The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

Bemidji State destroys the University of Minnesota-Crookston 45-6 setting up a big game next week when the Beavers host UMD. Not sure the last time BSU has defeated UMD, but I think it's been awhile.

So, I made it to the game. NMU had their moments where they looked great, and they had their moments that they looked like the same old Wildcats. All in all, it was a very entertaining game.

The Zone D couldnt stop anything from Hillsdale. Couldnt stop the run, and that set up the over the middle pass in the zone defense. Plus #81 is tall.

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

I'm kinda perplexed as much as what you NMU fans are. I thought Hillsdale was ripe to get beat, coming off of a huge win and then going to one of the harder venues to play at in the league, and long bus trip, that all should have played into the Wildcats hands. Now, looks like all HC has to worry about is beating Wayne State and they're in the playoffs. And if they can somehow figure out how to get one of their games canceled against either Ferris or Tiffin, they should be hosting a first round game.

I am still flabbergasted that the Mavericks are actually good. They are putting up a lot of freakin' points!

A little late on this...

Beard gets chance at head coaching job while MSUM has Tomeo on paid leave

Joel Beard is getting his first chance at being a college football head coach, but it’s not the way he wanted to get his first shot at leading a program.

Beard was named interim head coach at Minnesota State Moorhead last Friday after head coach Damon Tomeo was placed on paid administrative leave.

“I didn’t think it would come this quick and I wish it was under different circumstances, and to that it’s kind of bittersweet,” said the 32-year-old Beard. “The opportunity itself is an awesome opportunity. I honestly think if it was under different circumstances, it would probably be a little bit better.”

Tomeo’s status with the football program is in limbo. MSUM officials confirmed earlier this week that a complaint was lodged against Tomeo and that complaint remains unresolved at this point.

Beard has four years of experience as a college assistant. Beard was a wide receivers coach at the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 2002. This is his third year at MSUM.

Beard has six years of prep experience, including two seasons as a high school head coach.

Beard has been MSUM’s offensive coordinator since the 2007 season.

The Dragons (2-5, 1-5 NSIC) play at No. 8-ranked Minnesota State Mankato (7-0, 6-0) at 1 p.m. Saturday in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tilt. That game will be Beard’s second as interim coach.

Yep, and barring them losing, I really don't see them slipping from the one spot in the region either. Getting the one seed in gurantees you a bye week and 2 home playoff games. Possiable to get a 3rd home game for the Semi's, but this year, the SuperRegion 3 winner plays the SuperRegion 2 winner. And the most likely winner out of 2 is probably going to be North Alabama, who has looked **** Good this year. The best thing the Region 2 winner will have going for them in getting the bid to play the Semi's at home would be the fact that North Alabama would already have 2 playoff games on their grass, and the committee might want to give that field a chance to heal up a bit more as North Alabama is the Championship game host school, and the Committee would want that field looking good for ESPN. Word is next year they're putting in Field Turf there so they don't have to worry anymore about field conditions.

Well, it looks like NMU will have to win out to make the playoffs.

I only see them winning two more games this season, so hopefully next year will be "the year" of the Wildcat!

NMU still might get in at 7-3, but its going to be really close. Regardless, you guys really would really wish that you had that fourth quarter against Northwood back right now.

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

This weeks Regional Rankings....

Right now, Region 3 is a big crapshoot as to who's going to make it to the playoffs right now. About the only save bets there is Mankato and Duluth. Nebraska-Kearney would be my next guess because they can play the Earned access card and only need to finish in the top 8th in the region to make the playoffs instead of just the top six, as it looks like nobody else in their conference would be able to make it into the playoffs. After that, there's a bunch of GLIAC and NSIC squads looking to get in.

In region 4, it looks like UNO has lost their chances at making the playoffs again this year. Not without some serious help from the rest of the MIAA top teams crapping the bed. Central Washington having a loss wouldn't hurt UNO's chances either, but its too little too late now for the Mav's.

And in Region 1, looks like Bentley has the best shot of coming out of there from the Northeast-10. The CIAA winner might have to use EA themselves to get into the playoffs, but EA can only bump a school from a conference that already has a team in the playoffs, so expect the victim to be from the PSAC there.

But again, there's still 3 more weeks until this poll actually means anything. Crazier stuff has happen. ;)

After seeing what GV did to Findaly I am hoping we can do the same.

I wish we could have the 3rd quarter back against Hillsdale too...

:-)

If we beat Findlay, lose to GV (in a close game) and then kill Indy do you really think we can get into the top 6? I guess I should be rooting for SVSU and Wayne State to keep winning since those are our quality wins.

somebody did some statisitical research on this last year, but over the past couple of years, its been shown that the week after a team plays GVSU is the other week they're the most likely to lose again. So you do have that going for the Wildcats. Problem is that you're down there in Ohio on Findlay's crappy field. They installed field turf there, but kept the big honking crown that they had there. Freaking A People, Ben Roughlessburger played his HS ball on that field, I'm sure he would have matched funds to get that sucker leveled out. Worst place to play in the GLIAC IMO.

Also, you'll probably want to cheer for whoever is playing Ashland for the next 3 weeks. Being that NMU doesn't play them this year, the more in league wins they get, the worse it does for NMU's SOS. And if Northwood can finish at .500, that would help out the Wildcats cause a lot. All they gotta do for that is just beat Ferris at home this weekend to pull that off.

So you're saying there's a chance!!!!:D

For the moment, with 3 more games to go, yes. Of course, both NMU and GVSU could **** the bed this weekend in Ohio and leave the both of us wondering what in the hell happened. :o

We play the Beavers in hockey this weekend, but I will definitely be rooting for them to win in football against UMD.

Actually, you might want the Bulldogs to win this game Billy. Right now its pretty likely that Mankato and Duluth will make the playoffs, even with a loss. Bemidji is in the hunt and a win here would really help them out. A third NSIC team in really hurts the possiablity of a third GLIAC team getting in. I really don't see the RMAC winner, either Nebraska-Kearney or Colorado Mines, slipping below 8th in the region, and if they finish 8th, they bump out the sixth team from either GLIAC or NSIC. I'm kinda hoping Bemidji wins here because that would help GVSU get the second seed in the region I think.

I was thinking the exact opposite!

GO BULLDOGS!!!
