Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Anyone have the package and want to call them on that? I'd be curious to see what they say.

The satellite and cable companies won't have an answer, and good luck trying to get anything out of the NHL.

I actually asked Bettman about that last season when I called him on his XM radio show. He gave a typical "sidestep" answer about satellite issues, constantly working to improve the package, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah.

Amazing how they can put the HNIC HD feed on the NHL net, and feed all of those HD signals to the "war room" in Toronto. But somehow, the rest of HD feeds from north of the 49th are a problem????

Well, you answered it already if you talked to Betteman. Betteman's a fantastic executive who cares mostly about the fans, the people that pay his salary.

Seth Helgeson of the Gophers pushed a linesman out of the way last Saturday. But it was under completely different circumstances and the guy didn't fall down. No call was made.

I really hope he doesn't get a suspension just for the sake of the league. I think it was clearly not meant as a violent act and the linesman made it look waaaay worse then it was.

He purposefully pushed the linesman out of the way. Both fighters were gassed, barely doing anything, there were two linesmen going in to stop the fight, and Orr pushed one who lost his balance (I'm assuming the linesman had no belief that he'd get pushed when he went to break up the fight like they do all the time). I'm guessing he gets a couple games at least.

I agree that he will get a couple of games but I think its just more so the NHL doesn't blasted for a player pushing an official. Versus pointed out that contact to an official warrants a 10-game suspension.

I really believe that he stuck his arm out to say "I still wanna go" but he accidentally pushed him over. There is really no reason why he would even want to knock the linesman over.

The goaltender interference call on Powe in the Caps-Flyers game was really stupid. If a guy is going towards the net to tip a shot in and the goalie is 3 feet in front of the crease and gets hit, it is not goaltender interference. He clearly had enough room to stop before he hit the crease. The forwards have to have a chance at playing the puck outside of the crease.

The linesman clearly dove to get a suspension...

Three things:

1.) Gotta love awarded goals.

2.) Wojtek Wolski is kind of fast.

3.) Wasn't Colorado supposed to be awful?

I lied, four things:

4.) Luongo's worst enemy is Alexander Edler.

Just got this emailed to me from a friend of mine in Ontario. Sorry if it's been posted before.
TORONTO, ONTARIO (CP) -
A seven-year-old Toronto, Ontario boy was at the center of a Toronto city courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents & the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child custody law & regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the degree possible. The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents & he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy alleged they had also beat him. After considering the remainder of the immediate family & learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him. After two recesses to check legal references & confer with child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the Toronto Maple Leafs, whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone.

That, and Taylor Chorney is kinda slow...And probably shouldn't be playing 5-on-4 with an empty net...Thanks Jarome Iginla, Swine Flu, moronic management, etc

Craig Anderson has basically become the hope of the Colorado franchise. It'll be interesting to see if he can keep this up.

Given the fact that he's won more games in October than any other Avalanche goaltender, even that one guy, I have a feeling that it probably won't last much longer

Yawn! We were telling that one back in the days of the bad Leafs teams in the Ballard era! :D :p
