Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

If anybody thinks they can put a puck in a net, the Bruins are now taking auditions. Please show up at the West entrance to the arena at 3PM, and remember to bring your own stick and pucks as the team will not be supplying them due to a cost reduction policy put in place by owner Montgomery Burns.

All the more reason to remind folks that Phil Kessel is set to play tomorrow against Tampa Bay.

Also he said today that he enjoyed playing with Savard but doesn't think it will make that much of a difference now.

His linemates to start? Jason Blake and Matthew Stajan a line which Leafs blog Down Goes Brown wants to refer to as "Two Cancers and A Prancer."

I heard Fulton Reed and Dean Portman might be showing up.

I hate that **** Fulton Reed. Coon Rapids would have won that game if it weren't for him being brought in. Plus, we find out in the second one that he is from Stillwater!! How is that District 5?!

Cheating ********.

In more news that should upset Jon:

Phil Kessel will make his Maple Leafs debut against the Lightning on Tuesday.

Hooray. If he hangs out with Savard and Lucic, we can concentrate the bruins offense in the same place.

Just watched "50 years Behind the Mask" on the NHL Network. Great show, especially Kevin Weeks' interview with Johnny Bower.

Was anyone else unbelievably uncomfortable watching the Dryden segment?

Borderline...it's tough to say whether he intentionally went for the head, or if it was just an "Oh Sh**!" moment. I'm inclined to say it looked like the latter. The vic was definitely not paying attention, and it looked like maybe he tried to turn & shield himself at the last second when he saw what was coming.

I don't think the offender flung his elbow, though he may have slightly jumped. He may have taken a couple strides too many. The replay is too fast/low-quality for me to get a good look at his skates.

Regardless of intent, I see the ref issuing a boarding or charging penalty. Beyond that, it's hard to say.

Uh... what he said.

Well, the player was issued a match penalty. Not sure I agree completely with it, but as was said, the quality of video is less than superb. It couldn't have been an easy call either way, that's for sure.

The injured player suffered a fractured skull, broken orbital bone and numerous facial lacerations, and AFAIK is still hospitalized.

I know I wouldn't have expected Fanelli to turn like that. Liambus was coming in awfully hot, but I also think Fanelli put himself in a crappy situation right before the hit. When you are along the boards and a situation like this comes up, just brace yourself and get rocked, don't turn around like that.

Turning around like that is a good way to put yourself in trouble, I'm also going under the assumption that league has the college rule about hitting from behind. I know I've seen it in some college games where players will quickly turn their backs when they know a player is coming to hit them hoping the refs will (wrongly) issue the major and toss the attacking player from the game.

No idea if that's the case here though. Fanelli turning around was definitely the wrong move to make.

Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Evidently this isn't the first incident Liambas has been involved in though.

I don't think its a dirty hit. The Kitchener player turned at the last second. If he didn't turn it would have been a basic check and no one would have remembered it. Its too bad that he got hurt but he put himself in a vulnerable position.

Bruins/Wings tonight. Based off of the Bruins track record of win one/lose one they already have this one wrapped up

Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

I'm shocked...SHOCKED!...that a 20-year old in the OHL with back-to-back 169 PIM seasons and a total of 13 career points would be involved in dirty play.

Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Kessel got demolished by Ohlund. Someone's gotta get a video of this

Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

When did Tim Army and Paul Pooley start coaching the Bruin's power play?

Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Hockey has to be the worst sport to watch when your team is struggling. This is like listening to the PK Ditty while being castrated.

It's hilarious that VS is acting like Osgood has actually accomplished something.

Ozzie with his 50th career shutout.

Not much of a third period from the Bruins though. I was expecting them to lay it on, but now I see why they are struggling.
