The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

I know we've discussed years ago but I need to ask the question again because I don't remember being convinced by anyone... What makes anyone think the NCAA will put a regional in Bangor, Maine? It's a 100% disaster if Maine cannot make the tournament. There are so many better options in the East that make it accessible to more fans. Why would they risk losing all that money and the disgrace of possibly putting a regional on tv with no one there?

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Why would you build an arena that holds even less than the Alfond?

If they're gonna build something, they need to make it big enough to host a regional.

Number of seats in the arena won't matter for a regional if there's no ice capability...

You mean like putting a regional in Colorado Springs if CC doesn't make it?

The NCAA doesn't care about tickets sold, because they get their money from the venue regardless of tickets, and their cameras can find people no matter how sparse the crowd (just look at Albany).

But yes, on the east coast there are much better options for a regional than a mythical Bangor arena. I would not expect the NCAA to put a regional in Bangor unless the venue blew the competition out of the water with a huge bid.

Looks like you have the two thoughts you just need to put these together side by side to see why it's senseless.

Colorado Springs in the Western regional is not comparable because out West everyone is so spread apart. With the addition of Mullins, Bridgeport, and Manchester into the rotation as nicer, newer facilities with better location for a lot more fans, Bangor would have a hard time getting a bid and if they did, it would not be often.

No, I have one thought. Bangor isn't getting a regional, even if they build a freaking palace. The NCAA doesn't mind taking risks regarding who will be in it/attendance...even in the east. Attendance in Albany is dismal. If Maine or UNH aren't in Worcester, attendance there can suffer.

But the only way Bangor lands a regional (assuming they even build an arena) is if they outbid everyone else by a huge margin (which isn't going to happen).

Let me ask you this. What's your guess the attendance would average for a Bangor regional assuming Maine isnt in it?

Without knowing the prices, etc...maybe 2000. Maybe.

I would think they'd do a little better than that...I'd bet they would draw twice that, but thats just imo. Mainuhs like their hawkey and I think the novelty of it, which I suppose would wear off after a few regionals, would be good for attendance. I think if Maine's in it, you're guaranteed 5,000 plus another 1,000 minimum from away. Another draw I suppose would be if BC, UHN or BU were in it.....chit, another 2,000 would attend just to watch them choke. :D

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Big game tonight, we need a win. Looks like their might be some question about Merrimacks Rookie(DeCosta) playing tonight. He missed tuesdays game with BC, be nice if he missed this weekends games also:D

These next two losses are going to hurt. :(

In regards to the faceoffs. The UML Fri game House won 10, loss 5.

I think they win tonight:p So far the radio has them winning, oh wait their is no radio;)

Anyone else notice Darlings save % is below .900 now. Thats a pretty big concern if you ask me.

One of many concerns. On paper Merrimack should win both games.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

I think you have to start Wilson tomorrow night for Maine to have any chance of picking up points with any goaltending at all tonight Maine gets out of there with a point. Darling is definitely in his usual second half meltdown mode. His career second half numbers at Maine are abysmal 8-14-4 3.87 gaa .866 sv% compared to his first half career numbers 17-6-2 1.97 gaa .926 sv%.
