The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Surely you aren't talking about Cunego...I know he's clean, he's got a tattoo that says so!

What does everyone think about tomorrow? Not a prologue (too long) but not really a full TT. You know Vino wants it...

No I was just talking about my Italians, Kazak, and Spanish riders. :)

Oh wait....

As for the Stage one, I'd guess Wiggins, but who knows how hard he will try.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

When my guys aren't doping....

From Cyclingnews:

...while Domenico Pozzovivo (Colnago-CSF Inox) was the first rider to crash on the slick roads....

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Yeah, me too! But I wasn't expecting him to win anyway, so conceding a minute (right now) isn't that big a deal...At least the Gazzetta feed isn't bad.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Nice win today for Wiggins. And a surprise 2nd place for the American Bookwalter from BMC.

Not a bad performance for my team, with Evans, Vino, and Henderson finishing in 3rd/4th/5th.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Universal is charging for coverage? Did they charge last year, I can't remember if I paid or not. And if they're charging, are they archiving the live coverage so you can watch it complete later in the day, like after you get done working? I'm not gonna pay until I find out for sure that there are archives, since I won't be able to see more than a couple of stages if they're not.

Right now, I'm watching on RAI television, in Italian. Bunch of links to coverage of cycling here

Farrar has crashed on one of the center islands in the road. And now Wiggins has gone down.

A Cofidis rider, Blot(?) crashed earlier, and from the way he was acting,. looked like he'd done quite a number on the family jewels.

Switched, the Gazzetta video is much better quality.

Wow, what a crash.
Pozzato appears to be the one most affected, but he finally gets back on his bike and continues.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

At least Wiggins and Sastre are off the back because of the crash...Cunego too!

ETA:

Farrar wins ahead of Greipel...and Sabatini...Not Greipel but Goss. And Sastre loses 35 seconds.

And the final edit of this post...Evans in Pink!

Vino is up there though.
Changes in the GC coming after today's stage...

Farrar wins the stage!
Henderson was up there too...

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Was that Goss in 2nd and not Greipel?
Yep...Farrar, Goss, Sabatini, then Greipel

Evans takes over the Pink from Wiggins.

Stage
1 Tyler Farrar (USA) Garmin-Transitions
2 Matthew Goss (Aus) Team HTC-Columbia
3 Fabio Sabatini (Ita) Liquigas-Doimo
4 Andre Greipel (Ger) Team HTC-Columbia
5 Alessandro Petacchi (Ita) Lampre-Farnese Vini
6 Chris Sutton (Aus) Sky Professional Cycling Team
7 Robbie McEwen (Aus) Team Katusha
8 Graeme Brown (Aus) Rabobank

GC
1 Cadel Evans (Aus) BMC Racing Team
2 Tyler Farrar (USA) Garmin-Transitions
3 Alexandre Vinokourov (Kaz) Astana

Good day for my team getting 1st, 2nd, and 4th in the sprint and then having 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the GC.
Farrar could take over the Maglia Rosa tomorrow with another strong performance.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Thor Hushovd broke his collarbone today in a training accident; ran into a little girl crossing the road.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Well that was an exciting last few K! HTC never really got control and Sky caught the break way to soon. Then there was the crash(es) and a wacky turn inside the last K. Anyway, here is tomorrow's profile:

______________________________

So assuming HTC gets it right, and there are no echelons, always a chance on the Dutch coast, it should be Greipel.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Quite the cash filled stage today hope tomorrow is better. My team isn't looking so hot so far.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

More crashes today, with another new leader, as Evans lost time.
Vino is the new race leader.
Wouter Weylandts takes the win today.
Big shakeups in the GC, as riders were filing in for some time after the leaders, looks like Wiggins lost almost four minutes.
Who else lost big time?

Could be that <GASP> LA was right about the conditions of the race last year?

Or are these guys just riding like fools?

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Today's stage definitely shook up the GC picture:

1 Alexandre Vinokourov (Kaz) Astana 10:07:18
4 Vincenzo Nibali (Ita) Liquigas-Doimo 0:00:05
8 Linus Gerdemann (Ger) Team Milram 0:00:12
9 Stefano Garzelli (Ita) Acqua & Sapone 0:00:15
12 Vladimir Karpets (Rus) Team Katusha 0:00:17
14 Ivan Basso (Ita) Liquigas-Doimo 0:00:18
24 Cadel Evans (Aus) BMC Racing Team 0:00:43
43 Carlos Sastre Candil (Spa) Cervelo Test Team 0:01:40
50 Damiano Cunego (Ita) Lampre-Farnese Vini 0:02:07
55 Bradley Wiggins (GBr) Sky Professional Cycling Team 0:04:28

Vino now has a decent lead on many of the other big name contenders...with Evans 43 sec back and Sastre 1:40 back. Basso is the closest of the pre-race favorites.
Should be interesting with the TTT on Wed (after a rest/travel day tomorrow). That should shake things up even more.
VandeVelde continues to have horrible luck in the Giro. Just like last year, he crashes out early, this year with a broken collarbone.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Good quote from cyclingnews:

"It was a little bit dangerous [in the finale]," said Weylandt afterwards, referring to the last left-hand corner before the finish line. "I was thinking Greipel would go for it there so I immediately went through the middle of the corner." The tactic worked and Weylandt got the jump necessary to hold off Brown, who incidentally inherited the sprint classification lead.

Greipel was visibly angry following the stage, and took out his rage on the stage winner. “You didn't do anything at all, you rotten dumb-ars,” he said and threatened the Belgian with his fist, complaining that the Quick Step rider had not participated in the work in the front group.

Weylandt shrugged off the incident, saying, “He said a few nasty words to me, but he can't blame me for anything."
