They send their coach instead.
Not so sure about that.Despite the loss, the U.S. established themselves as one of the elite teams in the tourney.
I read that if they lose to Canada, they can still beat Slovakia and get into the medal round. Not so sure about that.
With a likely loss to Canada and then a probable crossover game with the #2 seed in the elimination round, USA's chances of medalling are almost certainly gone.
No shame in losing to Russia at home, but the way the brackets were set up, the US needed to steal this game at all costs.

Nice try with that one... there was all sorts of traffic in front of him. BTW, if everyone on team USA played with as much heart as Rocco, you would have seen a different outcome today.
Love the way Grimaldi plays the game.
Nischuken has been all over the ice for Russia in this period. He's going to make somebody happy come draft day.
If only a Yale player was ever talented enough to choke on such a big stage.
Makarov is a stud for the Russians at the WJC. Saves their bacon last year against the Canucks, is the only reason they were in the Gold Medal Game with the Swedes and was the reason they won this game.
Really? Head down when he has the puck trying to do it all himself? He plays like a 6th man in the nba....trying to put lots of points up against the depth players....at world juniors, not so big a drop off.
He's fun to watch, but he won't have a career at next level unless he learns the team game. He plays the game hard, but not smart.
Why so defensive in your post and need to go into attack mode? How is Yale and their players relevant?
Get a grip Dirty and let"s keep it on the up and up.
Go USA!!
Chris Peters at United States of Hockey said:It was a very up-and-down game for Grimaldi. He showed great hustle throughout, but like Miller, was making some really questionable decisions with the puck. His shot selection was a bit off too. The backchecking has been solid, which is encouraging, but the U.S. could use more out of Grimaldi offensively with his speed and skill.
Like to see Vesey instead of Biggs (too penalty prone and big sheet does not suit his game), but other than that, today's start was hopefully a sign of things to come

Let's look at an unbiased opinion.
Giving an unbiased assessment of the team, the bracket, the standings or the situation is not being defeatist. Nor is complimenting the opponents.Good thing the players do not have the defeatist attitudes some of these experts in their own mind have. This team will give Canada a game.
IIHF has a good app for the iPhone
No, he plays for UND...so he was great!!!
