Difficulty in moving the puck out of the defensive end into the offensive end isn't necessarily a reflection of their defensive shape/coverage, how well they get into passing lanes/block shots, or how well they pressure the puck carrier. UND did all 3 of those things tonight better than any team MN has played this year.
I'd add that I also don't think they were bad in breaking out, gaining the offensive zone or maintaining pressure once there. Certainly not up to the standards of Sioux teams in the past, but far from bad.
UND didn't generate many shots, but they did generate a fair number of quality opportunities, and in terms of territorial advantage they didn't trail all that much behind MN tonight.
EDIT: well, the first period they trailed significantly in terms of territory. But that evened out through the second and third.
Disagree. Part of the reason for the shot differential was UND's inability to break the puck out and bad giveaways in the defensive zone.
