The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Haven't been there for a long time, but try this section. They may already have the season long stuff going on, for the major tours, they usually get something together in the weeks before it starts.

http://www.podiumcafe.com/section/virtual-directeur-sportif

Also, scroll down the left side of the page for the top ten VDS teams, and also click on the VDS jersey image to see the whole standings. You may need to sign up for an account to see everything, but it's free.

Thanks for the help. I wasn't sure what VDS stood for. Thought it was some sort of venereal disease. :D

http://podiumcafevds.com/

It doesn't look like Podium Cafe has a separate Giro or Vuelta competition...just the year-long one and a Tour one:

The deadline for submitting a team for the year-long competition is February 26, 2010. We will also have a separate competition for the Tour de France; look for details in June.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I'll offer to run the scoring like Brian did last year, if you all can come up with the starting values.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I'd help fill in the values, but I haven't seen anything even close to a complete startlist yet.

ETA: Since this is a hockey board, in Romandie today, Katusha rider Artem Ovechkin is on the attack, and listed simply as A. Ovechkin! Now that he's out of the playoffs, Ovie really gets around!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

If we would rather go that route instead of a website, I can post on here what I used last year during the Vuelta for points values...

I'm OK with either solution. Just like George, I think I could have it automated by the Tour de France.

If anyone wants to assign point values to riders that would be a big challenge as well.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I'm OK with either solution as well, the most difficult part is that we still don't have complete start lists so assigning point values is tough, plus isn't assigning the values kind of what we are trying to do anyway?

I did some more poking around the cylingfever website I posted earlier, it is free and you can create your own groups. However it seems a little more involved that the old velogames site. That is to say that you select 25 riders and can change your daily roster each day, though it does basically select your daily team for you (your top riders) if you miss a day.

Just found this as a startlist, far from complete, but a start...

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

We going to do the Tour of California as well or just the Giro? Giro coverage starts Sat on Unisport.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Pellizotti confirmed as out for the Giro due to the Bio-passport. At awaiting word on 5 others, one Italian (not riding the Giro), 2 Spaniards, a Russian, and a Slovene.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

This Saturday? Wow, time's flying.

Is the Tour of California overlapping with the Giro schedule?

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Read that The Shack will not be riding the Giro. I know it would be a B team but as a Pro Tour team aren't they supposed to ride all 3 of the Grand Tours? Interesting that Vandevelde is riding the Giro as opposed to the Tour of California. Quite a few strong riders beside Pellizotti seem to be taking the year off as neither Geesink or Menchov are off Rabobank's team Ceramica Flaminia Riccardo Riccò's team wasn't invited, no Cav, Martin or Rogers from Columbia HTC. Though it does look like both Evans for BMC and Wiggins for Sky will ride. Looks like Greipel, Petacchi and Frere will be the top sprinters.

According to the Versus commercials Andy Schleck will be riding the Tour of California.

Probert, they changed the rules a few years ago with the ProTour v. ASO/UniPublic/RCI arguments. Not all ProTour teams need to ride the "Historic" races. Anyway, don't be surprised at the startlist, the Giro is, or at least until the last few years, an Italian thing. This is actually one of the better startlist, internationally, they've had. VdV and Wiggins don't count as they aren't riding for the GC, but you've got Evans, Vino, Basso, Cunego, Scarponi, Sastre, (now) Nibili, and a bunch of top sprinters. The tour is the tour and I think that guys like Schleck, Menchov, et al. planned there season around the tour this year. Remember what happened to Menchov last year after winning the Giro...

Should be awesome, I read the cyclingnews preview and the mountains are crazy!

Also I'll look at the startlist and try and get to work on evaluating the riders...

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Yes.

ToC: May 16-23

Giro: May 8-30

That's just stupid. What were the TOC organizers thinking?

It was soooo perfect having it so early in the season, riders from all over got to come to the US and train in sunny(well, most of the time) California, instead of dreary Belgium and France.

What riders, if given the choice, are gonna choose riding the TOC over the Giro? Besides his Lanceness, of course.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

This is a real quick effort at ranks and classifications. I'm not loving it but it is a start...
