The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

So I'm getting ready to commit to doing an endurance road race next year from the Wyoming/South Dakota border to the South Dakota/Minnesota border, in which you have 48 hours to complete it.

I'm still working out how to train for it.

Rig a big sail and hope for a west wind.

Use a hidden bike engine, like Fabian Cancellara:

First time I've seen that, pretty crazy seeing him accelerate away from riders like that while in the saddle the whole time.
Fabian dopes using motors!! :)

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

George posted the results. Rufus takes the Giro! Brian clearly wins the points jersey with his sprinters.

See you guys in France.

Nice job rufus and sagard with the 1-2!

I knew that my team would start to fall down the standings once the sprinting stages were done and Sastre didn't do anything in the mountains. :)

This story was on Drudge today, in addition to the link to the You Tube video it has a link to this story with http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100603/ap_on_sp_ot/cyc_mechanical_doping_1 the Cofidis manager saying all teams should be checked to make sure their bikes are legal. maybe if Cofidis riders started using them they would be able to keep up. :D

Hey Cofidis has had a decent season, for them, so far! Stages and the overall at Etoile Besseges and Jen Keukeleire has had an outstanding season and looks to be a very promising young rider.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Brajkovic is holding strong in the Dauphine, sticking with several Contador attacks on the Alpe today. Contador definitely isn't 100% yet, but Brajkovic looked smooth on the bike and stayed with him...he looks to have the GC locked up now.

In the Suisse Tour, Cancellara wins the opening TT today as well. I bet his bike was checked over more than usual. ;)

For those who don't know Versus is doing daily Tour de Suisse coverage. I wonder why. ;)

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I dunno how Cav can try to say he wasn't 100% responsible. He pretty much just assumed that he had passed everyone and went wherever he wanted on the road with his head down. He is a professional cyclist, he should be able to manage to ride in a straight line, even at a full sprint.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Also interesting to note the Retirement Shack did NOT get invited to ride the Vuelta.

I really don't understand the meaning for this they are very unlikely to get any of the oldsters; Lance, Levi, Kloden or Horner unless one crashes out of the tour earlier but a team with Brajkovic, Machado, Zubelia and Popo certainly would not be a push over. i agree with their decision to not invite BMC as they more than likely would not get Evans to ride.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Given Zubeldia's injury, I think he would be the teams leader at the Vuelta, had RS gotten the nod, which could have been interesting. Also interesting to note that the Shack's "B" team at the Dauphine was far more exciting than their "A" team promises to be anywhere.

But I'd point out that The Hog made little secret of the fact that the two goals of RS were Le Tour and ToC. Then when the announcement was made he tweeted that they were excluded by "a race in Spain." What I'm driving at is that he NEVER showed the Unipublic the respect that it deserved. Especially given the way Astana treated the Giro last year, I'm not surprised they didn't get the invite. I wish that Vacansol had been invited, it was a real shame after the Vuelta they rode last year not to get a GT ride anywhere. Same with Skill. Frankly, I'm not sure who I'd uninvite. I guess SKY. I'd rather see ISD and both Dutch teams before RS.

Finally another great wreck in the TdS today...Lotto ride hydroplaned at about a 45 degree angle into the crowd.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Kirchen hospitalized after stage 7 of the Tour of swiutzerland after collapsing at his hotel. Suspected heart attack.

I'm gonna say there's no way this involves doping. 30-something world class athletes have heart attacks all the time.

I'm the Wisconsin State Road Race champ for Cat 3. :)

And, I did it without doping...unless you count excessive amounts of Mt Dew as doping products. ;)

Congratulations ! It was that motorized bike wasn't it. ;)

Geesink fell all the way to 5th in the Tour De Suisse today as his Lanceness finished second and Frank Schleck with a good TT won the race. Wonder if Frank will be CSC team leader for the tour as Andy has not looked impressive this year.

Also before the Tour de Suisse coverage Versus had a Tour de France Pyrenees special. I expected it to be a Lance's greatest hit show but it was a pretty good, as good as a 1/2 hour can be, retrospective on 100 years of TDF stages in the Pyrenees 1910-2010. Only 2-3 minutes of it was on Lance, interesting to see the riders climbing with their tires over their shoulders. Also they showed an interview with a guy who participated in the first ride in 1910 whose bike broke in the descent and he had to carry the bike down the mountain and find a blacksmith to repair the fork. Despite this he finished 24th four hours back.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

The Tour is right around the corner now!
Teams are starting to announce their Tour rosters...

Cervelo, Lotto, and Euskaltel have released their starting nine.
Is Velogames going to be operational for the Tour too? ;) :)

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

That sounds like a blast! Congrats.

What is the average speed on a race like that?

Thanks man!

I don't remember what the exact avg was, but we finished the 54mile race in a bit over 2 hours, so it was probably right around the 25-26mph range. The field stayed together for the most part, and there are some good downhill sections, which both contributed to a faster pace. The only decent climb was leading right into the finish.
