Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Stephen Weiss with a hattrick in Florida.

Chicago calls a press conference for tomorrow to announce:

5 year extension for Toews.
5 year extension for Kane.
13 year deal for Keith.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=508402

TSN reports that Kane and Toews will be 5 years 6.3M average (I would assume each), and Keith is 13 years 5.5M average.

Also: Rangers pick up Christiansen from Anaheim via waivers, place Valiquette on waivers. Atlanta puts Noah Welch on waivers

Atlanta puts Noah Welch on waivers

Who? ;)

Not sure what they're going to do with him:

NHL
Zach Bogosian
Tobias Enstrom
Ron Hainsey
Pavel Kubina
Mark Popovic
Anssi Salmela
Christoph Schubert
Boris Valabik

AHL
Arturs Kulda
Scott Lehman
Grant Lewis
Steve McCarthy
Nathan Oystrick
Paul Postma
Mike Vernace
Noah Welch

Chris Chelios (Wolves Signee, PTO)
Jamie Hunt (Wolves Signee)
Brian Sipotz (Wolves Signee, PTO)

ECHL
Chad Denny
Tim Filangieri

Who needs some D-men? I think the Thrashers are willing to deal...

The numbers I've been reading have them $5 million over the cap with 16 players signed, which technically is against the CBA's "tagging rule." (ie: you're not allowed to go over next year's cap with new signings)

Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Toronto trades Jiri Tlusty (and his cock photos) to Carolina for 2009 First Round pick Philippe Paradis.

Isn't it fairly clear that the media is guessing most of the time <del>about everything</del> when it comes to salaries and the salary cap?

Christ almighty, the lower level at the Joe looks like the opening innings at Dodger Stadium tonight.

Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Take a look at the Atlanta game if you want to have fun!

Well, yeah, but we've come to expect that for years, at least since the Braves got 20,000 for the playoffs. It's more unusual for an Original 6 that isn't purposely being driven into the ground like Wirtz.

It's weirder because the seats are sold just... No one sitting there. Maybe it's William Clay Ford's way of making other teams in the city look bad.

Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

It's sad to because Atlanta this year is actually a pretty fun team to watch with their up style tempo they've been playing this season.

John Anderson's style. Been seeing this with the Wolves for the last few years. All they needed were the right players to buy into the "five forwards with the puck, five defensemen without the puck" style.

And the best part, Johnny always could wring a little scoring from his fourth lines. When they hired Johnny, the few ATL only fans were worried how he would get scoring from people not named Kovalchuk.

It's still rough for them to get used to the fact that Kovy may be "third line" on the lineup charts (Johnny usually all his lines as scoring lines; kinda like Detroit tries/tried).

Ahhh, The Bruins. Good to see you again, old friend.

I believe you mean the Providence Bruins. Not sure why they were sent up in the place of an AHL game.

Now that the Habs have spent an entire evening pleasuring themselves, they can go back to being a sub .500 team. talk about role reversal... I ****ing hate hockey some nights. At the least the Celtics showed up tonight. And they played the Spurs last night. What the **** was the Bruins' excuse?

What's the over/under on Kessel scoring a hat trick tonight?

I could think up some excuses:

1. We wanted to play as best we can but we understand the history and lineage of the Canadiens so we thought it would be best if we played subpar and allowed Carey Price to look like an NHL goaltender and us to look like an AHL team in honor of their 100th anniversary.

2. We wanted to hear the commentators moo like a cow a lot. blah blah blah en la MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. We love that.

3. Henri Richard? In the house? Where? Can I get his autograph? I can't find him. WHere did he... they just scored? CRAP!

Going to the Sabres/Rangers game tonight in Buffalo with the First Lady...

she's wearing a putrid Vanek third and I'll be wearing my home Rangers Drury sweater.

We're sitting two rows behind the Rangers bench!

Lets go Blueshirts!

Maybe they wanted to get Jean Beliveau's autograph and forgot how to play hockey?
The funny thing is, for the first period, they played better than they did against Tampa Bay, a game they won handily. I would hope the next time the Toilet Seats come to town, they do what they're doing tonight against Toronto...

Last night was a not an *** kicking

Leadin 7-0 is an *** kicking. The Maple Leafs never got off the ****ing bus.
