The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

You know, I'd like a little proof before I start buying the notion that someone has a private arsenal of private drones out there. First if true UFO sighting would skyrocket anywhere they were deployed as half drunk people would think they're seeing aliens. Can you imagine Bourbon St in New Orleans, a place where many a private investigator would presumably be operating trying to catch cheating spouses or whatnot, having a drone fly overhead a 3AM? :D. The FBI would be flooded with calls from people trying to connect with Mulder and Sculley.

Next, while shooting them down would be nice, I'm not sure we want the good people of "flyover country" blasting off Howitzers whenever they think they're being spied on. As bullets don't have names on them, the chances of an accidental tragedy go up exponentially.

I don't think private drones are commonplace at all. But with technology and the internet, it could well be here soon. Outlawing the concept while its in infancy will discourage what might otherwise be getting a lot of R&D over the coming years. I don't see the government wasting big dollars spying on individuals 'just because' being the big threat...I see some guy down the block with a drone watching my wife with a kit he bought on the internet as the threat. Deciding what to ban is definitely the tricky part.

Umm, you must not understand the concept of birdshot.

yeah, like Joe Mullet down at the gas station is going to settle for birdshot when shooting at drones! These are the same people who use shotguns to swat flies in their trailer homes.

You think they'll just shoot birdshot? The Rambo-wannabes will be firing off assault weapons at whatever "drone" they think they see in the sky.

I'll have to take your word for that. How much time do you spend hanging out in trailer parks to have such intimate knowledge of what people do there, anyway?

It's on various reality TV shows.

So the Fort Hood shooter, representing himself, rested the defense without calling a witness today. Pretty sure the Appeals court won't allow an 'Incompetent Counsel' argument, since he insisted on representing himself. Is he going for Martyrdom and the 72 virgins, hoping he gets sentenced to death? That'll sure cause Muslims in the US to rise up in protest. Or not.

I'll have to take your word for that, since I am no aficiondo of any scripted television shows that try to call themselves "reality."

Do you and Rover watch these shows together over a friendly bowl of popcorn?

Remember in Catch-22 when Orr (at least I think it was Orr) killed the field mouse with the .45? I could not stop laughing at Joseph Heller's description.

Won't be a problem for him if he is sentenced to death: the military hasn't executed anyone in 50 years or more.

I've reconsidered on the matter of making the victims of the shooting eligible for the Purple Heart (and higher payouts). I think they should be. We've all been nauseated by the designation of what happened at Ft. Hood as "workplace violence." "Dr." Hasan was a chancre, even put SoA (Soldier of Allah) on his GD business cards!

At the risk of jumping to conclusions: why is this murderous Islamist bast*rd allowed to flout Army regs requiring him to be being clean shaven? He's a field grade officer. Still drawing his salary. Why shouldn't he be required to shave? As every other Major of every other religion would be required to do? As an absolute minimum, his pay should have stopped when he sprouted the fuzz. The first trial judge was dismissed because he'd indicated "Dr." Hasan was going to have to shave. Just how far down the PC road are we going to go? This case does not reflect well on the military in general and the Army in particular. The Army overlooked clear signs the "Dr.'s" cheese had slid off his cracker, thus allowing him to pick the time and place for his slaughter of innocents. It remains to be seen if we've learned any lessons from this gross dereliction of duty by people charged with protecting the welfare of those who serve. And whether we're just waiting for the next SoA to go ape sh*t. We've had two of these incidents already. I don't want any more.

This is a case where it's almost too bad we don't do hangings anymore. Make the chair just short enough, and it's a slow death. The kind worthy of traitorous scum.

Looking back on it. It's really too bad that brave policewoman wasn't able to put his lights out.

So...PFC Manning wants to be called Chelsea now, huh?

I'm guessing his soon-to-be BFFs at Ft. Leavenworth will call him Chelsea or a few other names.

His lawyer plans to file a lawsuit to force the taxpayers to pay for his HRT and surgery, too. And given recent legal precedent, the odds are in his favor.

Will that fly in military prison though? Wondering if the rules might be different.

Manning can do whatever he pleases 35 years from now. In the meantime however maybe he'll get a post card from Assange once in awhile. Hope it was worth it.
