whole system, that only 11 teams get to go and conferences with awful hockey actually get an auto-bid, after playing awful schedules all year and not always even performing well within them.
