The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

One hour til puck drop.... I'll take the Maple Leafs by 9.

Any other prognosticators dare venture a guess?

Sorry, but, while I'm more than happy to admit when I'm wrong, I definitely feel the need to thorougly enjoy being right every once or twice a year! :D

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

that low point in both our countries relations and the game of hockey
Both our countries?

Au contraire...

It's politics, not hockey
Here are posts you have made regarding politics:
Yes, fans of the Montreal Canadiens sadly booed the US anthem, after 4 Canadians were killed in a friendly fire incident in Afghanistan (incidentally and of course accidentally) by Americans.
Here are posts I have made regarding politics:

The women playing in this tournament are exceptional athletes, regardless of their political affiliation. Let's please find some high ground, leave the nasty remarks, and watch/appreciate the product on the ice.
Oh... my freaking goodness. Get off your high horse and cry me a river. Welcome to sports rivalries.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Actually, the UMD IM league is mostly former MN high school players and very competitive. I'm sure she was challenged.
I wasn't really degrading Iya nor the UMD IM league. BC's IM hockey league isn't that great, we have a lot of problems with club hockey players joining the IM league and owning people. It's frustrating.

TTT20 -- I understand, thanks for the reply. She joined her national team after fall semester finals. That being said, I thought the Russian team including Iya didn't seem very competitive with the Finns last night. Their positional play was poor, got out hustled, and was beat to most of the loose pucks!

BTW, I was hoping to get out to Boston with the Mattila clan last year for the Frozen 4 and meet you and some of the other posters in the area. Just couldn't make it work. Always enjoy your and the others' posts.

Don't worry, BCWH Superfan joe and I didn't go either. We couldn't make ourselves spend almost $40 to see a game with two teams that neither of us liked! haha

It's a shame they don't have cheaper tickets for students, especially for a tournament that won't sell out.

Actually, they did have cheaper tickets for students--my daughter and some friends went. Only problem was that they didn't advertise the cheaper rate, you had to know about it and specifically ask for it.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Does anyone know where to find the broadcast (tv or online) of tonight's Sweden v Slovakia game? I see nothing on any of NBC's networks for this game....

No it was not on. BTD might have been covering it with their live blog, but I don't know.

At any rate, Sweden 6, Slovakia 2. Shots were 48-16. Pernilla Winberg with a hat trick for the Swedes, including one of the three Swedish power play goals. Elin Holmlov also with 3 points on a power play goal and two assists.

I believe they're airing it at 2:00 AM...that's central time. I think CNBC...don't quote me on that.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

About 30min until the faceoff of USA-Russia

Here is Mark Johnson's Lineup:

09-Molly Engstrom,D
11-Lisa Chesson,D
10-Meghan Duggan,F
12-Jenny Potter,F
19-Gigi Marvin,F

04-Angela Ruggiero,D
08-Caitlin Cahow,D
07-Monique Lamoureux ,F
17-Jocelyne Lamoureux,F
20-Natalie Darwitz,F

22-Kacey Bellamy,D
23-Kerry Weiland,D
13-Julie Chu,F
16-Kelli Stack,F
27-Jinelle Zaugg-Siergiej,F

05-Karen Thatcher,F
21-Hilary Knight,F

31-Jessie Vetter,G
01-Molly Schaus,G

No Erika Lawler in the Lineup today :( , and Hilary Knight will play with Thatcher to get her some rest as well. I guess they don't want to risk Erika being able to play later in the games but still if she wants to play they should at least let her try....

The Lam-Darwitz line should be interesting to watch as well.

Here is the blog link that will go live around 4:20pm

Game is also on MSNBC for those at home in front of the TV.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

USA Dominating.

Stack gets the latest tally.... it's 7-0 beginning of the second.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Sixth powerplay goal makes it 12-0, on a Molly Engstrom shot along the goal line extended...not really shooting to score.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Also, I think Russia is quite a bit stronger than China.
Okay, so I've been proven wrong again.

Beware the Russians. Having coached in International play against them I can tell you that they hate the Canadians and Americans when it comes to hockey. They are trained from a young age to be like this and will stop at nothing to beat us. Matches on both the Men's and Women's side are a must watch and line brawls are not out of the question!
The Russian women must not have gotten the memo.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Sorry, but this is pointless. Have the US and Canada play a 4 out of 7 a week before the Olympics and call it a day. "Someday", I get it, just as with the men, just as with basketball, "someday" there will be a call for a decent international tournament, but this is a fricken joke. Pointless.

Reading the Brown thread is almost more exciting than watching these routs.

Big deal, yeah, maybe, just maybe Sweden might give someone a game....fine, even if that's true...so maybe, just maybe there are three.

Send everyone back to school, and let's play college hockey. At least there, even Brown keeps games to an average differential of about 3.
