Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

You'd better set some parameters. If martial law gets declared in Syria he'll be calling you up looking to collect. :D

You know what the funny thing is? I was actually going to use that loophole.

I would if he actually accepted the bet in principal. But he won't cause he's just trolling. He turned it down when he made the same bullshiat prediction years ago.

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

Does it have to be the entire CONUS or can it be just a city?

The comment from 2 or 3 years ago was something to the effect of Obama becoming a dictator by declaring martial law over the entire U.S. so that he wouldn't have to leave office.

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

There are a handful of articles that are exclaiming that the NSA tracks all web data. My question is...didn't everyone already assume that? This is not the 1920s. How does the country stop terrorist attacks if it sticks it head in the sand?

And the stock market was going to crash when ObamaCare passed.

Every time I see one of these righties post an article on CNBC, I have to ask myself: How many of these idiots have taken a large short position since Obama got re-elected? Because if they did, no wonder they're so bent all the time. :D

Looks like the town of Deer Trail, CO will follow through on drone hunting. $25 gets you a license.

Wonder how much the UFO license costs?

Will they also allow you to try to shoot down USAF jets?

Personally, if there is a showdown between some nut with a shotgun and a drone armed with missiles...my money's on the drone.

Actually, this isn't quite as spurious as it looks on first glance, although i doubt Deer Trail will see that much action.

The use of drones is spreading to private detectives and paparazzi. While I'm no celebrity, I'd be fairly pizzed if i saw a drone hovering over my backyard party snapping pictures of my guests.

Unfaithful spouses may also fall prey to drone surveillance as well.

I shudder to imagine the action on pedophile websites as they share stories with each other on how to buy drones and use them to film the action at the local kiddie pool. yuck!

On the flip side, I also can see insurance investigators checking out disability claims, for instance, by using a drone to film a person who claims to be disabled while they are competing in a triathlon, for example.

I can't find the link to that particular story but there are plenty just like it, the Long Island Rail Road has been in the news in NY for weeks over a massive disability scam covering dozens of workers who claimed "disability" while perfectly heatlhy.

This is just one of many, many stories.

Already, anyone can buy a drone kit online and use it to photograph anything they can find. Not hard to imagine half a dozen or more in the air in the same areas at the same time in a year or two.

This, exactly. Nobody is going to be shooting down military drones - they're designed specifically do be very difficult to shoot down, because they know people will be shooting at them! Civilian drones (public and private) are the "target" of this legislation.

I did not realize that "civilian drones" had become so prominent. In this case, by all means, shoot them down. I have no problem shooting down a drone owned by a private individual probably to spy on you or someone else. Some 8 shot should work swimmingly.

Me neither. Frankly private drones should be outlawed, period. I don't agree with the...yeah, but I want the freedom to have my own drone!

Not sure if others agree...but IMO public drones are acceptable if legal. Just make sure they're tied to law enforcement/FBI and have solid oversight. I have no problem with using a drone to get the bad guy before or on his way to committing a serious crime.

Are people there this gullible? It would be like Kansas issuing a license to hunt sharks. There aren't any. It would be cheaper just to get a bumper sticker saying you have the permit.

But just in case, I would like to interest them in a bridge in Brooklyn...cheap.

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

It's easy to say "outlaw drones," but what does that mean? Even when I was a kid (way back in the late '70s) you could buy a kit for a remote-controlled film camera (still shots) that you could strap onto an RC airplane. Is that a "drone" or not?

That was the opening sequence of this week's King & Maxwell episode.

Meanwhile, on the military drone front....

Six suspected militants were killed in a strike on two vehicles in southern Yemen on Wednesday, according to Yemeni officials, who separately said they had foiled several al Qaeda plots on targets in the country.....

A Yemeni official directly involved in the counterterrorism relationship with the U.S. said Wednesday that his government this week had foiled what he called an al Qaeda plan to strike a Yemeni military installations in San'a, the capital. The official also said Yemeni security forces have uncovered a plot against the Mina al Dhaba oil terminal at the Mukallah port in southern Yemen and plans to attack a pipeline in Shabwa province, where Wednesday morning's strike against alleged militants took place.

A Yemeni government spokesman, Rejah Badi, separately detailed the same allegedly foiled plots.

The Yemeni officials didn't provide details into how the alleged plots were discovered or who they said were behind them

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

You know, I'd like a little proof before I start buying the notion that someone has a private arsenal of private drones out there. First if true UFO sighting would skyrocket anywhere they were deployed as half drunk people would think they're seeing aliens. Can you imagine Bourbon St in New Orleans, a place where many a private investigator would presumably be operating trying to catch cheating spouses or whatnot, having a drone fly overhead a 3AM? :D. The FBI would be flooded with calls from people trying to connect with Mulder and Sculley.

Next, while shooting them down would be nice, I'm not sure we want the good people of "flyover country" blasting off Howitzers whenever they think they're being spied on. As bullets don't have names on them, the chances of an accidental tragedy go up exponentially.
