The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Bruins are a joke. When are newbie fans of theirs going to start listening to their elders when we say we've seen it all before. Hire new coach, give a bunch of hard working stiffs a chance to play regularly, and they overachieve for a year. B's jack up ticket prices through the roof, sheep like fans line owner Monty Burns' pockets, and early playoff exits are considered 'great success'. Next year team falls back to its talent level, coach gets blamed and fired, ticket prices continue to rise, and sheep like fans line owner's pockets once again.

You want to see signs of a Bruins turn around? It'll start with 1) good use of the draft in consecutive seasons. 2) Top level talent. 3) The coach and GM stop using the phrase "back-checking" in every sentence when describing the most important attribute a player can bring to the team.

Until they get away from the 'lets grind out 1-0 wins all year by playing like New Jersey circa 1995' only without the future Hall of Famers (Brodeur, Stevens) that team had, expect a lot more seasons like this, 37 years and counting, while venerable franchises such as the Ducks, Lightening, and Hurricanes take home the Cup.

This like a post from the PC thread. Only in the Cafe.

The NHLPA tossing out Penny is a good start. That guy is a crook.

While Providence hockey and Bruins hockey are an apt comparison (both essentually hopeless) I'm curious if you think this team has any potential and why? All I see is a bunch of hard working stiffs who can't compete with the better teams in the league if their goalie isn't standing on his head night after night. That's what happens when you have no goal scorers. While I may be out here to amuse on political threads, my hockey knowledge is beyond reproach!!! :D  :D On the subject of the failed franchise that is the Bruins, I know of what I speak (or write, in this case...).

In more news that should upset Jon:

Phil Kessel will make his Maple Leafs debut against the Lightning on Tuesday.

Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

I dont know if this has been announced formally on here or not yet but Marian Gaborik is out of the line-up again tonight for the Rangers against the Wild.

:o another loss coming our way for sure.

Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Pronger Physics in Chicago tonight. Just minutes into the game and Andrew Ladd leads with a shoulder and ends with an elbow to D'agostini.

D'agostini looked liked he couldn't remember he made the flight to ORD.

Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

I haven't been watching much NHL so far this year, so maybe there was an announcement and I missed it: when did they make this new "the Wild are allowed to trip people" rule?

When Mary Ann showed the ***** he is and decided he was too hurt to play in tonight's game.

Same time they made that rule where the Rangers can trip people and they won't call it in certain games throughout the year. I think that also happened when they made that rule where they won't see/call every single thing that happens, causing it to look like they are giving some teams preferential treatment.

Craig Anderson is un-freaking-real this year. Wonder how long he can keep it up.

And in a related story, Canada Press has confirmed that city officials and Leafs management will meet on Wednesday to formulate plans for the first Stanley Cup parade in Toronto since 1967. ;) :p

Hey - we can dream, can't we?? :D

Well, the Canadiens certainly put on some frightful jerseys for Halloween.

That's incredibly sad, when you think of it.

Yeah, but it could be worse. At least I'm not a Blackhawks fan! :p :D

Big hit by Komisarek on Metroplit -- now he's REALLY hated by the Habs fans!!

Leafs should have worn this sweater from back in the day:

How bad are the Wild this year? We lost a fight to Sidney Crosby.

Oddly enough, the Wild did win the game (for a change)...

Has it been long enough for Peter Budaj to realize that his dream of being a #1 goaltender in the NHL is over? Is it long enough for Peter to get a phone call from David Aebischer stating that "he knows the feeling?" That's ok, the Hawks will spend big bucks on Budaj when his contract is up with Colorado. After all, he's IDENTICAL to Huet.

I hate the Avs, but I'm impressed with Anderson. The guy can play.

Zidlicky is a pu##y. Then again, if you can't go to a Wild game for a good hockey game, at least viewers here got a good laugh.

Just watched "50 years Behind the Mask" on the NHL Network. Great show, especially Kevin Weeks' interview with Johnny Bower.
