The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Time to silence this partisan crowd, just like in the mens game the other night! :D  :D

OUCH! I'm still smarting over that lose....

But it was an outstanding game........I thought we got beat by a team that was more hungry.

Big one tonight Canada/Russia 7:30pm ET, a lazy boy, bowl of popcorn and a blue (maybe a couple blue's) and drop the puck, should be a classic........

Well, unlike the vast majority of Canadian fans in Vancouver, who robustly cheered for whoever was playing the U.S. women, I am rooting for the North American (Canadian) squad tonight, as I await the puck to drop against Russia (boo!).

Good luck to our friendly neighbor to the North!

Well, I now know where the Russian women learned to play defense.

Yeah, I think they have been reading Swiss Cheese for Dummies.

Yeah, but they really made the games interesting last night, cheering for the underdog teams. I'm sure Latvia thought they were playing a home game with the way the crowd was chanting and going ballistic each time they scored to come from behind and tie the game up.

Dunno about other games, but the Canadians have an affiniation with the Latvians based on a few recent tournaments. Well known fact up here in "hockey country".

Hopefully a US-Canuck final, so we have another crack at it.

Just wanted to wish all the teams today the best of luck. May your nervousness big small and your plays big. Have fun and enjoy the moment. You certainly have earned it!

The big one.

Not sure why delay naming goalie.
Plenty-P L E N T Y...of pressure (already) on Canada.

Canada looked unbeatable; as game time approaches, USA looking better and better and better and...

Canada a 5/0 win over Finland as USA wins 9/1 over former contender Sweden.

Canada (men) lose 5/3 to USA (men).

Home game; home team; home crowd E X P E C T A T I O N S for GOLD.

I might rather be in Philadelphia.

While your logic is hard to follow at times, like to add the Canucks are riding high after last nights dismantling of the Russians. One paper called it "CRUSSIA".

From my perspective there is a tremendous load of expectations on Team Canada this afternoon (and which could be added to by guessing as to who they might name as to their goalie which I felt might backfire...)

That is what I was attempting to convey-Principally, their men losing in a somewhat lackluster fashion to USA (in front of the largest crowd ever to watch any sporting event in Canada-as a measure of that 'interest'): Secondly, not a substantial win recently by Canada's women over Finland vis a vis USA winning 9-1 over Sweden (who had medaled in 2006) AND, finally and foremost, the huge, H U G E ( did I say H U G E ) pressure of defending their national game at home in the premier venue (Olympics) for sport in the world.

A wakeup last night, yes, against Russia by the Canadian men. But still the psych is hugely there: on Team Canada today (women) and again on Sunday (men.) THAT 'psych' makes whatever Team USA may have to offer seem bigger, more dangerous, less easily dispensed with, less likely to fold or collapse or...lose.

Believe it or not up until 1994, Lacrosse was recognized as Canada's National Sport. Today there are two. The National Sports of Canada Act recognizes Lacrosse as the country's National summer sport and (Ice) hockey as the National winter sport...just sayin.
