The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

Yeah, I should have checked that, I thought they had identical records.

I just quickly looked at CN's website and their football facilities look tremendous. I can't see how ESPN would have any problems broadcasting the game there.

They just redid their stadium a year or two ago I believe. ESPN probably could do a game there, but they've already been to Lubbers and they have a good idea of what they need there. They would have to bring in their own lights for Lubbers, as the HD camera's really like having lots of light, even when its daylight. CN just might not have the right power hookups for ESPN trucks and equipment there and they would need to bring in their own generators. And like I said, ESPN can just send their crew from the MAC championship game on Friday to Allendale on Saturday, so that saves them a little money right there.

Either way, GVSU has the home game, but I was really hopeing that we would get the late game, as I'm stuck in class saturday and won't be able to make the 3:30 kickoff. I'll be lucky to be able to catch the last quarter of the game at a bar.

Actually, Cal has hosted 2 semifinals for 2 years. Last year it was a case of a 1 seed from the Northeast getting to host a 2 seed from the Northwest. The seeds are not the end all be all things when it comes down to who gets to host the semi's, but it is a factor the committee considers.

Well, Isaac Odim's bid for a Harlon Hill award has come to an end this year, as he didn't get an invite down to Alabama this year. He should be a frontrunner for the award next year however. Congrats to Joique Bell of Wayne State for being one of the 3 invited to the Ceramony, and IMHO, should win the award.
Harlon Hill final three

Also, in other news, Nebraska-Omaha lost the first ever Kanza Bowl yesterday 31-25 to West Texas A&M.

This just came through on my Twitter feed (via NMU Cat Chat), and I thought it was interesting. Since I didn't want to start a new thread, I thought I'd just bump this and put it here.

GLVC Establishes Timeline for Football Sponsorship

Yep, and I believe that U of Indy has made it offical that LSSU's Football team is leaving the GLIAC as well. ;)

A non-conference matchup that should be of some interest next season. MSU-Mankato and Northern Michigan are going to be playing a game next season. I believe its a 2 year deal, with Northern going to Minnesota this fall and with Landcows going to the Dome in 2011.

That's very interesting. I wonder what sparked this idea.

I think it's very promising to see that NMU landed a non-conference game... I believe our last non-conference game was when we got curbstomped by Northern Iowa, an FCS team in 2003... Can't remember when our last D-II nc game was...

Trying to take the football team to the next level. Teams that have the best shot at the playoffs play 11 games, this is something that we've trying to do for years.

NMU is expecting to make the playoffs next season and if they can beat a top team from a strong division it will certainly help our chances.

Its not the 11th game that helps you Billy, its the bump in your strenght of schedule numbers that will help get you into the playoffs. Given that Mankato has made the playoffs the past 2 years, they should end the year with a winning record, which will help your SOS. Also, you guys get to avoid the two new schools that are coming into the League, so you guys should be helped out a little there. An 8-3 record should get you guys into the playoffs, and 9-2 should have you hosting a game.
