Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Why did the Belgian fans go completely apes**t over that late goal against Russia? Such low expectations.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Come here to talk Futbol, make a point that it seems as if making an interent video of a ton of celebrations seems a little too much for the first game of the WC for our team. Unless you think the team is so bad that the game result was more than you expect.

And just get mocked for it. Great.

Can always count on boards to completely understand a point...

I guess having reasonable expectations is a bad thing anymore.

Enjoy your participation trophies.

I think you're completely missing the point.

Is it good to have expectations? Of course. I thought the U.S. would be lucky to get two points, but I thought the group was too tough. I'm already pleasantly surprised. However, you have to take things into consideration. Ghana had knocked us out twice in a row, but we beat them. Have you ever faced someone in a competition and they just kept beating you? Didn't it feel great to finally get over on them? That's that what it was for a majority of U.S. soccer fans. We finally beat the guys that beat us.

As for the celebration vids, I think they're fine. We as hockey and soccer fans always complain that they're not enough of casual fans. We post vids like this to say to show people that the sports are fun. Maybe it hooks someone to watch the sport some more. Inclusion is a good thing.

I know there's still a lot of group play to sort out, but enjoy it. We took a step I didn't think the team would make. If they Portugal, it will be fantastic. (Although Ronaldo scares me to death.) Just enjoy the journey. The destination isn't going to be winning the Cup. Not for a long time, but the framework is there. (And this is coming from a guy who calls himself Doctor Doom.)

Been trying to figure out the same thing

At first I figured they were boos. But the whistles always start as soon as Korea would get possession, so I think it's the Korean fans being encouraging. (Based on what I saw living in Asia, that's a very typical thing to do. "We'll all have whistles, and we'll all blow them when our guys have the ball, to urge them on to victory!")

The viewing party at Chicago's Grant Park is at full capacity. For public safety, there will be no further admissions.

Yeah, no one cares about soccer.

If you're on Twitter, tweet support to @ussoccer You won't be disappointed by the response.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Anyone watching this pregame coverage? They just showed American troops in Afghanistan celebrating the U.S. goals vs Ghana. If we can't count on our troops to not cheer for the US then we don't have a chance.

For having all the tattoos and Mohawk, that guy is a gigantic p**ssy

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Really need some sort of spark. I don't think we can score out of a 4-5-1. Not enough attacking options.

Without Jozy, not sure what choice Klinsmann had formation-wise. I hope Dempsey can convert one of the long balls or one of the midfielders can get forward for support.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

They are looking okay actually.
I like the way they're playing more than when they played Ghana. Of course it may be the difference between playing from behind vs. playing prevent defense.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Ronaldo with a free kick is usually a scary proposition.

Also as a United fan, where the heck did this come from with Nani?
