The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

That really was a great race! It highlighted why I love the classics good aggressive racing (the winning move was made 40K from the end) with the two strongest men in the race deciding it!

Looking forward to the Hell this weekend too! I think Tommeke finds a way to reverse the finish order but still Boonen and Spartacus should be 1 and 2.

Also, the Cobra is back!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Chris Horner won the last stage time trial in the Tour of the Basque Country, which gave him the overall, edging out Valverde, and giving team Rat Shack their biggest win to date.

Paris Roubaix coverage on Cycling.tv is about to start. Paid my money for the season package. Three hours of coverage tonight on Versus starting at 6PM, so I won't spoil anything.

You will be glad to know that my son has a minimum ten page paper due tomorrow for his English class and he chose to do it on the history of the Tour de France. He's at 15 pages now. I made sure in the section on the different jerseys he added the thrill of winning the Lanterne Rouge.

We will be watching Paris - Roubaix tonight.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Carl, I'm in the middle of reading 60+ research papers and no paper on the TdF, which is disappointing.

As to the morning in Hell, with out spoiling anything, I'll simply say:

WOW! Unreal ride.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Can't wait to see the ride tonight.

I have to say when he was told he had to do a research paper my wife and I told him to do it on a subject he knew. He has to do an oral presentation with it which he better nail - and he better make sure to use the lingo.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Have been watching the versus coverage of the races so far and watching today's race - have to say I love college hockey, but **** I love watching the cycling.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Great win by Fabian in the "He** of the North". I was amazed after he went that they couldn't pull him back. Granted he's Cancellara but there were 12-14 guys in a group behind him, then it went 20 seconds, 40 seconds, a minute, minute and a half, two minutes up to three phenomenal win. Think he has almost single handily found Saxo Bank a new sponsor next year.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Awesome to see Horner win the Basque Country tour on the TT over Valverde.
He's on great form again this year, hopefully he can avoid the injury bug this year.

American HTC rookie Tejay Van Garderen is in 2nd place in the Turkey tour, great result thus far for him.

Castilla y Leon just started today too. Contador is going for his 3rd time winning that, but it should be a good race with riders like Menchov, Mosquera, Bruseghin, Anton, etc there. Maybe Machado from Radioshack can continue his great early season.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Anton wins today in a mountaintop finish at the Castilla y Leon over an elite group of Contador, Mosquera, and Soler. A short 15km ITT tomorrow with Anton having a 13sec lead over Contador in the GC. Can Anton hang on? My guess would be no. :)

Greipel is a winning machine right now. He wins another at the Turkey Tour.
I wouldn't mind seeing him and Cav square off in a Grand Tour. :D

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Probert,

I think that Universal will have the Giro again, as last year. I'd love to see Gibo win the Pampaego stage in Trentino this week but I don't see it happening. Gibo was one of the first of my cycling heroes, along with Cipo, sad to see him go.

Trentino should be good this week. Two MTFs in 4 stages, big names (Basso, Ricco, Vino, Rujano... (hey all "reformed" dopers)) just looks like a great race.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Watching live video of Fleche Wallone on Flemish tv courtesy of steephill.tv, while listening to the english commentary on Cycling.tv.

I love the internets. :D

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Contador makes a move on the Mur de Huy, quickly followed by A. Schleck, chasing down a group af about 8 just a handful of seconds ahead.

Now, both Sclecks and Contador, Tamkink, Lokvist, and some others going over the top.

Now, F. Schleck makea a move, followed by Kreuziger, Loosli, and Tamkink, just sort of rode off, and saw they had made a split, and then kept going.

28K left to go.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Astana working to pull it back, 20k left.

Gesink punctures and has to be paced back to the group. 18k left, 30 second gap.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Short, steep, narrow Mur de Ref climb, and the gap has dropped to 17 seconds.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Ivanov makes a go from the group.

Over the top of the climb, 11k left.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Ivanov caught by Hyjesdahl and a Lampre rider, and now pack all back together.

Gap back up to 22 seconds. Attacks from the group, but no one getting away. heading back to the Mur de Huy for the final climb.

And now 11 seconds for three chasers.

Chasers, including Anton and Kolodnev have caught the front group. 4k to go.

Kolodnev attacks approaching the Mur.

Rest of the leading group are caught by the pack.

Valverde makes an attack, they catch Kolodnev. Maybe a group of fifty left.
