Stump the USCHO Movie Buff(Part III)

Re: Stump the USCHO Movie Buff(Part III)

I'll watch for it. Meanwhile here's one that most normal people would find a little difficult. I'm guessing you and Wonder-Jenny will get it instantly.

"Don't tell me you can't make speeches; you could talk a coyote out of a chicken."

This one sounds incredibly familiar-I know we saw it at some time. Nothing coming to me-will have to check with wonder Jen when she gets back in. For some reason this does not sound like one of the real oldies(30's or 40's).

Definitely more recent than that. But stars two of the biggest names ever. And it may be the only time they appeared in the same film, but I'm just going off the top of my head on that one.

OK-officially stumped here-but Jen says she thinks it was either a Jimmy Stewart line or a Henry Fonda line. Neither of us have this one in the memory bank. Try another hint?

Jen's right, it was Fonda. He played an authority figure who wasn't as "straight" as he should have been.

OK-since Henry was only in about 200 movies that narrows it down for us. Just got home from late dinner and far too inebriated to think clearly-hope by morning to be able to come up with a reasonable guess. :)

Remember, more recent than the 30's and 40's and he co-stars with someone of equal importance in the grand scheme of things. Please read the preceeding clue carefully, all will be revealed.:D

Re: Stump the USCHO Movie Buff(Part III)

Finally I got the 'Straight' clue-very devious of you-There was a Crooked man. This one has us really going-just could ot remember Fonda in a role with anothe big star-then we hit on Kirk Douglas. Odd the way we thought of him-we are heading up into the adirondacks soon and will be stopping in Amsterdam NY(his home town) and that was the reminder.
Will come up with one soon:)

"The tension in the air was so thick you could cut it with a knife, which was more than I could say for the liver"
(From a wonderful little comedy)

I'm getting a definite whiff of Neil Simon here. BTW, I found out the other day that Doc Simon spent a year at DU right after the war. I'll say "Brighton Beach Memoirs." I liked "Biloxi Blues" better, though. Christopher Walken had lots of great lines as the nutty sergeant:

"You'd need three promotions to be an a-hole."

"In the past 21 days you boys have made some fine progress. You're not fighting soldiers yet, but I'd match you up against some Nazi cocktail waitresses anytime."

Anyway, try this easy one:

"Are you completely p****-whipped? Why don't you just take your b***s out of your wifes purse... make a stand for one time in your life."

it is pretty sad that this thread which was fun for awhile has come down to two people trying to stump eachother on outdated, movies that the majority of us have never heard of.

Both of those movies are hilarious-Merwyn Toomey does indeed steal the Biloxi Blues movie. His long speech to Epstein upon his arrival at Biloxi basic training about where to relieve himself is a quote i would have loved to use here.
Your quote is from Bruce dern in the 'Burbs(an early Tom Hanks movie). Give me a few minutes to come up with a new one.

Re: Stump the USCHO Movie Buff(Part III)

This one should be required watching for any movie buff-

Actress: "Anyway, David, when they find out who we are they'll let us out."
Actor: "When they find out who you are they'll pad the cell."

Bringing Up Baby

"Hate to mess with your groove, New York, but we're about two years ahead of you on the Coast. We already graduated from "what's been going on" to "where it's gone"."

SB: Thanks for the hint-I had no clue-now I still have no clue but that phrase has something to do with the Beatles-are we talking about a film from that era?
It's a recent film that features the music of the Beatles. The movie also stars Evan Rachel Wood...

Bull Durham (love that flick and there are a ton of quotes to use from it)

"The next time I have a daughter, I hope it's a boy"
