Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread
Listen, I'm a Merrimack grad but a HUGE Maine fan...have been since the year before PK showed up there in the early 90's...I can understand you guys being a little upset about last night but to say that MC was running the goalie? Yeah, they bumped him, but if you were at the game, you would have seen them driving the net and getting knocked down or into the goalie. When I look at the box score, I see a 9-2 advantage for Maine in the PP department. If you are going to get handed 9 PP (and handed being the correct word on a few of them that were just AWFUL calls), you can't complain too much of the ones you didn't get calls on. Maine has the top PP in the country and were given 9 opportunities...if you are going to blame anybody for the loss last night, I think your PP unit is where the fingers should be pointed.
GO MACK...GO MAINE...hope to see you both at the Garden!!!
Merrimack defended Canatta, if players went near him, they got beaten up pretty bad. Diamond, in the first, was on his back, in the crease when a knee came down on his throat. (hitting after the whistle was called, but a minor is a little light for that sort of thing.
I am all for running the goalie to try and win. Maine not only does not run goalies under Tim, they also do not retaliate against opponents when Maine's goalies get run.
This often times means Maine loses. The players had been taught for 15 years or more to defend their goalies, make sure other teams know NOT to run the goalie because there will he a price to pay. Tim unteaches that.
Also, players are taught to stay on their wings. Last night the giant mites were out again, all swarming the puck where ever it was on the ice. I have NO idea how a coach can see the good results of players staying on their wings earlier in the season, and then revert back to last night's idiocy.
whatever, I just might miss my first Maine away game since the Alaska series, it is just no fun.
as for the power plays, Merrimack earned more penalties last night, plain and simple.
