The end of leagues as we know?

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

Yeah, but they're not consistently even in the top half of the WCHA, they went on a run, they didn't even finish in the top 3 of the WCHA last year. Here's Duluth's finish in the last 13 years, and before you start yelling at me about how I unfairly cut it off there, I used siouxsports.com's standings, that's as far back as they go.

4th, 4th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 9th, 6th, 2nd, 5th, 9th, 10th, 8th, 9th. That's an average of finishing 7.08th place, out of usually ten teams (sure there were 12 this past year, but the last year I have shown is them finishing 9th in a 9-team league). 1 top 3 finish, 2 dead last finishes and 4 times out of 13 finished top half to get home ice in the playoffs. SCSU over that same time had finishes of 9th, 3rd, 6th, 5th, 2nd, 6th, 9th, 6th, 6th, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 7th, for an average of 5.08th place or averaging 2 spots higher every year. 5 top 3 finishes, 0 dead last finishes, and 6 out of 13 times hosted the playoffs. Oh, and we've been division one for about 25 years, Duluth has been for about 70. But no, I'd have taken Duluth there too, they're a proven, consistent winner.

Somebody's gotta finish 6th...

The UNO faithful have been very quiet on this subject, but let me ask the question:

Is it possible that the "Motel 6" move isn't even the biggest d___ move Trev Alberts has pulled this year?

Motel 6 is a big floppy donkey, but to call the wrestling coach the night his team wins a third straight NC really takes the money shot here.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

The key difference is that many of you are either personally attacking supporters of the schools that "caused" this or intimating that those schools are somehow devious when YOUR school tried to do the same thing. Do you think for even a second that if MTU was offered a slot in the Motel 6 that they would have turned it down?
I DONT BLAME UNO, UMD, or CC. As I've said before, they really didn't have a choice, say yes or be left behind. DU wanted this, UND helped push it along. The blame for everything that is unfolding lays at the feet of Terry Pegula and the University of North Dakota.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

Also, I will point out this, it doesn't excuse the WCHA from voting to allow Notre Dame and Miami, but it is what it is:

The WCHA allegedly voted to allow them. Doesn't mean that they had to accept the offer, it was just saying that if they're gonna leave (and I cannot see Miami and Notre Dame in any universe stayng), they might as well join the WCHA. I personally would hope that they'd decline the invitation, but it would be Miami and Notre Dame that would have left for the WCHA in that scenario.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

Think of the positives, you'll have much more time to work on your PhotoShop skills when Michigan Tech doesn't have a hockey team.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

As for the Big Ten...Michigan wont go to the Ralph because it is a road game outside of Michigan so they are out. ;) The rest of the Big Ten probably doesnt even know where Grand Forks is :p I am not sure if the Hostile and Abusive thing is a Big Ten rule, but none of them will go out of their way to go to UND anyways. They can find cheaper opponents closer to home.

Actually, you should pray that they keep their name. As long as they are the Fighting Sioux none of the Big Ten teams will play them. In fact, I have personal confirmation from Maturi that they will not schedule the Fighting Sioux as long as they are the Fighting Sioux. (he also said he and Lucia are going to meet next week to discuss how to schedule the Minnesota colleges fwiw)

So here is hoping the Sioux win their lawsuit so they can put together a wonderful schedule without the BTHC and BHHC teams. I am sure AHA and the ECAC will bend over backwards to fly to Grand Forks :D

What Handy is telling everybody the Big Ten will not be playing any more games at UND in our life time. They can travel to Mpls, Madison, Lansing but that will be it.

Uhm no, Minnesota and Wisconsin will never play the Sioux in a regular season game after the B1Gs leave the WCHA because of their nickname...

What is your point? You are crying SCSU should have been picked over UMD? It is over and SCSU was not asked to be in the little six confernece. Get over it and move on.

Right, pick yourself up and take the flag, the WCHA needs to look forward, not backwards. screw 'em and who cares who the BHHC picked? That's over now...all that is left is finding a way to become stronger and keep the WCHA respectable.

On behalf of NMU I'd like to welcome ourselves to the new WCHA.

Seriously though, there was a CCHA Conf. call on Friday. Of those not invited in the call were the Big Ten schools, Miami and Notre Dame.

Uhm no, Minnesota and Wisconsin will never play the Sioux in a regular season game after the B1Gs leave the WCHA because <del>of their nickname</del> they want to play cupcakes to boost their NC schedule...

And they might even lose!

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

Out of the ashes rises the Phoenix in the the form of College Hockey America! It amazes me that D2-D3 needs to be re-alligned but D1 was find where it was at even after the Big Ten Conference forming. For some of these teams things will turn out badly for them and their coaches.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

So how does Bruce McLeod not catch wind of this. His office is on the University of Denver's campus. My guess is he'll be heading off with the new conference since he's a UMD grad and former athletic director for his alma mater.

Are you really that nieve or a student? Just because the man's office is there certainly doesn't mean he's in the loop. LOL,this is what happens in the corporate world all the time. Just because I have an office at company X does not mean that I'm privy to the plans of company X.

That would be great. I like Bruce. The reality is that he's just a mouthpiece for the teams to speak as one. Too many noobs think that being WCHA Commish makes you Gary Bettman. It doesn't. So I'd be happy to keep Bruce around as WCHA commish but I say it would be great because some BHHC fans have this completely psychopathic hate for him. They'd be miserable.

Oh by no means, but it's still a rather suspicious conspiracy.
