The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Specialized was putting on a demo, so I rode an $8800 S-Works Epic last night at a local mountain bike trail. It was clearly nicer than my car and a pretty significant upgrade to my '90s Pro-Flex.

Any recommendations for a lower priced option with full suspension and disc brakes?

:D

With how far the technology has advanced in mtb suspension, I'm pretty sure anything would be an upgrade from your Pro-Flex. ;)

Do you ever ride over at Lebanon? Probably my favorite singletrack for mtb...

Like how much? Confined to Specialized? Do you want the Brain shock?

Cheapest with the Brain is the Stumpjumper Expert, around $3300. If you don't want the Brain, then the Comp is about $2200, or you could try one of the Stumpjumper FSR XC's, even cheaper.

Trek Fuel EX 5 or 7 should both be under 2 grand.

Lebanon is only a few miles from my house, so I'll probably ride 10-20 times this year assuming I don't crash again.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Interesting that after getting him to postpone his retirement Oscar Perrerio is left off the Astana team for the Tour.

With only 3 mountain top finishes, 1 time trail, excepting the prologue and no team time trial it looks like the tour organizers would like to keep the race close.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Schlecks to move to new pro team based out of Luxembourg next season.

Is this a Luxembourg based sponsor basically taking over Team Saxo Bank, I thought they were pulling out of sponsoring cycling, or a completely different team?

It's a whole new team...Saxo is still looking for a new title sponsor.

I really like the Giant Trance X. Decent component spec options, nice suspension feel regardless of gear choices. Climbs really well. A friend of mine got the full carbon version (way overkill), I have an X0 that I won in a raffle, I'd have been just about as happy with an X2.

Demo'd a Felt Compulsion the other day. Definitely worth considering as well. This time of year, just keep your eyes peeled for demo days and get what feels best to you. All our opinions are just that.

If you plan on spending over $1500, regardless of brand, you'll get nice bike.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Apologies if this was already talked about or posted here...but Team Radioshack has announced its nine-man roster for the TdF.

Lance Armstrong
Andreas Kloden
Levi Leipheimer
Chris Horner
Jani Brajkovic
Sergio Paulihno
Yaroslav Popovych
Gregory Rast
Demitriy Muravyev

Chechu Rubiera and Zubeldia left off as well as Rosseler and Steegmans.

Once again, I really only follow this sport closely during the Tour. Any surprises and how good/bad is this team?

No surprises, LL, AK Popo, and Horner are there to "slave" for Armstrong. (Yes, that's a quote, slave) Jani was "supposed" to lead RS in some race in Spain that they didn't get invited to(discussed up thread), and so was rushed into the Tour team, probably the 4th/5th/6th man left in the group...Paulihno is reasonably competent in all areas, though isn't really a pure mountain goat, Rast and Muravyev are roulers likely specifically for stage 3. Zubeldia is hurt (broken wrist) Rubieria isn't, well, I don't think he is good enough. Steegmans is, as mentioned before, a sprinter who isn't likely to "slave." I'm a big Rosseler fan, and he'd be on my Tour squad, especially with stage 3, but I guess the Hog thinks that Rast and Muravyev are better.

Overall, probably the 3rd strongest team, in my opinion (Liquigas and Saxo), but not enough to overcome the weakness at the top. They are my pick for the prestigious "Team Classification." They aren't good enough over the pave to force a split and I think that the last man/men in line aren't stronger the the corresponding men in Saxo (F. Schleck/Fulgsang), Liquigas (Kruetzinger/Basso) or Asana (Vino). They shouldn't have any problem keeping His Yellowness out of trouble but also can't cause enough problems...

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Juan Mauricio Soler will not race the tour for Caisse D'espargne hasn't recovered from crashing out of the Dauphine.

My Tour picks

Podium

1. Contador 2. A. Schleck 3. Evans I think one of the young Liquigas guys Kreuziger more likely than Nibali will finish pretty high and could surprise.

Polka Dot jersey Robert Geesink I think Egoi Martinez will probably be his stiffest competition with both Soler and David Mountcoutie out.

Green Jersey Three horse race with Farrar, Hushvod and Cav, while Pettachi is racing this year I doubt he will finish and I also have my doubts whether or not Cav will finish. Cavendish

White Jersey obviously A Schleck

Lanterne Rouge Christophe Kern

My prediction for his Lanceness 7th place.

Nibali isn't racing the Tour this year. Kreuziger could give Basso some competition though for team leadership. Hard to say if Basso can ride as strongly as he did in the Giro. Some riders have difficulty riding well in both in the same year.

Liquigas for Tour de France: Ivan Basso (ITA); Roman Kreuziger (CZE); Sylwester Szmyd (POL); Franco Bellotti (ITA); Kristjan Koren (SLO); Aliaksandr Kuchynski (BLR); Daniel Oss (ITA); Manuel Quinziato (ITA); Brian Vandborg (DEN)

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I hope they manage to find a way to attack Contador, but I'm guessing he will be way too strong. Even if he gets isolated, what are they going to do? Pedal away from him, I doubt it.

I'm hoping Lance loses enough time early in the race they let him get away near the end and he wins a stage. Then he can re-retire and hopefully they will spice up the Tour route someday.

It sounds like Lance is already saying this will be his final Tour:

Not sure if he is planning on re-retiring or just not riding the Tour again.

BTW, I'm jealous that you are so close to Lebanon. I'd be over there 3 times a week. :)

I missed the Liquigas announcement I wanted to pick Sagan for my Velogames team guess I will have to find somebody else.
