The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

With all the talent on Team Sweden would you just chalk this up to a coaching/program failure in not preparing at a high enough physical level for these games or would you think that it was more mental and not being jacked enough at the drop of the first puck (vs. Canada)?...which is not to imply that they would have won that game anyway, but maybe would have fared better. It will be interesting to see how they do vs. Finland who only united 2 or 3 weeks before the games.

Did I miss something? Did Canada already beat Finland, or are they yet to have played the game?

I don't know how you say "defense" in Swedish, but somebody needs to teach Peter Erlander that word.

Here is the full swedish report on this game:

Damkronorna fick storstryk
Av Kent Jönsson
Publicerad 22 februari 2010 21.20 | Uppdaterad 22 februari 2010 23.59

Jag går bara positiv in i bronsmatchen, sa Pernilla Winberg.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

After a pretty competitive start, Sweden faded badly in this game. The U.S. scored a couple, and Sweden began to lose their energy. By the 3rd, they had nothing left to give, or wanted to give, and it made for a pretty boring game.

I hope the U.S. doesn't repeat their 1st period against Canada. Someone being interviewed made a comment that they got out of their routine after the three days rest, and acknowledged that coach Johnson was not happy and he let the team know it.

The important thing now is they've got the game that they've worked so hard for. Hopefully they've saved their best for last!

I think the way Erlander explained it earlier was that while Sweden has improved since the last Olympics, the Canadians and Americans have improved, too. So no matter how much better Sweden might be today than in 2006, they're still way behind the USA and Canada. And the team was centralized...they've been playing together for months. You'd think things would've clicked, so I don't know what it is.

1-0 Canucks...Piper in the slot on a nice feed from Agosta who circled behind the Net to feed the incoming Piper.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

The Canadians are just bigger, stronger, and are beating the Finns to the puck. Hardly noticed that the Finns had a power play.

2-0 Canucks. Irwin cashing in on a rebound lying near the post after good work by the Sudbury duo of Johnston and Bonhomme to set it up.

AJ explained on the broadcast that the Swedes played teams from a division that wasn't at the caliber or level of the US or Canada while prepping for the Olympics. Thus she felt they were unprepared for the intensity and speed of this game and it showed. They wilted badly by the third period.

Canada is going to blow Finland's doors off unless the Finns turn it around fast. There is a real disparity between the level of play demonstrated by Canada and the US and the rest of the world. I don't see how Sweden improved based on what happened today and the game before against Canada.

Glad you liked the Headline.... :D

Essentially means that the Lady Kronors had a major meltdown.

Lead in part of the story talks about going from a major achievement in Turin to an embarrasment in Vancouver, showing that they are lagging far behind the Americans. It goes on that the team is now focussing their attention to win bronze.

3-0 Canucks. Bonhomme did the work again on the third goal. Agosta cashed in with a roofer from in close. It was on a 4 on 4.

Gotta give it to the Finns though. Raty looks phenominal to keep them in there.

If Raty plays like this against Sweden, they should come away with the bronze.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Raty aside, I think the Fins will defeate Sweden easily.....based on how Sweden played against the US and Canada, I don't see much game there.

It'll be like that Jimmy Buffett song! You know...

"Fins to the left, Fins to the right....." and you're the only Swede in town!

:D

4-0 Canucks. Second of the night for Irwin. Ivy Leagers Johnston and Vaillancourt the assists.

Getting ready for the much anticipated tilt on Thursday. :)
