Take a Stand Against Sexual Assault: Resist the TSA

Re: Take a Stand Against Sexual Assault: Resist the TSA

In the abstract, no problem whatsoever. There would be a huge expense in recruiting, training and paying the profilers. And you can take it to the bank that our unionizing Barney Fifes of TSA would be on NBC and CBS every night, whining about losing their jobs. There would be huge resistance from CAIR and similar groups and THAT would be on CBS and NBC night after night. Plus the "Reverands" would also be on CBS and NBC every night, leading marches and demonstrations to show solidarity with their Muslim "brothers." You can also take it to the bank that any interaction between a Muslim passenger and TSA that could possibly be construed as "racial profiling" would ALSO be grist for the mill on the networks. And Democrats in the House and Senate would fight this every step of the way. Other than that, no problem with the transition. IMO, a full-on Israeli approach would be impossible to implement here, for the reasons I mentioned, and others.Just look at the earlier responses from liberal posters on this thread, squealing like middle school girls at a haunted house at the mere mention of ANY kind of profiling. Then multiply those responses by infinity.

As to trusted flyer, I'd imagine that we could create a federal/state/local protocol that would clearly identify citizens who could be trusted to fly, with some sort of bio-metric identification provided before boarding. Iris scan, thumb scan, something. This stuff is way above my pay grade, of course, but I'm confident we could do it.

So, pat downs are so horrible, but giving your fingerprint, personal information to the government for this program is ok?

Re: Take a Stand Against Sexual Assault: Resist the TSA

You have the right to partake in interstate travel and you have the right to be secure in your person from unreasonable searches and seizures.
As to the first:

Now you can argue that the right to travel only covers movement by foot and not car, train, plane, or ship, but I really doubt that would hold up.

The key under both the right to travel and the 4th amendment is reasonableness. Equal protection and due process don't come into play at all. I don't think they're reasonable. You might think otherwise, but there's a big jump from metal detectors to gropings.
Thank you. That is really helpful.

I do have a question being not the legalese type. At the time that was written weren't most people traveling by private conveyance? If you travel by anything that you own do they search you before you fly (I really don't have the answer to this)? I know it seems like spitting hairs but I can't grasp that the law would require someone to fly you somewhere in what they thought was an unsafe manner to preserve your rights while usurping theirs for safety. (I know folks don't believe this stuff protects safety but let's assume there is a measure you would agree on.) No one is preventing you from traveling and impairing your rights as an individual. The rules are for a service you bought to exercise that right.

I would argue that the last passage by UNOfan creates the premise that each state, under the union should have open boarders for travel. Establishing no boarder crossings, passports, and free entry into each state.

It's still important to note that the TSA is a government agency (and airports opting out of the use of the TSA are still working under federal regulations), so at this point we aren't talking about what any of the airlines themselves would or would not do. We're talking about what the government is doing.

Correct, though one could easily argue the TSA has created a de facto border crossing at all airports.

Shut up, he explained. Warm up to the concept of VOLUNTARY. You libs are making less and less sense as this discussion continues. I would have thought that all of you so anxious to have Uncle Sam fondling your jewels wouldn't mind volunteering some personal information. I guess I was wrong.

No, if you own your own plane or are leaving from a private business (such as NetJets) you don't have to go through security. It's up to the owner/operator and pilot in command of the aircraft who they allow on board.

And how do you know where my political views lay? If you must really know, I have my own beliefs, and thats it. Im not loyal to Dems, Republicans, or whatever dumb party is out there, if you must know.

If you're a "lib" that's all he needs to know. He's a "con" ... and that's all you need to know. ;)

Bully. Stop making liberal arguments, then. And stop changing the subject. You, incorrectly, asserted that being fondled against your will by the TSA was the same as voluntarily providing information that would qualify you for a trusted flyer program. In your strenuous efforts to prove me wrong, you exposed yourself as being one or two cards short of a full deck.

Haven't you been following this thread? Only OP is allowed to take snarky cheap shots. He's also the only one who is allowed to call people names. Anyone who posts anything that might be offensive to him is a child but when he calls someone a name that's great discourse.

Re: Take a Stand Against Sexual Assault: Resist the TSA

You're jumping ahead. The correct sequence is:

1. "Jerk."

2. "Typical."

3. eye roll

My bad. Besides, not all libs are created equal: There are libs, g.d. libs, m. effing libs, pinkos and commies (with new categories emerging periodically). And finding the precise category requires constant attention.

Commies? Like our Ally in North Korea?

You forgot surrender monkey libs. Unless that is a blanket category. ;)

Re: Take a Stand Against Sexual Assault: Resist the TSA

Just want to let you all know- we traveled twice by plane this past weekend. Neither time were we forced to be scanned or be patted down.

Even saw the scanner in Fort Lauderdale- nobody was going in it.

Seems like a lot of huballo about nothing.
