The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

2-1 Finland at 16:02. Michelle Karvinen driving hard to the net, skated all the way across the crease, waited for Grahn to go down, and put it past Grahn's right skate and in.
You are just too fast CD! How are you watching this? (I promise not to reveal to your boss)
Who said I'm at the office? No meetings today, so I'm working from home and have the TV on. :D

Agreeeeeeeed!!!!! Thanks so much.
I'm actually surprised WHKY Blogger isn't covering this on BYD, which is why I'm commenting here instead.

Finland going to their third PP just before the end of the second period. Sweden's Emilia Andersson to the box for the hook. But the period ends without any additional scoring. The penalty will carry over to the third. 2-1 Finland after two. Shots are 15-9 Finland.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

The game looked pretty even at the beginning, but Sweden is looking already like they're out of ideas. I wonder if it's time for a coaching change. Maybe it's their training. They play Finland quite a lot, so you'd think they'd be familiar with the Finns' playing style, but they just look like they're a step behind everything today. But it's a one-goal game going into the third, so it's still anybody's game.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

P.S. Fun to see Tuominen, Pelttari and Posa wearing their Bulldogs gloves, even if maroon and gold don't really go with blue and white.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Sweden ties it up with a Rundquist goal. 2-2 with 14 to go in the third.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

2-2. Pelttari hauls down Winberg and goes to the penalty box, and Danijela Rundqvist converts on the power play. Räty had made two saves, but couldn't stop the third attempt -- not enough Finland defenders to cover all the Swedish attackers. 14 minutes to go in the third.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

:D
And don't you just love Raty's Golden Gopher pads, catcher and blocker?:)

Yes, she's looking quite stylish. :D Any combination of maroon and gold looks good in Vancouver. Can't believe some of these ladies will be back here tomorrow to play the first round playoff games.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Still 2-2. Karvinen just missed a partially open net with 6:30 to go in the third.

Swedish penalty... Eliasson for holding with 5:49 to go. Finland to the power play.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Only one shot on goal on that PP for the Finns. Back to even strength. 2-2 with 3:32 to go in regulation.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Going to OT. It will be a 10 minute sudden death OT. I'm guessing that they're going to resurface, but not entirely sure.

EDIT: Nope, no resurface. Let's keep going.

FINLAND WINS! Saara Tuominen with the game winner on a great feed from Rantamaki. 3-2 FINAL at 2:33 of overtime.

Rantamaki waited and waited and waited and finally centered it. Replay shows that it may have gone off of Tuominen's skate, but it's going to stand.

Final shots: Finland 24, Sweden 18. Power-play: Finland 0 of 6; Sweden 2 of 5.
