The 2nd Term - Round 2 - Amensty for Some, Miniature AR-15s for Others...

Re: The 2nd Term - Round 2 - Amensty for Some, Miniature AR-15s for Others...

Its not a repayment limit, its a borrowing limit. Reigning in spending by preventing the government from borrowing more money seems perfectly reasonable to me. Granted what they should do is put more effort into stopping the spending bills but the republicans rarely have spines.

No, it's not a borrowing limit. It's a limit on how much debt the U.S. will repay. It's as though you've racked up a $10,000 credit card bill, then told the credit company that you're only going to pay back $8,000 of it for no reason other than you don't feel like paying more of it.

We've had fights over the debt limit since at least the mid 1960s.

Name me one other time a party actually came up to the line and threatened default prior to last year, and I'll agree with that statement.

Token resistance for political points or 'no' votes when the raise in the ceiling was never in doubt do not count.

Some chatter that Hugo Chavez of Venezuela has died. No confirmation yet.

Sounds threatening to me.

When WaPo reporter Milton Coleman told the world of JJ's "hymietown" comments, Calypso Louis Farrakhan said: "We will punish you with death." Then hilariously denied it was a threat.

This is the same Louis Farrakhan who, according to his widow Betty Shabazz, arranged the assassination of her husband, Malcolm X.

You don't have an issue with the White House telling a reporter, "You will regret this"?
The White House is Dem Controlled, they can do no wrong

Re: The 2nd Term - Round 2 - Amensty for Some, Miniature AR-15s for Others...

Ah knuckledraggers, when will you learn? Journalists have no ethics. I don't care if they work for Brietbert or the New York Times. Here's the full e-mail exchange between Woodward and Sperling, and Woodward sure doesn't seem worried for his safety in his response:

POLITICO’s “Behind the Curtain” column last night quoted Bob Woodward as saying that a senior White House official has told him in an email he would “regret” questioning White House statements on the origins of sequestration. The official in question is Gene Sperling, economic adviser to the president. The White House has since pushed back, saying the exchange was far more innocuous than Woodward claims.

From Politico: We have obtained, exclusively, the exchange. Here it is:

From Gene Sperling to Bob Woodward on Feb. 22, 2013

Bob:

I apologize for raising my voice in our conversation today. My bad. I do understand your problems with a couple of our statements in the fall — but feel on the other hand that you focus on a few specific trees that gives a very wrong perception of the forest. But perhaps we will just not see eye to eye here.

But I do truly believe you should rethink your comment about saying saying that Potus asking for revenues is moving the goal post. I know you may not believe this, but as a friend, I think you will regret staking out that claim. The idea that the sequester was to force both sides to go back to try at a big or grand barain with a mix of entitlements and revenues (even if there were serious disagreements on composition) was part of the DNA of the thing from the start. It was an accepted part of the understanding — from the start. Really. It was assumed by the Rs on the Supercommittee that came right after: it was assumed in the November-December 2012 negotiations. There may have been big disagreements over rates and ratios — but that it was supposed to be replaced by entitlements and revenues of some form is not controversial. (Indeed, the discretionary savings amount from the Boehner-Obama negotiations were locked in in BCA: the sequester was just designed to force all back to table on entitlements and revenues.)

I agree there are more than one side to our first disagreement, but again think this latter issue is diffferent. Not out to argue and argue on this latter point. Just my sincere advice. Your call obviously.

My apologies again for raising my voice on the call with you. Feel bad about that and truly apologize.

Gene

From Woodward to Sperling on Feb. 23, 2013

Gene: You do not ever have to apologize to me. You get wound up because you are making your points and you believe them. This is all part of a serious discussion. I for one welcome a little heat; there should more given the importance. I also welcome your personal advice. I am listening. I know you lived all this. My partial advantage is that I talked extensively with all involved. I am traveling and will try to reach you after 3 pm today. Best, Bob

All the guy is saying is that you'll regret being wrong. Woodward, a human being the last time I checked, has been wrong before. Like his two glowing books about the Iraq War, only followed up by a 3rd trashing it after it had gone bad.

Re: The 2nd Term - Round 2 - Amensty for Some, Miniature AR-15s for Others...

That seems pretty incriminating to me. Let's string him up.

Re: The 2nd Term - Round 2 - Amensty for Some, Miniature AR-15s for Others...

Look, nobody wants a WH threatening people, but it has to be said that reporting nowadays is a business. As a businessman, Woodward's job is to sell books. How do you do that? Create buzz, especially amongst a population (conservatives) that normally aren't part of his audience. Doesn't make him any worse than most journalists, but it doesn't make him some sort of deity either. The days of Uncle Walter Kronkite or Edward R Murrow are gone. Woodward had to know this e-mail exchange existed, and it wouldn't back up his version of events, so ask yourself why he'd even go there? To generate publicity.

Re: The 2nd Term - Round 2 - Amensty for Some, Miniature AR-15s for Others...

Wish I could say I was surprised by the threat to Woodward. But, it really fits the disdainful attitude this administration has for all who oppose/disagree with them or even question them. But, most of the media will sweep this under the rug as quickly as possible, per standard operating procedure.

Ummm...Bob, read the e-mail exchange. No threat happened. How many times do righties have to be made fools of by fabrications from the press before you learn your lesson? Insisting something is true when evidence comes out that its not makes you look like a total idiot. If that's your goal, okay then well done. If not get informed. Remember the Shirley Sherrod story?

Did you even read the email exchange? What threat are you talking about? Or is this just another talking point conservatives will beat into the ground even though it has no basis in reality?
