The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

And who have we beat other than SVSU? Calm down... These rankings will change greatly over the next 6 weeks... If we are good enough and deserving, we will end up there anyways... Just take things one step at a time and worry about WSU...

OH MY GOD. HOW IN THE WORLD IS NORTHERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY NOT RANKED? WE BEAT TIFFIN, FERRIS STATE, SAGINAW VALLEY AND SOME OTHER SCHOOLS NOBODY CARES ABOUT. THIS IS A DISGRACE TO COLLEGE FOOTBALL IN GENERAL. NORTHERN NEEDS TO GET REAL ABOUT FOOTBALL AND FIRE BERNIE ANDERSON.

AND WHY ARE WE IN D-2 FOOTBALL? WE SHOULD BE IN 1-A OR FCS FOOTBALL. I DEMAND WE BE IN THE BIG TEN. INSTANT POWERHOUE ONCE WE FIND A NEW COACH. TIM TEBOW FEARS THE WILDCATS AND THE SUPERIOR DOME TURF. THE DOME IS EASILY THE BEST VENUE IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL, ANY LEAGUE. ITS EASILLY ACCESSIBLE, IF YOU DODGE THE DEER, PLENTY OF CONCESSIONS, AND THE YOOPER FAMOUS DOME DOGS. AND HOW MANY OTHER TEAMS HAVE THE WILDERNESS ON DISPLAY IN THEIR STADIUM? NONE I TELLS YOU.

START THE PETITION TO MOVE TO D-1 FOOTBALL STUDENTS. LETS PUT NORTHERN ATLETICS WHERE THEY BELONG. ON TOP OF THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL WORLD, BEATING MICHIGAN, OHIO STATE AND FLORIDA.

(Or we could just work on getting ranked in the Super Regionals for the first time in a long long time).

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

That is complete garbage! SVSU has 2 losses and one of them was to us! We beat them on their home field and we aren't even in the top 10 regionally? *** are these voters thinking?!?!

I think we will trounch Wayne State this weekend. Bell hasn't faced a defense like NMU's this year.

NMU 33
WSU 19
The Regional Rankings is all math BB. There's a couple different formula's that are factored together to get the list. How they're applied is about the only way the Human element gets into the selection process, but don't you really don't see that happening until they do the last lists and seed the playoffs. Most important number to worry about besides wins is Strength of Schedule. Which is the wins your opponents have not counting their games against your school. Northern has played 3 teams that together have 2 wins between them. Thats going to drag your SOS number way down. But you have some teams with more wins coming up, so your SOS number should get back up to around .500, as that happens in conference play. Best thing you can hope for besides going 8-2, is for the wheels fall off the bus in Ashland. Since NMU doesn't play AU, any win they get in league play hurts you a lot.

I get waaaaay to excited about my teams.

I'm probably the biggest homer when it comes to this. Are you familiar with BCON on the D2 board?
Young Man, I know BCON, I've Tailgated with BCON and I've even dranked with BCON at Cajun's, one of the most holy sites in the land of Division 2 football. You sir are no BCON.

Most of BCON's schick is just to get a rise out of people, thats how he gets his jollies.

Well, you guys are the oldest school to have won the D2 Football championship, before the game went to Florence, that has yet moved on to D1.

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

Upcoming games this weekend.

Friday night at 7pm.
Southern Connecticut @ Bentley
-The Falcons need a win here to stay in the playoff hunt. Right now they're sixth, with no other NE-10 ahead of them, so as long as they're the top dog in the regional rankings from the NE-10 and finish at least 8th in the poll, they're in.

Saturday at Noon
American International @ New Haven
-With a win here AIC stands a good chance of finishing .500 or better this year, and would probably sink the restarted program of New Haven chances of being .500.

Gannon @ Mercyhurst
-The Battle of Erie! Two private schools that are not even 5 miles apart going at it for bragging rights.

1pm
Merrimack @ Assumption
- Merrimack needs a win here if they wanna make the playoffs. MC is actually ahead of Bentley in the NE-10 standings, and a win here along with Bentley beating Southern Conn. on Friday night would give the Warrior the lead in the NE-10 title race.

Findlay @ Michigan Tech
- Findlay needs a win here to stay in second place in the GLIAC. But they make the long trip up to the Kenenwaw this weekend, and could possibly be looking ahead to next week when they go to Allendale. Huskies got a big win in Grand Rapids last week against Ferris. Home cooking, especially the kind that Lake Superior can kick up weather-wise, and a little confidence doesn't hurt the Huskies chances here.

Wayne State (Mi.) (22) @ Northern Michigan 0
- Irresistible Force meets Immovable Object. Joique Bell and Wayne State comes to the Yooperdome to provide the Irresistible Force to meet the Immovable Object of the NMU Defense. For Northern to win this game, the Wildcat Offense needs to come up big and and help their defense out. Controlling the clock and finishing drives, and put Wayne down early, force the Warriors to need to throw it. A Tech win tomorrow would put the winner of this game in sole possession of second place in the GLIAC.

Pace @ Stonehill
- Two teams that pretty much just have pride on the line here.

2pm

Wayne State (Ne.) (11) @ Bemidji State
- Wayne State (NE) needs the win here if they wanna stay in the playoff hunt. But BSU winning this game would probably help out Mankato and Duluth more with SOS help as Mankato has already beaten WSC and Duluth doesn't face them either.

Minnesota State (8) @ Concordia-St. Paul
- The Landcows should make short work of Concordia, but they might want to start scoreboard watching. Regional Rankings put them ahead of GVSU for now, but a quick back of the envelope figuring of SOS shows that GVSU's SOS should rise while Mankato's should fall. Coupled with Duluth and Mankato not playing each other this year, its going to be dang hard for Mankato to get the Region's one seed, but a first round bye shouldn't be that hard to get right now.

Indianapolis @ Ferris State
- Pretty much Ferris's last chance to get an in conference win and getting out of the GLIAC's basement.

Washburn (15) @ Nebraska-Omaha
- A UNO win here would really sink Washburn's hopes for the playoffs and could put the Mavs into playoff contention in Region 4. Their two loses are good losses, to Northwest Missouri and to Nebraska-Kearney, both teams that should make the playoffs right now. Playoffs start now in Omaha.

Minnesota-Crookston @ St. Cloud State
- I didn't check, but this should be St. Cloud State's homecoming game.

3:30pm

Minnesota-Duluth (9) @ Northern State
- A good game for Isaac Odim to pad his stats a little to get the attention of Harlin Hill voters.

Agreed....

I think the key for NNU to stop Bell is to keep him off the field, honestly... Obviously we will have to have our ground game carry us to do this efficently... I want Bossuah and Wallace to have 30-35 carries between them... Keep the clock moving as we march down the field... If those two can earn us first downs, Kopach can then pick his spots with the recieving corps... Kopach will get opportunities when WSU puts 8 guys in the box....

On D, I think NMU shouldn't beat around the bush on this and just stack the box from the get-go... You know Bell is coming, so just win the battle in the trenches and get penetration... You have to make first contact behind the line against a runner like Bell... Slow him down and avoid 1 on 1 tackle situations... Bell is going to win his share of those... Also, DO NOT try and go high or just try and knock him down... WRAP HIM UP!!!! No half-assed tackling... Bell will make you pay if you get lazy...

On the flip side, NMU will really have to trust their secondary... They will have to stand tough in a lot of 1 on 1 cover situations... I don't think WSU has anyone that we can't handle in this situation, but they are skilled and can make us pay if we get lazy...

  I was like...Did I miss something! and then I realized it was only against Ferris.

Well, Findlay does go to Allendale next weekend, so even if both the Oilers and Northern win, you would then have your shot at the GLIAC's Shotgun seat. Keep in mind though, Findley, Wayne, and NMU will all have to face GV yet, all in Allendale. If you wanna keep Shotgun, you're going to want them to pick up another loss as well.

  I was like...Did I miss something! and then I realized it was only against Ferris.
Trust me, you would have heard about it by now. There would have been a rant.....:o

Gotcha.

And I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a rant from you on November 1, myself. Plus, it's looking more and more like I'll be there for that game.

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

8 minutes until the biggest football game at NMU in probably 20 years!

Lets go Cats!!!!!

Sounds like a big crowd.

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

1500 people?

Considering that the capacity for football is 8,000, I think anything over 6,000 is a big crowd for NMU.

Despite the score, NMU is dominating early on. 3-0 NMU

Bell hasn't done anything yet.

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

10-0 NMU with about 3 minutes left in the 1st.

NMU hasn't allowed a point at home in 9 straight quarters.

Let the domination continue!!!!

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

We are the best team in the GLIAC!!!!!

DOMINATION!!!

Wallace with a 65 yard TD run!

Wayne State has no clue what has hit them!!!

17-0 NMU!!!

6 minutes left until the half.

SVSU is the only decent team...

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

Wayne State scores with 3 minutes left in the half. 17-7 NMU

This was the first rushing TD that NMU has allowed ALL SEASON and the first points scored by an opponent at the Dome this year.

NMU has a chance to score here before the half and we get the ball to start the 3rd quarter.

LET'S PUT THIS GAME AWAY BOYS!!!

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

TD NORTHERN MICHIGAN!!!!!

8 seconds left before halftime.

Wayne State has NO answer for the most potent offense and defense in the GLIAC.

Bell has Wayne's lone touchdown, but has done very little in way of rushing yards, considering he averages 195 yards rushing per game.

24-7 NMU at the half.

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

And who exactly has GVSU beat this year?

Since they play in the GLIAC, no one. :p

The Lakers haven't lost a GLIAC game since 2004. NMU lost a GLIAC game a little over a month ago. GVSU is the best GLIAC team until proven otherwise.

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

31-7 NMU in the 3rd. One of the few times I've chosen to listen to an NMU football game. The Cats sound like they are playing with a ton of confidence.

I know what you mean. I was at the first game against Northwood and I am still steaming that we allowed them to kick that field goal to beat us in the waining seconds. I really think if we played them again we could crush them.

NMU is for real this year and this GVSU game is shaping up to be the best game of the season. When was the last time GVSU had to play against a team that was ranked in the top 5 nationally in offense AND defense?

Re: The 2009 Division 2 Football thread - Or How I Still HATE Minnesota-Duluth!!

Bell is proving why he is the best player in all of D-2, as he just scores his third TD of the game.

31-20 NMU with 12 minutes left in the 4th.
