The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

You really think stats and facts are going to make him shut up?

I doubt GVSU murdering NMU on Halloween will shut him up.

Probably not, but its sure as heck a little easier to stomach arguing with his homer butt than with some of the "Fire Chuck Martin" voices over on GVF. Cripes!!! Its his first regular season loss since 2004.

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

I'm not even convinced that GV is going to beat Findlay this weekend...

Monster, do you know why NMU doesn't play the non-conf game? Is it a budget thing?

It's family weekend/band day at NMU when we play Hillsdale. It should be close to a sellout which will add to our homefield advantage. I am appalled that the community isn't supporting this tremendous season that NMU is having.

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

Ummm... GVSU lost to a currently two loss Hillsdale squad that scored in the last minute on them. NMU lost in the season opener to a currently 3 loss Northwood team. On paper, GVSU has the better loss at the moment. Plus, GVSU has another win to their name than what NMU has. One of the perks of playing that one non-conference game that the GLIAC schedule allows you to have. 0.857 beats 0.833

This is all a moot point.

GV will end up with 2 maybe 3 losses this year, conversely NMU will only have the lone loss and a 9 game winning streak.:D

I am surprised that you don't feel the same way. He doesn't have the superstars that he's had the last few years. Don't you think his poor coaching skills are starting to show? Specifically his game management.

Any chance of getting Brian Kelly back? ;)

Have you been reading GVFootball.com lately?? :p

How the hell should I know why NMU didn't have a non-conference game?? Its not my school, you guys should be asking this questions. :p

True, Hillsdale is going to be on a shibby-eating grin all week with everybody telling them that they beat Grand Valley, and it all go to their heads quickly. A rocking dome and the Cats come out swinging for their chance at the GLIAC belt 2 weeks early, could be bad news for the Chargers.

No, I've never been to that site. Although I may check it out during NMU-GV week.

I stick to Uscho and D2football for my message boards.

Actually, for this weekend, we do have BK back on the sideline. Cincy has a Thursday night game against South Florida and then Kelly is coming to Grand Valley to be inducted into the Grand Valley Hall of Fame. We figure he's got a good pep talk or two for the Lakers, and hopefully, he might take Martin aside and preach the value of when its 3rd and 1 of not getting cute with a play and just lining up and letting your Oline get that one yard.

And for the record, 3 of 4 last games for GVSU are at Lubbers.

Maybe he can take over the reins this weekend...

I've looked at their schedule and it's one of the hardest for the rest of the season. They currently have one loss and possibly another vs. Findlay. NMU will be the best team that GV faces this season, and will likely get crushed by NMU's offense and defense. Two or three losses for GV seems very likely.

I still hold to my cautious optimism. NMU is playing very well at home this year, so Hillsdale and Indy shouldn't be too much of a problem. However, we're now going to face a p155ed off GVSU on their turf. Exciting game, for sure, and while the homer in me is saying one thing, the realist that remembers that GV is CONSISTENTLY in the top 5 in the nation is saying that NMU might hang with them, but GV will get the W in that one.

GV is not nearly as good this year as they are in years past.

They haven't played a team even remotely as good as NMU so far this year.

We will crush them on their own field!

Welcome to the Polls NMU. 23rd this week in the AFCA. This is the first time ever NMU has been ranked in this poll (Im not sure how recent this poll is, or maybe its just how bad NMU has been).

Regardless, we hit the big time.

Probably a little lower than we may have wanted considering how dominate we've been, but 23rd will have to do for now.

More importantly we ARE NOT ranked in the regional rankings for Super Region 3. Even more surprising is that if the season ended today SVSU and Wayne State would make the playoffs, as they are ranked 5th and 6th in the region. For those keeping score at home, NMU beat both of those teams and both of those teams have 2, losses! ***!!!!

With that being said, NMU has ZERO chance of making the playoffs unless we win out.

This is starting to remind me of our hockey teams...always the last one left out.

I think the biggest surprise is that GVSU losses it's first conference game since 2004 and they drop all the way to 9th in the region.

NMU not being in the regional rankings while two teams they beat are sort of proves how they really haven't played anybody. Without having played much of anybody the loss to Northwood has killed the Wildcats.

Its far more telling in how that the two waynes in the region, only moved a place each in the region. Wayne State-Nebraska lost to Bemidji saturday and moved up a spot, while Wayne State-Detroit only slid down a spot. Right now, everybody's SOS and other factors that are used for the rankings are all very close.

Hey, we're gonna have a winning record. You've already surpassed my expectations. Anything beyond that is just frosting on my cupcake.

Typical NMU fan...

I expect nothing short of the playoffs each and every year for our football and hockey teams. Being mediocre just doesn't cut it in my book. If that's how you view life, then enjoy being stuck in your 40k a year dead end job once you enter the real world.

SOS is killing us right now. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it. We have to play the teams on the schedule. On the bright side, 3 out of our last 4 games are against teams fighting for 1st place in the Gliac. That should certainly help out a lot.

Or realist? Excuse me for not being Little Miss Homer here. I'm not saying I'm thrilled, I'm just being realistic here.
