The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Wow, the Swiss coach was pumped up for that goal lol

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Check and mate.

I guess..if you think you've won. I have a slightly different take.

Check:
Most had forgotten about that low point in both our countries relations and the game of hockey, at least until you decided to post that piece of crap...Geez! I can live with your ignorance of that.

Mate:
You, on the other hand still have Ms. King. How's that working out for you?

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

The turning point in this game was Katie King et al. deciding it would be a good idea to throw the Canadian flag on their `locker room`floor and step on it with their skates. The Canadians found out and well...the rest is history.

Coincidentally, this is also how you roll:

Hmmm...I'm looking at the time stamp that goes with every post...tryin' to figure who it was that first referenced and reminisced about a forgotten "low point" in both our countries relations and the game of hockey.

That is if you were capable of understanding those fabricated accusations were indeed offensive to US citizens.

It seems you do hold the rest of us (Americans anyway) to a higher posting standard than yourself.

This would be my take.

Great intro...

You all seem to be convinced that the accusations are fabricated. I saw the video interview three times last week alone in the lead up to these Olympics. I'm sorry but I have to believe that Hayley Wickenheiser, Hockey Canada and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation are bound by their collective standards never to let that type of journalism repeat if there wasn't some validity to the claim that it did happen. I'll admit I did think it was common knowledge amongst the entire hockey community when I posted it and didn't mean to offend anyone. Except Tony.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

5 4, the flag incident was cleared years ago (within hours?) - please Google or visit the Hockey Canada or USA Hockey websites for the press releases pertaining to that incident. This was long since put to rest, I am completely astonished that it has come up again in the press, that's ridiculous.

Yes, fans of the Montreal Canadiens sadly booed the US anthem, after 4 Canadians were killed in a friendly fire incident in Afghanistan (incidentally and of course accidentally) by Americans. It's politics, not hockey, and it's clearly not reflective of all Canadian hockey fans so, Grant, please remove your head from your rear end.

The women playing in this tournament are exceptional athletes, regardless of their political affiliation. Let's please find some high ground, leave the nasty remarks, and watch/appreciate the product on the ice.

I don't know about everyone, I sure as hell believe the whole alleged event was a complete fabrication based on interviews with the US players.

Afraid I don't share that confidence.

Gee...wonder why they'd rebroadcast that repeatedly at this particular time?

I'm sure they'll pull the video out of the archives and dust it off in 2014 too. Like I said...classy motivation tool.

OK Dad...sorry Grant.:)

"U.S. women's hockey team exonerated in flag dispute
Posted: Monday February 25, 2002 10:09 PM

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Members of the U.S. women's hockey team did not desecrate a Canadian flag at the Salt Lake City Olympics, American and Canadian hockey officials said Monday after a joint investigation.

Canada beat the United States 3-2 for the women's hockey gold medal on Feb. 21. After the game, Canadian players said they were angered that American players stomped on a flag in their locker room.

U.S players repeatedly and vehemently denied the rumor.

On Monday, USA Hockey, based in Colorado Springs, and the Canadian Hockey Association issued a joint statement saying U.S. players had committed no "acts of disrespect" against the flag.

"This is a case of false information being circulated by an unidentified third party," USA Hockey Executive Director Doug Palazzari said. "There is no question there is a healthy rivalry between the two teams, but there is also great mutual respect."

Canadian Hockey Association President Bob Nicholson said a joint investigation showed the rumor was false.

"We congratulate the U.S. team on a tremendous season and look forward to continuing our great relationship with USA Hockey," Nicholson said. "

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

The "friendly" competition between the US and Canada in the Olympics may be short lived. I read in another forum that the International Olympic Federation is thinking about dropping Womens Ice Hockey due to lack of International expansion/interest.

Boy, I would be p****d to play in that IM league.

I don't believe that she did anything wrong; the fault lies elsewhere.

I'm not saying she did. I just feel like the novelty of getting wrecked by an Olympic athlete would wear off in short order when I can't even keep the puck for 3 seconds before she takes it and scores.

Actually, the UMD IM league is mostly former MN high school players and very competitive. I'm sure she was challenged.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

In other news, Switzerland's goal against Canada was scored by UMaine freshman Darcia Leimgruber.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Does anyone know where to find the broadcast (tv or online) of tonight's Sweden v Slovakia game? I see nothing on any of NBC's networks for this game....

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Actually one more thing on the Flag deal. I apologize to anyone I offended through my ignorance on the subject, in hindsight it was insensitive of me to bring it up. I have removed the comment from my original post but understand I am still on record for saying what I said.

If you make a mistake, admit it, fix it and move on...that's at least, the way I roll.
