Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

With the way Maine lets their goalies get run we'll need to find a walk on.

the way merrimack gets away with running goalies is ridiculous... tonight wasn't the first time won't be the last... darling hasn't been the same since he came back from his injury (getting run by a MC forward) earlier this year... merrimack was also responsible for an injury to bishop when he was here.... and maine's not the only team they've done it to

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

I never thought that we'd get to the point where Merrimack would take it to us.......:(

If Maine loses tomorrow night......consider me back on the FIRE TIMMAY! bandwagon.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

I said last week if Darling doens't find his game it's lights out. This is six or seven tough games in a row for him. He's either still hurt or just worn out same as the second half last year. Season's over. That's reality.

Then TIMMAY's goose is cooked too!

I would agree that there is something clearly wrong with Darling but the season is not over. We are capable of sweeping UNH who is currently in first. Were in third place now and control our destiny for home ice. So to say the season is over is absolutely ridiculous.
If we win tomorrow is the season still over?

Optimism has no place in this thread.

We're not going to beat anybody in the first round unless Darling gets his game back. I was optimistic he could after the BU series. After three more bad games? Nope. It's not happening.

Looking more and more like we're out unless we win Hockey East. Unless BC and BU both get out of our way, that's not happening.

So effectively, season's over.

Think about it. Against UNH we got down early and Darling made the saves late to make the comeback possible. You need NEED the goalie to not let his team down when they tie it 3-3 tonight. I don't care what the rush was, you gotta make that save. Same thing when we're trying to get back in the Sat night game with Lowell.

Maine's only alive because Darling had a personal 13 game unbeaten streak in the middle of the season. He's no where near that right now. And there's no sign of him getting it back. That's not optimist or pessimist. That's reality.

Big game tonight, we need a win. Looks like their might be some question about Merrimacks Rookie(DeCosta) playing tonight. He missed tuesdays game with BC, be nice if he missed this weekends games also:D

wally, i hope you got to see him put on a show up at the Alfond, because the way he picked Nyquist's pocket in the neutral zone, and the way he completely undressed 2 Maine defenders and scored effortlessly gave me a couple things to remember for a good long time. I do not think I have EVER seen a college player move that smoothly and just make the opposition look foolish like he did. Purcell might come close...

He Looked better against Maine than Crosby ever did against opponents in Juniors.

After seeing his moves and goal tonight, i did have to wonder if Tim got the scouting report on DaCosta.

If the most important player on the ice for your team isn't playing well, why would you think Maine is going to compete for anything? . No NCAAs and its a lost season once again.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Well, if its any consolation, Gustav is still leading the nation in points. :D

Maine had better play with a chip on their shoulders tonight, and that includes Darling. How embarrassing could that episode possibly have been? Ultimately, I still think Maine somehow finishes in fourth and loses in the quarterfinal, probably due to mediocre goaltending. Right now, 17 wins seems like a stretch.

edit...just checked their record, they need 5 wins to get to 17, so I guess they need to win tonight, sweep UMass at Alfond and win two games in the QF which puts them in the Boston.

That's because Maine doesn't do anything about it. They don't stick up for their goalie at all. Maine doesn't have an enforcer.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Maine owns the tie breaker with UML, NU and VT, but not with BU. If BU goes on a little run, they take third and hopefully Maine does no worse than tie with any of those other teams, if Maine lost one the rest of the way. Should Maine find a way to win tonight, they also would hold the tiebreaker with MC and if they take care of business next weekend, UMass would be a non factor.

I would assume with their PWR down at 18th now, they will likely need to get to TDBank and win at least one game to have any hope for the NCAA's?

If Maine doesn't get home ice for the quarterfinals the season is over in 2 weeks.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

The most frusterating goals to watch last night were the two where the Merrimack player went end to end and beat Darling with some some pretty unimpressive shots. Both times it appeared Maine was trying to get in passing lanes but no one challenged the man with the puck. Granted, I was at the other end of the ice and could not really see how the the puck went it but in both instances, the Merrimack player went untouched and Maine appeared to be just watching them go by.

I plan to go again tonight. That is one nice arena. I can't imagine what the old Lawler arena was like if this is the new and improved one.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

I think you have to start Wilson tomorrow night for Maine to have any chance of picking up points with any goaltending at all tonight Maine gets out of there with a point. Darling is definitely in his usual second half meltdown mode. His career second half numbers at Maine are abysmal 8-14-4 3.87 gaa .866 sv% compared to his first half career numbers 17-6-2 1.97 gaa .926 sv%.

The second and third goals were fluky and the fourth and fifth goals were just very high quality. Darling got ran twice in the third and it definitely shook him up. It was pretty ridiculous the refs let Merrimack get away with it.

We are afraid of taking penalties. No strong forecheck and no physical play as well. Let's all skate backwards and stick check. How about taking away time and space???
