If only he hadn't been on his yacht Egypt would have a peaceful, democratic society now.
Peaceful is good. Democracy works in some places and does not in others.

And this just in -- the President of Venezuela has offered Snowden asylum. Now the trouble is getting there without being intercepted or shot down.

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

It had been held by terrorists since 1861 and the US Army took it away...in military terms: they seized it. Considering the siege took seven weeks, I don't think there was anything 'willing' about it. If you mean the fighting nationwide, that lasted four years and the terrorists threatened to hole up in the mountains where they could continue fighting for years, detonating the 19th Century version of IEDs on unsuspecting American soldiers.

You've replaced "seized" with "held" in describing what the natives of Vicksburg did, at least some of whom weren't complicit in slavery or anything else. These folks neither seized nor held Vicksburg--they lived there. Typically, you're straining to make your snotty trollesque point over and over again. The occasional instances where you make a clever point are far outweighed, IMO, by your ponderous, repetitive, snarky japes. Using 21st century terms to describe 19th century patriots (no matter how badly misguided) is really infantile. And gives us no insight on their thinking, but a considerable amount on yours.

Actually, it was the North that detonated the biggest "IED'" of the war at Petersburg. I've seen the crater, and a century and a half later it's still impressive.

My name is John Kerry, millionaire. I own a mansion and a yacht.

You left out the part about marrying an insufferable, boring, gozillionaire who began calling herself "Kerry" during his presidential campaign, then stopped after he lost. Evidently being the widow of the ketchup guy is a bigger deal than being the wife of a failed candidate.

Incidentally, my concerns about where Kerry are at any given moment can't be measured on home equipment. What difference does it make? That's a quote from the previous SecState, who apparently sat around in the Situation Room (or somewhere) for hours as several of her diplomats were murdered. In Kerry's case it evidently made a difference to the flunkies who lied for him.

Mrs. Kerry in Nantucket hospital. Was critical when arrived, now stable.

Many seem to think others should be fine living under a dictatorship...but for some reason, don't seem to approve of that for themselves.

They pay a good dividend, about 4% right now. Actually, they just recently went ex-dividend, so you should be able to see a lot of people looking to buy as a reinvest.
(Probably belongs on the Stocks threads). Bought two utility stocks yielding 5%. Will be cashing out the IRA in a few years so decided the cash dividends would be better than gambling on appreciation.

EDIT: Thing 2 pleads not guilty. We need a PPV event. Thing 2, Hernandez, and Whitey Bulger in the same room with 2 guns.

Of course, its not for Hamas.

I'm rather surprised that the author is failing to claim outrage over a permanent annual $3B going to Israel. Not.

Details.

You know who just gave a great speech on the dangers of believing false narratives? Michele Bachmann. And if there's anyone who knows a false narrative, it's her.

Nothing new there, really. Fund Israel and Palestine at the same time, so they focus on killing each other instead of the US. We did the same thing with Iraq during the Iran-Iraq War. As soon as we pulled our funding, Saddam stepped up the anti-Western rhetoric and aggression towards other Middle Eastern countries, leading to the Gulf War. "Blowback", the CIA calls it.

Flaggy, my offer of a wager still stands. I'll give you 10:1 odds that martial law is not declared before inauguration day 2017. You wager $100, and I'll put up $1000. Put up or shut up.

Ill even take you off ignore to hear your answer.

You'd better set some parameters. If martial law gets declared in Syria he'll be calling you up looking to collect. :D
