Stump the USCHO Movie Buff(Part III)

Re: Stump the USCHO Movie Buff(Part III)

I know this one!!! Bridget Jones' Diary! Said by the darling Mark Darcy played by Colin Firth (who, of course, was Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, and who was the inspiration for the character of Mark Darcy when Helen Fielding started writing the Bridget series).

Quote:

Strong female character: I am a gay lesbian woman! I do not mythologize the male sexual organ!

OK the most I can get out of Jen on this one is that Kathy Bates (Unsinkable Molly Brown from Titanic) spoke this line in a movie in the 1990's. I don't know it and have no clue of the movie-Hint?

Once again, Jen's the inspiration. Kathy Bates in "Primary Colors." She gets half credit, for sure. I'll have one in a minute.

It can be very interesting here-often times we seem to answer each other in old movie lines or lines from old TV shows. So it was Kathy Bates-I had no clue even though I had seen that movie at least once

This should be no problem for either one of you:

I don't want to send you.
I've been working hard. I need the change.
You won't come back.
I've just discovered something about you.
What?
You're a worrier.

Guess but pretty sure this is right-13 Rue Madeleine? With James Cagney and in a smaller role one of our favorites-Sam Jaffe. Give me some time and i will come up with another

Re: Stump the USCHO Movie Buff(Part III)

Actor 1: "Oh, how do we find your tent?"
Actor 2: "Scholar, if any man in my army can't tell you where my tent is, our poetic young bowman can use him as a target."

Hopefully will not have to supply a hint for this one!

Well, hope springs eternal, but I'm not getting a vibe at all from this one. How 'bout a little help?

Re: Stump the USCHO Movie Buff(Part III)

not really a movie quote trivia question, but a question I got right in bar trivia the other night. The funny thing is I got it right, but was thinking of the wrong movie..

Who is the only actor to get nominated for best actor for a role where he played someone who was also nominated for best actor?

Re: Stump the USCHO Movie Buff(Part III)

No tingle. Are you talking about Jack Hawkins?

Yes indeed-Hawkins was in many of my favorites-Bridge on the River Kwai, Land of the Pharaohs(lovely Joan Collins in that one), Ben-Hur just to name 3. In the quoted movie he plays the sidekick to the adventurer and is very handy with the long bow.

I don't remember the details, but I know he had cancer of the throat and was able to continue working for a time with a voice that was only similar to his original voice. IIRC, it was the cancer that killed him. Anyway, Jack Hawkins in what I'm assuming was not one of his most splendid performances or at least not a splendid film. Hmmmm. Let me work on that one.

How about Orson Welles as a character supposedly representing Genghis Khan? I warned you this one would be a tough one. Be happy I did not quote one of the grade Z stinko space movies from the 60's that TCM played today(and we watched intently). They did however play the Thing(James Arness) and the Time Machine(Rod Taylor) so it wasnt a total loss.

Thanks. I think the implicit understanding here is that we quote from films that more than the cast and crew have seen. Orson Welles (with whom I share a very minor connection--we went to the same summer camp--although not at the same time :) ) AND Jack Hawkins eh? That's something to ponder. Let me get started pondering.

How about I add that also in this great flick was Michael Rennie, Finlay Currie, Herbert Lom, Robert Blake, and Laurence Harvey. You must admit that is one heck of a cast. And the quote is spoken by Orson Welles.

I have no memory of ever seeing this Tyrone Power epic, but I'm thinking your quote may have come from "The Black Rose." It was a little ahead of my time, so I wouldn't have seen it in a theatre and I have no memory of ever seeing it on TV or cable. You very rarely hear or see references to it. My guess is it didn't do that well at the box office.

They play it fairly frequently on Turner Classic Movies-I first saw it as a kid on a rerelease in the movies and was fascinated by it. If you haven't seen it, try and catch it when it is on TV. You will not be disappointed. Your turn!!

I'll watch for it. Meanwhile here's one that most normal people would find a little difficult. I'm guessing you and Wonder-Jenny will get it instantly.
