The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Legal hit but completely unnecessary. I also wouldn't say that Booth was admiring his pass, Richards blindsided him.

He led with the shoulder, yes, but right at his head. From a bad angle to boot. Booth turns his head back and has it up, but he still doesn't see that coming.

I don't like it at all. There is no reason to slam your shoulder into some guy's ear like that. No reason whatsoever.

I agree with what both of you said but something that I feel is never recognized in these situations is the speed of the game. When skating fast there isn't a lot of time to think of everything that we just posted. He mos likely saw Booth coming across the middle and tried to hit him as hard as he could. If Richards actually wanted to him dirty he easily could have lifted his elbow up. I think it sucks what happened but I feel that it was clean.

My argument here is that if he wants to hit him and blow him up, he could've hit him in the body. It's clear that Booth never was going to see him and rather than hit him shoulder to shoulder or shoulder to body, he went for the head. That's where my problem with the play comes in.

Just another example of why the NHL needs to get rid of the football shoulder pads and go back to the softer shoulder and elbow pads.

Don Cherry wants to see that. Grapes outdid himself with the suit on Saturday. The head gear is from the Glengarry Light Infantry Regiment.

Looks like Ron is trying not to crack up sitting next to him.

It was a cleaner hit than 90% of Ovechkin's, but no one seems to complain about those. In hockey, you finish your hits...otherwise you end up in the ECHL, or DEL like 90% of college kids who don't hit.

He had time to not go after his head is all I am saying. I don't buy the "game is so fast" argument in this case. He can hit Booth as hard as he wants to, he was set up perfectly. But to launch his shoulder directly at his ear was just pointless and stupid.

Bingo.

The fan question on last night's Sharks-Flyers game on CSNCA-

"Are you happy that Pronger is now in the Eastern Conference?"

The only Shark fan that should respond to that in the negative after the last 4 years is a masochist.

Gaborik limped to the lockerroom in the 3rd period after a 2 goal game. Hopefully the groin didn't fall off again.

Rich Hammond with the LA Kings says that the 2010 NHL Draft is likely going to be held in Los Angeles.

Hang onto your hats folks, Toronto actually has a one-goal lead over Anaheim. Not that it means anything. ;)

Cmon - don't dash my hopes with 20 minutes left! ;)

I'm po-ed that there's no Leafs feed on the Center Ice package. I guess all that advertising about being able to watch BOTH teams' feeds is a bunch of BS if you are a fan of a Canadian team.

See your favorite team wherever they're playing

Whether you're rooting for local heroes or faraway champs, the only way to follow your NHL teams throughout the season is with NHL® Center Ice®.
You'll get:

* Up to 40 exciting games a week and select playoff games
* Many games in blazing HD*
* Dual feeds: Choose from either the home or away broadcasts
* The NHL Network at no extra cost: 24-hour NHL coverage, including live games, highlight shows, hockey news, exclusive programs and more. Available in both SD and HD.

Any lawyers out there interested in handling a class-action suit against Buttman on behalf of frustrated fans??

Gotta agree with the Ducks analyst -- brutal slashing call!

But we'll take the PP goal and the penalty on Niedermayer!

Hiller looks like Toskola!

Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Ducks-Leafs game is blacked out here because San Diego is considered Anaheim's local area. Even though the Ducks refuse to show games here and only the Kings do.
