The end of leagues as we know?

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

I'm sure it depends on the region, but my understanding is that FCS is typically a premier package (ie highest tier/add on package).

EDIT: It's also important to note that for DirecTV, regardless of whatever package you have, you can add the sports pack and get BTN, Versus and FCS. You can have the family (29.99) or select (39.99-44.99) package and add the sports pack, and still be under what you would pay just for the Choice (60.99) or Choice Extra (65.99) packages.

Or get the Premier package for $105 ;)

Incidentally, that is the listed price. No one should be paying the listed price. Call them, say you want to cancel, talk to a level II CSR and tell them you got a better deal from Dish or Comcast or whoever. Tell them you love DTV and would like to stay with them, but the deal is too good to pass up. If you are still under contract, tell them their competitor has offered to buy them out. They want to keep you as a customer and the goodies will flow. Level II CSRs are authorized to meet almost any price. Last time I called the CSR just asked me, "What do you need to remain with us?" and then honored it. The time before that they matched the (imaginary) offer from Dish so I got DTV at Dish Network prices for a year. It's incredibly easy.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

Watching the Tour de France this month. The stages lately have been littered with crashes. The overriding sentiment regarding crashes and how to avoid them - stay in the front of the peloton. The announcers say it, ex-riders say it, and current riders say it too. If you don't do the work ahead of time and get in the front of the peloton before the crash happens, it is too late to react once the crash happens.

To compare the conference realignment to the Tour. Many fans are arguing that the teams at the front of the peloton caused the crash and it's their fault for pushing the pace. The Big 10 teams forced the pace to form a breakout group, the SL teams followed course which caused a chain reaction in the peloton that resulted in a crash. These same fans are upset because they feel the push of pace by the Big 10 and SL was unnecessary. They were at the front of the peloton and were going to win the race anyway. There was no need to cause havoc. Even if they do gain a few seconds over the peloton, any gains are negligible at best.

Some fans are arguing what the cycling community would appear to argue. The crash is horrible, we wish it didn't happen, but, at the end of the day, you really should have been in the front of the peloton before the crash happened. It's a competition and you can't blame somebody for trying to win the race.

I see both sides of the argument and blame Lance Armstrong.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

But ok UND will never be on national tv.

Or for that matter Canada. Everybody in North America will be able to watch the BTHC . If I am a Canadian recruit and I am looking to head south and continue my hockey career I am more apt to purchase the BTN channel. IMO, the BTHC will have a huge recruiting advantage over everybody in the country.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

Start watching Super League games on Versus and maybe they'll feature some 30 second Tour de France promos at halftime. :D

1) I doubt the LTHC will be on Versus
2) The LTHC is going from periods to halves? What is this, Qatar?

Really? Not only do you believe they will be on Versus but also change the rules of hockey. To be honest I'm not sure which is more delusional...

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

The formation of the super league is a disgrace and disrespects the history and tradition of college hockey. I hope DU dies a slow death with no fan interest in any of their opponents and UND loses their nickname and has to rip out every Indians logo in that lavish nazi bunker they call home. Terry Pegula may have started this bs but UND didn't have to listen to DU and ruin what made college hockey special.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

With Comcast in the Minneapolis area it goes 25-ESPN, 26-ESPN2, 27-BTN, 28-FSN, 68-VS. To get any of the other FCS channels you have to upgrade to the sports package, although that is only something like $8.99/mo. I highly doubt I will be seeing a single UND game on my regular FSN channel.

Regarding this whole ordeal...
As an SCSU fan, I'm over it. Yeah it would've been nice to get an invite, especially when you see a team like UMD there (no offense.) Our program will be fine. If the Huskies can start winning conference titles and continue to regularly make the NCAAs the arena will be filled. Winning cures all. This is going to be used for years to come as motivation for the players, coaches, and fans of the program. I highly doubt we will ever see another Huskies team physically back down from the Sioux as has happened in the past couple years. If this doesn't put a chip on each and every one of the leftovers shoulder, they aren't paying attention.

As a college hockey fan, this was a rushed decision that is breaking apart the best college hockey conference that ever existed. Truly unfortunate.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

Where was the Minnesota legislature when Minnesota was leaving the WCHA?
Eh, its not like they're going to tell UMTC to leave the Big Ten because they're forcing their hockey program under the Big Ten banner. lets be honest about that. About the only thing they really could do about that was just throw in some stipulation that they actually have to make an appearence every so often in Bemidji, Duluth, Mankato, and St. Cloud. Say like once every 5 years or so. But those smaller schools that are already all in the same league as far as their other sports go? yeah, if they really wanted to make an issue out of it, they could put something together that tells them that they all have to stick together for hockey so that the State of Minnesota would be able to recup their investment from some of the improvements to their arenas via taxes or some other legal mumbo-jumbo.

Eh, at least it beats seeing Lacrosse highlights....

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

Well I see the "Sioux-Per" League or shiuld we call it the "Little WCHA" has made it's announcement. No mention of Notre Dame or Western Michigan as rumor had it. Looks like a scaled down version of the WCHA without trips to Alaska and Houghton.

Also, interesting I've yet to see any comments or official statements by any University President / Chancellor. Looks like the AD's are in charge of their respective universities.

The chore now or the "leftovers" is to create a league with those truly committed to D-I hockey. A commitment to funding the program, making sure the facilities are competitive and have a long-term vision for the sport at their school. SCSU, BSU, NMU, MTU and MSU are solid. Now is the time to be sure of this. Do not carry any dead weight forward.

The next task is to schedule the most competitive non-conference schedule possible. The ultimate goal is the NCAA. It's never about the conference itself.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

so the Super 8 is now a Motel 6. enjoy.

personally I hope the "leftovers" from the CCHA and WCHA can form two leagues to take up two autobids.

They'd be foolish not to.

2 leagues with an interlocking schedule perhaps for the pairwise. get the most bang for the buck with having 2 autobids and try to set things up so that things should be good enough that they should be able to get another team into the NCAA's as well without an autobid.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

FSN will not televise anything not Gopher hockey related because UMD, SCSU, MSU-M, BSU etc have not been able to make money for FSN. This is all early and of course things can change.
Maybe they don't make money for FSN, but that didn't stop FSN from picking up the SCSU @ Denver game at the end of last season.
