Stump the USCHO Movie Buff(Part III)

Re: Stump the USCHO Movie Buff(Part III)

Lawrence Olivier interviewing Dr. Mengele's nurse (who for some reason still had a bad attitude) in "Boys From Brazil." One of my favorites. Cut! Cut!

Back in a minute. Here you go:

"Forgive your enemies, but first get even."

Blood on the Sun(James Cagney not as a bad guy gangster but a newspaper reporter in Japan)

This one is going to be tough-

"You're nothing but a freak of life! And, a freak of death!"

"Blood on the Sun" is another one of those Hollywood productions from back in the day where all of the Japanese characters are played by white guys. One "Japanese" character is played by Marvin Miller, who some may recall as the dude who passed out the big checks on "The Millionaire" TV show. BTW, no oriental actor has ever portrayed Charlie Chan. Huh?

As to this quote, I'm getting a 50's sci-fi vibe, but can't place it. How 'bout some help?

Re: Stump the USCHO Movie Buff(Part III)

Hint: admittedly not a great hint-movie was actually shot in 1959 but not released until a few years later. I suspect they knew how bad it was. It was in B & W but they had thought about shooting the last reel in color for effect. You are correct about the genre-even when I was younger i thought this one was a grade Z stinko.:)

I thought I was the only one who would remember Marvin Miller working for John Beresford Tipton at the Silverstone Estate (featured on the Millionaire)

The Brain that Wouldn't Die

"My name? If you knew that, you'd be as clever as me."

How could anyone know that one I posted? it was a horribly bad movie that I saw in 1962. It also went by the title the Head That Would Not Die and starred nobody of any note. it is so bad that even TCM doesn't play it when they have their shlock horror marathons. I put it in the class of Plan 9 From Outer Space (but not quite as campy). :p

It's time to give us a hint. :)

Jenny says she remembers who said it but has no clue what the movie was-she only saw part of the movie. She thinks it was the fellow who is now playing James Bond(Daniel Craig). Who BTW makes a pretty good Bond(but no one can ever come close to the portrayal by Sean Connery).

Re: Stump the USCHO Movie Buff(Part III)

Was it heavy into drugs? I have no clue but Jenny keeps thinking about it-but cant come up with any title

"Layer Cake," with half credit to Jenny.

And now, for something completely different:

"Nothing could have prepared us for the final horror: Cleveland!"

Noises Off (Michael Caine has the line)

"Promise me one thing...Don't take me home until I'm drunk...very drunk indeed."

"Noises Off" is one of my favorites. That whole scene involving the line "what's that dad" is hilarious.

Our quote is from Holly Golightly in "Breakfast at Tiffany's." I'm loath to admit I've never really warmed up to this film. It's one that everyone except me, evidently, thinks is an all time great. I'll defer to their judgement.

Okay, here's one:

"You're short on ears and long on mouth!"

Big Jake (Jen was stumped-she is not a John Wayne fan) but this was one in my ballpark

Actor: "He's never tired . . .he's never miserable!"
Actress: "Well, he's young."
Actor: "When I was young I was tired and miserable"
(I must admit to watching this one lots of time)

Paul Dooley in "Breaking Away." Everytime I think of him or the film I remember the scene where's he's been hospitalized because his son gave a used car customer a refund. He's in the bed, waving his arms and legs wildly, screaming "refund!," "refund!" Too funny for words. You knew how it was going to end in the Little 500, but it didn't matter.

Try this:

"The idea of committing suicide never crossed my mind except when I took this cigar."

The Spirit of St Louis (Jimmy Stewart line)

This one will test even the best-

"To a new world of gods and monsters!"

And you are right- Paul Dooley absolutely steals Breaking Away with lines that have you rolling.

Oh I don't know. Dr. Pretorius in "Bride of Frankenstein," toasting the good doctor. Gave rise to the movie of the same name where Ian McKellan played the director of the flick James Whale (who also directed "Frankenstein.") Among other things, "Gods and Monsters" is also noteworthy because it's the only time in his career anyone has caught Brendan Fraser actually acting!

The "bride" was played by Elsa Lanchester, one of the great quirky actresses of all time and married to that big queen Charles Laughton. The two appeared together in "Witness for the Prosecution" and were absolutely electric in the scenes they shared. "Miss Plimsoll, if you were a woman I would strike you." "Very well, give her three weeks salary and throw her down the stairs."

Anyway, try this:

"On the fourth floor - in the broom closet - a bulb has been burning for several days. Find the man responsible, dock his pay."

The Big Clock -I figured you would come up with a Charles Laughton quote after my Bride of Frankenstein one (Elsa and Charles did make a pretty original odd couple)

"I realize that when I met you at the turkey curry buffet, I was unforgivably rude, and wearing a reindeer jumper"

I know this one!!! Bridget Jones' Diary! Said by the darling Mark Darcy played by Colin Firth (who, of course, was Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, and who was the inspiration for the character of Mark Darcy when Helen Fielding started writing the Bridget series).

Quote:

Strong female character: I am a gay lesbian woman! I do not mythologize the male sexual organ!

Glad I could post one for you(ewe)! I try to pick some from each decade but I am really weak on ones after the 90's. Your quote I have to think about-Jenny knows it already but won't tell me.

"The Big Clock" is a particular favorite of mine with Charles and Elsa, of course, and Harry Morgan playing a particularly thuggish dude and the great George MacReady (who lasted long enough to play Secretary of State Cordell Hull in "Tora, Tora, Tora").
