Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!
Slightly overlooked here, but UNO is going Bowling. Granted, its just to the Kanza Bowl in Topeka, KS, which pits the best team in the MIAA against the best team in the LSC, that both don't make the playoffs, but it does give you a few extra weeks to practice, and start figuring out things for next year's campaign. All in all, you're doing better than everybody else who's sitting at home with all of their gear turned in.
Any who, the playoff scores....
Fayetteville State 13
California (20) 42
- About what I expected here. The CIAA just ain't that good, and Cal has been to a few rodeo's before.
Edinboro 31
East Stroudsburg 16
- Special teams came up big for the Scots in this upset win.
West Alabama 24
Albany State (21) 22
- Was an intriguing match-up. Albany State was the second best program in the SIAC, and West Alabama only got into the playoffs with a shocking upset of North Alabama the week before, and from what I've seen of the math, it was DAMMN!! close to them still not making it in. If only Tuskegee participated in the playoffs... But I digress.
UNC Pembroke (15) 13
Arkansas Tech (22) 41
- Pembroke is still pretty much a start up program that's playing as a D2 independent and should be congratulated just on making it to the playoffs. The Wonder Boys of Tech still make short work of the Braves.
Abilene Christian (16) 24
Midwestern State (8) 21
-Another case of Special team paying off here.
Final OT
Hillsdale (13) 27
Minnesota State (10) 24
- A field goal in Overtime was the difference in this game. Guess we won't get to see the MSU-UMD Gridiron battle that a lot of NSIC fans wanted to see this year.
Saginaw Valley (9) 20
Nebraska-Kearney (6) 35
- A tale of two halves for Saginaw Valley. Controlled most of the first half, but didn't do much offensively in the second half, and the wheels came off the wagon in the 4th for the Cardinals.
Final OT2
Tarleton State (12) 57
Texas A&M-Kingsville (17) 56
- Nope, thats not a basketball score, thats a football score. More evidence that they don't play Defense down there in the LSC. Also of note, Tarleton State kicked a 64 yard field goal to force the first OT.
