The Dead thread - God sorts 'em out!

Re: The Dead thread - God sorts 'em out!

Why would people rejoice at his death? Other than being fairly kooky, the Mormon Church is pretty harmless when all is said and done. Its big push had been anti-gay marriage, and now that they've completely lost that battle, all that's left to them is their Super Undies.

I actually interpreted joe's comments to be alluding to ex-Mormons. Those are the folks who loathe the Quorum of the Twelve.

The Mormons seem to get less Scientology and more Chamber of Commerce every day. They're just another successful multinational at this point. And if nothing else they're worth keeping around because of the genealogy work. They believe stupid stuff, but all religions believe stupid stuff, it just sounds less like BS to people when it's from 1200 BC Palestine rather than 1850 AD Upstate New York.

This board has a trend of condemning those who do not agree with its politics.

The Mormon Church does excellent charitable work, too. It's the largest food program outside the government, and it's 100% funded by donated money and time. Plus, something I find deeply needed, though it goes against what many around here think, they require that those who receive food from the program donate a few hours to the cause for each week they receive food, and that level of service varies dependent upon individual conditions. On the whole, when balancing the good and the bad of that religion, I'd say those kooks are a net positive for the country.

Not to mention one helluva choir. Going to see them tonight. If there is an "America's Choir", the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is it.

Dr. Mrs. Kepler takes a dim view of the Mormons because she knew a lot of families growing up in AZ and was a first hand spectator to a lot of the brainwashing and hypocrisy.

Personally, my only brush with them was stopping at UT restaurants on a cross-country road trip in '88 and seeing table after table of incredibly well-behaved children and gorgeous, 50s-dressed young ladies, both of which made quite a favorable impression on a 20-something used to the genetic backwaters of Five Towns and Staten Island.

So Mormons are good coz you wanted to shag them?

Oh, don't be so hard on the pro-lifers. When they accuse pro-choice people of being baby killers, we don't take it personally.

At the very least, the Mormons, unlike other religions, have a sense of humor.
