Team USA--WJC

Re: Team USA--WJC

Well the chances were there, it was anybody's game. Both goalies were terrific. Despite the loss, the U.S. established themselves as one of the elite teams in the tourney.

Not so sure about that.

With a likely loss to Canada and then a probable crossover game with the #2 seed in the elimination round, USA's chances of medalling are almost certainly gone.

No shame in losing to Russia at home, but the way the brackets were set up, the US needed to steal this game at all costs.

I read that if they lose to Canada, they can still beat Slovakia and get into the medal round.

Nice try with that one... there was all sorts of traffic in front of him. BTW, if everyone on team USA played with as much heart as Rocco, you would have seen a different outcome today.

He must be another hater. Rocco plays every shift like its his last. What I can't figure out is why Housley didn't call timeout after Russia got a penalty with just a little less than 2 minutes left in the game. Not smart.

Re: Team USA--WJC

Good thing the players do not have the defeatist attitudes some of these experts in their own mind have. This team will give Canada a game.

Love the way Grimaldi plays the game.

Nischuken has been all over the ice for Russia in this period. He's going to make somebody happy come draft day.

Really? Head down when he has the puck trying to do it all himself? He plays like a 6th man in the nba....trying to put lots of points up against the depth players....at world juniors, not so big a drop off.

He's fun to watch, but he won't have a career at next level unless he learns the team game. He plays the game hard, but not smart.

Hey Seth jones. Stop playing soft and take the body. No excuse for that 2nd Russian goal. Jones should have pulverized that Russian player instead of letting him waltz into the danger area like a ballerina.

If only a Yale player was ever talented enough to choke on such a big stage.

Makarov is a stud for the Russians at the WJC. Saves their bacon last year against the Canucks, is the only reason they were in the Gold Medal Game with the Swedes and was the reason they won this game.

Why so defensive in your post and need to go into attack mode? How is Yale and their players relevant?

Get a grip Dirty and let"s keep it on the up and up.

Go USA!!

Hmm...we must have watched different games.

I was responding to the snide comment about Grimaldi. I would have thought you would have picked up on that, but I obviously overestimated what you are capable of. Sorry for that.

Re: Team USA--WJC

Let's look at an unbiased opinion.

Chris Peters at United States of Hockey said:
It was a very up-and-down game for Grimaldi. He showed great hustle throughout, but like Miller, was making some really questionable decisions with the puck. His shot selection was a bit off too. The backchecking has been solid, which is encouraging, but the U.S. could use more out of Grimaldi offensively with his speed and skill.

Re: Team USA--WJC

Like to see Vesey instead of Biggs (too penalty prone and big sheet does not suit his game), but other than that, today's start was hopefully a sign of things to come

Agree on Vesey in this type of skill game. I expect the Canada game might be more physical and Biggs could be a factor. Overall a good game to watch and tough for the USA team to play well and not grab a point or two. Definitely in a hole now with Canada and a decent Slovakia team still to play. Some of the forwards need to step up and lead the way. There's no shortage of talent with Johnny G, Rocco, Galchenuk, Miller etc. It's a short tournament and no time to adjust to the pace. A win over strong Canada team would set them up well in medal round.

Crossing over to play the #2 in the other pool isn't a daunting task IMO. Sure, might not win the game, but it will be a winnable one.

No, he plays for UND...so he was great!!!

Re: Team USA--WJC

Grimaldi didn't play great. The whole line of Grimaldi-Miller-Gaudreau didn't. They need to start produce points and play better if the US is going to medal. They have a combined two points so far and that's certainly not going to do it. But Yale boy was just being a dink to be a dink and ripping on Grimaldi for no reason.

Giving an unbiased assessment of the team, the bracket, the standings or the situation is not being defeatist. Nor is complimenting the opponents.

And as far as the players are concerned, they fly half way around the world and represent the USA proudly win or lose.

Don't think anyone said Grimaldi played great. I was simply posting in response to the idea that Grimaldi is not a team player. He usually looks to set people up before taking a shot and has already busted his butt in making diving back checks twice this tourney to prevent solid scoring chances.
