Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

The Don gets his first regular season home sweep vs the Sioux!! Nice..

I was at Fridays game, couldn't make it last night. Wish I had tho..

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Gee, it would be so terrible if opposing fans didn't like something that Rocco or any other Sioux player did. :(

I don't have a dog in the fight. I wouldn't like it if one of my team's players did that either.

The only surefire way to keep Rau from celebrating is to keep Rau from scoring. If you can't keep him from scoring let him celebrate all he wants-it's part of what makes rivalries good. Same for team celebrating after the win. Take it as a show of respect and don't let it happen again.

I thought is was great timing to have the fourth line out there around the seven minute mark. I commented to my wife how the players on the ice just look pooped out and don't have the legs tonight and then boom that line came out and out hustled the men in black to every puck and it was evident they had an advantage on the ice. I was not surprised one bit when they scored, I expected at least a great chance on a goal during that shift. Props to Lucia for playing them especially during that stage of the game. That line brought the energy all weekend!

Well said. I don't remember if it was said here or on GPL, but I believe Hammy said the look on the faces of the Sioux skaters was as if they had just lost the national title game. Both teams had a lot of emotion invested in this weekend's games. It was a huge series and I don't fault the players on either side.

So if a BC player drops to a knee and thanks God after scoring a TD, you'd have a problem with it?

I highly doubt the kid did it to mock Tebow...he's a devout Christian, like Tebow.

No one should have a problem with any celebrations that either team did last night. If anything, the reactions of both teams should go to show both administrations they need to try and keep this rivalry alive after the Big Ten and NCHC form.

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Who cares what Rocco does after he scores a goal. Like Burd said. If it bothers a team, then stop him from scoring in the first place.

As long as my team is scoring, I don't care how the celebrate as long as it doesn't penalize or effect the team. As Hammy said, players should be excited after scoring and taking a knee and praying is hardly offensive.

How many football players do it after each TD they score? I know Denard Span and more that a few other players do the sign of the cross, point to the sky, or kiss their crucifix before every at bat.

If anything was weird, it was Rocco's Twitter rant. But if it bothers people, they should just unfollow him.

The Mariucci Classic would be a good meeting spot ;)

HECK NO - You NEED 2 games between the teams at a min. not just the off chance of maybe meeting in the Championship game to keep this love fest alive.

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

You won't get two games a season against them. MN is insistent that it gets 20 home games per year, which only leaves four nonconference games on the road. They will not tie up half those games every other year with UND. No way.

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

According to Roman, we won't be able to play them at all unless their name changes.

And listening to tDon's comments, if we do play them it won't be on an annual basis.

I didn't say he was mocking Tebow. I said it was a Tebow impersonation. Anyway, who the hell are you to say "nobody should have a problem with it"? Opinions vary. Nobody is "right" here.

Other than Grimaldi, I've never seen any other hockey player do it. If he does it after every goal it's just obnoxious IMO. If you disagree and enjoy him calling attention to himself in that manner...so be it. I won't argue with you.

never said I enjoyed it. It just doesn't bother me.

Shouldn't god be on the banned list for sports? It's obviously a performance enhancer.

It's like scoring a goal and thanking your steroid dealer for supplying you, because without it you wouldn't of been able to perform at that level.

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

A couple thoughts about the weekend. Two really good, exciting, tough fought games by both teams. Weekend MVP was Dell, no question. Kept it close both nights, giving the Sioux a chance to pull it out on Saturday. Close second to Patterson. A couple of huge saves at critical times both nights as well.

As late as Saturday at Blarney's prior to the game, I figured Rau was going to run away with Rookie of the Year. He may still be in the lead, but it looks like Grimaldi's definitely going to make it a race.

The Sioux definitely look to be dangerous if they get their scoring touch back a bit. With Dell playing as solid as he did both nights this week, they're definitely good in goal, and the way the PK shut down the Gopher's PP, it looks like they mostly have the defense in line generally.

For the Gophers, they got outplayed a good portion of the game on Saturday, but fought back for the win. Patterson is still looking great in net, two goals allowed on the weekend, one the breakaway by Grimaldi (wow can that kid move) the other he was screened on and never saw the shot, from what I could tell. There were a couple defensive breakdowns that I saw, but even those are getting fewer as the year progresses, which is exactly what should happen.

If both teams keep playing the way they are right now, the January series should be very interesting.
